Got my dirt hill groomed just right for jumping! 4S running a 4S ESC with an Arrma BLX 6S capable motor since I finally blew the original motor. I of course will put a 6S capable ESC in it once the stock one burns up, but will probably not run the truck on 6S, it breaks well enough with 4S, I really don't think the components can handle 6S... I really thought the failing stripped differentials ...

Thank God my wife and I made this video when we did because the next time I took it out the rear differential and the center transmission went out. I got this truck for Christmas and it's my favorite one... it isn't 6S, doesn't do wheelies or flips, but it is relatively lightweight for it's gigantic 1/8th size... something about simply the way it handles I guess is why I love it so much... you ...

Oddly enough there was no tire blow out or wheel collapse as I truly thought there would be, but there is some decent drifting, great speed for a truck this size with smaller wheels and oddly enough some decent wheelies with these same cheapwheels... I fixed my RUclips settings so now you can see the rest of my videos! So check them out for sure!

I think this is a great video, the point of view for the jumps are great from on top of the hill! As a continuation of the last video, I watched multiple times and in slow motion to see where i went wrong... first of all, watching the previous video in half time is hilarious because I sound like Richard Christy from The Howard Stern Show, but also because it is really neat to view the jumps in ...

How is the Redcat holding up with the grease in the shock ?
Perfect! There are bigger issues with this truck, I gave up running it on 6S, maybe because it's too hot in Florida even in the winter, I burn out the ESC, motor, pinion never stays in place or strips, shred reduction gears etc... 4S keeps it running so much easier and reliably.
Is this SUNY Albany?
Yes! I have no idea what they are building now...
Love it.
Nice rig.. I'm running a 2150kv brushless with an 80amp ESC combo, some off brand from Amazon, but it still moves. I run a 5000mAh 3s lipo battery and the tires expand, just ridiculous torque. The Brushless combo works great, no cogging, no heat issues, infact the Lipo battery gets hotter than the ESC, I can run the system all day without any issues.... Anyways, cool video dude
Thanks so much! I have to say once I got into the 1/8th scale I have never turned back in the few yrs I've been messing with RC vehicles... but I can tell that the 10th scale are more popular bc I get most comments on this video... how long do you let your batteries sit before charging them? I will many times let them sit indoor for 24hrs before I half charge them, especially when I get them hot like you said happens.
I imagine that you are using a higher toothed pinion or a lower toothed spur. Right?
Good Salam support guys
The BE6S comes way under geared at 11T pinion. It can handle a 16T though it can get hot. 15T is probably best. The only problem is that the stock tires can't handle the speed. They will literally rip away from the rim. The glue doesn't come apart but the sidewalls beyond the glue will tear. I run a 16t pinion with a strong fan. I've mounted HPI Goliath tires, that I've taped, on HPI Tremor rims. They both hook up and look awesome. The tire diameter is a couple millimeters less than the huge stock tires but, they are wider. The DHK Maximus which I also own, isn't even in the same ballpark as the Team RedCat TR-MT8E BE6S. The Maximus isn't really a basher. It is great for smooth serfaces of all types and can handle some small mid speed jumps. It's a lot of fun on grass but if you try to run it fast off road or in a rough unkept field, you will at minimum bend at least 1 axle every run. The tires are an odd size and are made of a thin soft rubber that will blow up at speed or when diffing out. The Team RedCat TR-MT8E BE6S is arguably and IMO the most durable 1/8 scale RTR Monster Truggy on the market. It is actually more than just opinion, in that the parts are made of quality materials, that are measurably thicker than anything else in its class.
What state do you live in? These electric cars barely run in the winter in Florida, i don't ever take them out in the summer, they run so hot so quick, but it's rare it's even 70 or under here even in the winter. Idk, this truck doesn't really even like to run on 6S with a 10 tooth here... So one thing I've noticed with more than one set of tires is the foam dicentegrates and it's not from driving them in water at all... it's happened with the tires from thos truck and also tires that don't come off the rim like the six pack 3.8" wheel/tires... any recommendations you have for that... it's getting to the point with a lot of my stuff I may just throw away, I don't know what else to do with it... let me know if you know what to do with these wheels
@@hobbytimeallthetime7553 Colorado, very different climate however summers are hotter than you'd think based on its reputation biggest difference is humidity.. I've run it in 100 degree weather but I have added a high flow, high voltage capable fan. The stock tires and wheels are not great. I have taped and mounted HPI Goliath Tires onto HPI Tremor rims. Looks nice performs great. If you want to remove glued tires from the rims, look up the acetone fume method. Then you could tape the wheels you have.
