What a horrible joke. It’s ridiculous watching two people, who aren’t Black droning on about “Black Economic Empowerment”. At least one of these people believes “Black is a label invented by Europeans”. It looks like an SNL skit, but sadly it’s not. Was this firm really unable to find at least one Black attorney to advise on issues of Black Economic Empowerment? And if this is so, could they have at least not placed someone who is, from my experiences interacting with her, virulently anti-Black? The very act of bypassing Black candidates for these two is, very obviously, the exact opposite of Black Economic Empowerment. To be clear, being born in an African country doesn’t make you ethnically African or Black. Having a Black ancestor or even having Black family members doesn’t change your ethnicity from South Asian to Black or qualify you to speak on Black issues. Being anti-Black, not even respecting the classification of Black, blurring or diminishing that classification for your own benefit, is unethical and SHOULD disqualify you from any leadership or advisory role involving matters of Black Economic Empowerment. This my personal opinion, but anyone with even a minimally functional brain should be able to see how ridiculously disingenuous this is, to the point of being maliciously unethical.

My personal opinion of Verushca Pillay is that she’s a snake-in-the-grass who doesn’t accept Black as a racial classification, I’ll quote her directly; “Black is a label invented by Europeans”. She is African by nationality by virtue of the fact she was born in South Africa, during apartheid I might add. It seems that except for the purposes of employment opportunities and financial gain, she does not identify as Black, ethnically or culturally. From my personal experience, she’s quick to use white supremacist buzz phrases/talking points and is in fact, anti-Black. How then, is it in anyway ethical for her to position herself as a spokesperson for or an advisor on Black Economic Empowerment? She is not Black, she is Tamil, she doesn’t even respect Black as a classification for people who very much do exist & classify themselves as such. Would a Chinese person be asked to advise on broad-based Black Economic Empowerment issues, just because they were born in South Africa and are therefor African by nationality? Verushca is Tamil, she is ethnically South Asian, she is in no way shape or form, a Black woman. I personally believe she is unethically misrepresenting herself as Black / Ethnically African, because it empowers her, economically. Anyone who believes this woman is anything more than a charlatan when it comes to Black issues, is easily conned.
