Use a drill/driver that's what it's for, impacts are not meant for fasteners like that. Anyone using a impact driver for these big fasteners should not be building anything, they obviously do not know what they are doing.

You are lapping your felt the wrong direction. You start at bottom and work you way up. If water gets under shingle or will run down felt and under next piece of felt that's why you lap the other direction. If you didn't staple bottom and then ran next piece and lifted the upper piece so that it overlaps lower piece. You should be able to run felt and the building be dried in.