I see, and then could always just redo the foam in them... right? Humidity destroys everything... there is truth to the atmosphere being thicker here also... I have a bunch of trucks and batteries, have to rest them every 15 mins, so then just run another one, even when the batteries do over 20 mins... stock gearing 2 3S 3000mah batteries lasted 9mins... so I was running it with 4 3S 3000mah batteries, 2 in parallel and 2 stock series, but it's really just so i don't keep having to keep changing the batteries, still have to take a break after 10 minutes... did you watch my videos of my R8MT truck? I love that truck, but got so screwed that can't simple parts for it and can litterally only get it from the company who makes it... trust me, tried Amazon and ebay and even Google search for the parts... wasn't super expensive truck either. You own a lot of trucks too?
@@hobbytimeallthetime7553 so long as you don't any liquid acetone on the foams they will be okay. I use a large salable container put rocks on the bottom to keep the wheels out of the acetone. Seal it up and check 1 day later. Start working the bead off the rim. Could take 3 days. Once you are done, cap the container and put away for future use. Depending on how hard you are running it and on what surface, 10 minutes at a time isn't bad in heat. I know thick grass heats all my trucks up. I wouldn't say a lot, but a mix of various types and sizes. 11 total, 2 of which are nitro 2wd's.

How durable is this truck?
12th May is my birthday. And surprisingly my father gifted this to me on this very day. 12 May, 2019
JLB 21101, watch my speed videos... that's stock after you add a $30 RCR2CE remote and receiver or a $50 traxxas tqi... what's really fun is messing with the batteries in parallel and series hook ups since the ESC to this car only comes with a hook up for one battery you will have to buy a series connector and parallel if you want. If you run 2S it will do ~32mph, 3S 45mph, and I've had 4S up to 65mph with fresh batteries... I also like running 3S parallel, the car will go forever doesn't overheat either. I only run this car on the road... it would go on dirt and grass, but I love my speed runs with it! You will need weights for the front though, I started off with a bag of rocks in a ziplock and after everyone made fun of me I got some led weights, they weren't expensive, but the rocks were free! Have you ever had an RC do 40 or 60mph? It's an art to control it! I got this car for $250 on Ebay as a last one, I love great deals, if you pick one up for $280 now i think it's going for you won't be disappointed... only time it broke was when i drove it into a concrete lamp post in a mall parking lot... i honestly don't know how the car is made so well... the pinion and spur are still original and I've driven this car a ton! And the pinion hasn't worn or fallen off... you will not be disappointed! People come up to me in parking lots and ask if I upgraded the shocks and stuff, I said no, this is how it comes!! Tell me what you decide, don't go crazy with the 4S right away, seriously... i own 2 motorcycles, been riding for yrs... I'd rather be messing with these truck/cars now...
Where did you buy the upgrades?and what all didyou have to have?i have the epx brushed but its to slow for me
This was early on, I made the huge mistake of getting things from the hobby shop...Don't ever buy anything from a store unless it is the same price as online. Ebay and Amazon only! Or other online sites only if need be... Sometimes Amazon is even cheaper... however I'm going to give you the best piece of advice, don't upgrade this truck, it can't really handle it... some people even make it 3S, which I can't even wrap my head around... what are you looking to do? Race? Speed on pavement? Off road including jumps and drifting etc? Tell me what you are into all I'll give you a good recommendation on what truck you should get instead... check out my other videos, I now own a bunch and I'm as thrifty as can be... are you running lipos? Brushed is junk... are you new to the hobby? Do you have a budget? I did, but to really enjoy the hobby budgets go out the window... one thing I can do is save you time money and aggrevation screwing around with this truck... I wish i had this help and advice when I was new to the hobby! Prices of lipos are falling, price of everything else is skyrocketing! Decide if you are going to commit to the hobby or not... not always the most expensive trucks are the best either by any means! There are many days I find myself with my trucks with or without other people and there is truly nothing else I'd be doing in the entire world I truly have so much fun with them! No lie!
Not really looking to race just wanting a fast car trying to find a new hobby for me and my son to get into we both ride dirt bikes at the moment but I'm hurt also at the moment trying to find something else we can both get into maybe take our car to the dirt bike tracks and run them while we ride sometimes.. mine is not too much of an issue I'm not rich but I'm not broke I can afford few hundred bucks or more
I re-read your post, I love my Force Epidemic for dirt and jumping, the truck is insane tuff, can't find it anymore... so you want a 1/8 scale with extra wide wheelbase... I like my terremoto, just screwy battery holders... have that one at my parents, only used it a couple times...
I barely know how to use RUclips, please look below at posts... I meant to post that one below as a response to your post and i really took my time and put thought in it, but i posted it as a new comment...
I figured out how to copy it so you get it right in your email: JLB 21101, watch my speed videos... that's stock after you add a $30 RCR2CE remote and receiver or a $50 traxxas tqi... what's really fun is messing with the batteries in parallel and series hook ups since the ESC to this car only comes with a hook up for one battery you will have to buy a series connector and parallel if you want. Some cool jumps you did bro 👍👍
Thank you! I guess I should go for some back flips soon, but last time I did that I ruined the motor on the landslide. I bent the shaft of the motor and kept driving it and then destroyed the motor totally.
Thats rc for ya lol
Your car has the stickers ore applied
If you are talking about the body, it came that way, I can never put on the decals on the way the manufacturer does... that body is expensive too, so I have been really good about preserving it! It is a nice looking car.
@@hobbytimeallthetime7553 I myself have the 80a version of this car. So I know
One thing about the Maximus is that you can't do too much changing of the wheels/ tires anything bigger than what is on there bc they will hit the frame or body... other trucks there are a lot more options to change out the wheels to much bigger options.
Only thing changed was the transmitter/ receiver to the Redcat RCR 2CE... that is why the truck drives forever away... however this truck came with an okay transmitter receiver, I changed it because I destroyed the receiver with water, I didn't realize the water was getting in the cover for the transmitter when I would rinse it.
Is everything Stock on the DHK Maximus ?
After seeing this and the unboxing video again I am glad that I did not buy J3 Speed. Hope you get the chance to try Vkar Bison too because both cars are prety much the same but have their own pros and cons and some people say Bison is better some say Jlb is better but I wonder what you would think about that. For me after some serious research I ve decided to go with DHK Zombie as you already suggested but may want to add this model or bison in future just not sure right now :) About balooning tires and pizza cutters I saw a video that attaching-wrapping 3 circular piece of plastic fishing ropes/guts around tires realy helped for more stable shape but I dont know for how long that can last. You may want to check and try that for yourself ^^ Thanks for sharing all that usefull information :) Thumbs up!
Now I remember more of what I was going to write on the previous reply. I would not get the Bison due to reliability issues and not being able to get parts for it... that was what I finally surmised after watching numerous videos... if you can't get critical parts for a truck then there is no point, I've done many crafty things, but at some point you typically just need the correct part in a truck to make it function properly and also to keep from breaking other parts due to not having the correct part where it should be. You are making me want to do an in depth video of my Maximus, it may help you with your Zombie, what is good about my MAXIMUS and then the flaws I fixed in it. Tell me how it is when you get it, I think it will be awesome! I was able to correctly use traxxas parts in mine due to not being able to get a little part I needed, so do keep that in mind, but you will need someone with a lot of experience to help you with something like that locally. I have not seen fishing wire to keep from ballooning, and I would probably never do that, I think it would break in no time and/or destroy the tire... I have seen putting duck tape on the inside of the tire, I guess that isn't a bad idea, but you are probably adding a lot more weight than you think... weight of tires make a huge affect on performance of truck/car, land harder or go slower... so then ask yourself, what was the point, better control? You'd have better control driving slower, right? It's a conundrum for sure! Keep me informed with your new truck... you want me to make that Maximus video too?
@@hobbytimeallthetime7553 Thanks for the advice about Bison and fishing wire. Now as a final tought I plan to get a JLB first before zombie just because its cheaper and I am sure I wont get Bison so I know I can not go wrong with 21101. Also now that Maximus is growing in me just because being a better rig as stock than Zombie stock so I would love to watch your in depth review of your Maximus in future to choose one of them while waiting for a sale promotion :) Thumbs up!
Have you considered getting an 80a ESC model for much slower speed but better control and stabillity? I am a beginner and have recently changed my mind not to buy J3 speed also but wondering about 80a and 120a differences. I have not owned a powerfull rc before and can you say 80a version is more user friendly and suitable for casual bashing and off road runs instead of speed runs? Thank you in advance.
I have seen the one guy bash the Cheetah, which is almost exactly like the 21101, I would reccomend not bashing the Cheetah or the 21101, they really aren't meant for it... where will you be using it? This is more like a car, not truck... this is a big 1/10th scale that's why I like it, however you truly can do so much more with a 1/8th scale truck. This model can run on 2S, 3S or 4S which makes it really fun... whatever you decide email me first bc I can save you money rather than learning the hard way. You don't need 120amp ESC, but typically a higher amp ESC runs all power better through it along with able to handle higher voltage. I will recommend a truck for you. The DHK MAXIMUS I got on Ebay for $310, but usually it's $380... This truck will be able to jump like crazy with excellent control. REDCAT LANDSLIDE may be an excellent value, but it won't jump nearly as well, you can get that for $278 now, I truly love the FORCE EPIDEMIC at $250, except the ESC in that truck is junk and the truck is sitting in the garage currently waiting for little plastic parts that are on backorder... excellent truck for jumping! Durable as hell too, did you see my video of me jumping it? Watch to the end where I jump it nearly on to my wife. I have a bunch of 1/10 scale, but I wouldn't even consider that scale anymore. Just not sure I love the Maximus at $380 price... and you will need a $10 set of tools from Amazon, super glue, Red Locktite and some extra metric screws since the first handful of times you will use the truck loses screws all over the place, just with driving it, I almost gave the truck away the first 5 times I drove it, but after I super glued some screws in it the truck has been amazing, on 4S it will run more than 30 mins on 6200mah batteries... and it will go 31mph... watch my other videos, email me before you decide anything, I have the ZD racing 1/8th scale truck arriving anyday now and I'm currently considering the Redcat Terremoto V2... do you have a budget? Are you in the hobby? Do you already have lipo batteries and chargers? Watch my other videos and the ones i'm posting tomorrow. Did I even answer your question? Lol.
@@hobbytimeallthetime7553 Well actualy the question was about 80a-120a differences of this particular model but I do understand now there is a lot more stuff than that to call 80a esc user friendly for beginners also I dont especially need 120a thats for sure. I really appreciate your answer and I do need help to choose a 1/10 - 1/8 scale truck to get in to the hobby. I bought a couple 1/12 - 1/18 toys a month before and have some tools to do minor repairs except Locktite and super glue thou nothing important broken yet also have a couple 2s batteries suitable for small trucks. Actually I must admit I chose to go with toys to begin with and those were not enough but I already spent over 250$ for them and seems like it was a mistake thou they are still fun. Now I have a budget like 300$ and my best options are Jlb Cheetah - Vkar Bison - DHK Zombie (Maximus is a bit more expensive also I want something smaller than that beast for now) I can consider Redcat Blackout - Terremoto V2 too those are available here too but I have no idea to compare them to other Chinese brands. I cant use gearbest to buy or most of American brands because of their shipping fees - too expensive it costs as much as the product itself - but banggood is my best option to wait for better deals along with local Redcat dealers. I did not understand why you dont reccomend Cheetah for bashing guess I dont really know what ''bashing'' means because it is not a common thing here thou I do want to drive relatively fast on open roads and some offroad driving on grass-sand-gravel and yeah I do want to jump it so guess I need an allround rig not so bigger than 1/10 scale. I hope I have managed to explain myself and sory guess there is no email - direct message option here. The video of your Maximus and TR MT8E has broken sound format to me unfortunately couldnt hear anything thou seemed very usefull also you drived on open road in a car made my day :) cool stuff looking forward your next videos. ^^
Where are you from? You are making me want to get a Cheetah, but the truck is 98% the same as this one, so I struggle with the idea, unless i'm wrong about the 98%, but if i'm wrong then maybe it's 95% the same... if I could get the Cheetah cheep I would like to try it, but due to how it's built and gearing I still don't think it is a basher... a basher is a truck you jump and do whatever with... 20 to 30mph is plenty speed to jump, my 21101 in this video goes 65mph! You can't jump a car at 65mph! You will break it! I think I better understand your question and can answer it better after me rewatching this video and seeing your response. I'm currently trying to upload a new video of this car does 65mph... it has an 80amp ESC! Why would I put a 120amp one in it? It's not over heating on a strong 4S run, and why would I want to run it on 6S? The physics of the truck (balance/stability) would make it not feasible to run it, on 6S you have a theoretical speed of 70 some mph which the differentials and gear would not be able to handle. It just wouldn't work, but you are asking a very valid question because when I get the parts for my Force Epidemic I already have a 120amp hooked up ready to go on that... but if you used this truck and know it's gearing etc you would see it probably can handle 6S if monitored closely and used reasonably, and if not it will run 4S better anyway. Get the Zombie, I have no experience with it but I believe it's the older model of the Maximus and is 95% the same, Bison breaks and I've seen videos that say it's hard to get parts. Many 1/10th scale are 2wd, they are very fun, but don't jump nearly as well, the physics is very different on all wheel drive cars/trucks... you will probably still need the Red Locktite and super glue, let me know what you decide. Sounds like you wouldn't want the FORCE EPIDEMIC, Terremoto V2 or TRMT8E BE6S because they are much bigger 1/8 models. Tell me how you make out, again, I'd like to check out the Zombie, but it's practically the same as the Maximus.
Have you been able to get the Epidemic to steer any better under power? Cool video BTW.
It just takes wide turns that I've gotten used to... turning in the front wheels have helped also though...
The fix is to tighten the servo saver. Its the silver ring. Makes a world of a difference
@@war_josh1550 I don't remember, maybe you can help me, after this video I broke a part I tried to glue with no luck, this was March I believe, I ordered this part: FCESS244004 and I was due to get it in may and my order was canceled... do you know where I can try next? So how fast was the final verdict?
48mph, the next video that day was the end of this one because the phone kept falling off the cardboard box it was taped to. I didn't try it on plain blacktop, but other trucks I'm finding there is no difference. This truck will run 6S, but it doesn't like it... ESC and motor gets really hot really quickly... others I've seen change the pinion, not sure how, this burnt out an ESC on me... I will never change the pinion on this truck again unless it falls off again. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Just add a SHIM to the inside of the bevel gear.. so it'll make decent contact with the RING gear,...You're going to have clean that grub screw...Ca it or BLUE loctite it....i dont have problems with the center shaft length. It's an easy fit too...just slice fule tubbing or add an oil ring to the inside of the CUPS.. it'll prevent it from sliding around... The clicking is from the metal spare gear and pinon gear mesh being too loose.. but it's normal. I run mine on 3s 45 C with 60A esc ...stock 3300kv brushless. It'll pop wheelies on command and do around 45-50 mph Got 2-ea for $108 -ea last year under Baseltek..it's basically a Volcano PRO. since I have 2-ea....I modify one....made it 16" wheel base. Mounted some off set wheels and tires.. Made body from Foam board....( IUO SHADOW..lol). I use duct tape or whatever....I also build DIY foam jets/planes...it's not a big deal. Less than $5 for the body...Its fine to just drive it around in a local parking lot or in front of house...( I only paid $108 for the truck.) it looks more like 1/6 scale....The total length of the body is almost 30" The width is 13".... It's an just a 1/6 scale 50 mph 2wd on road R/C TOY...for $110...there about. It's still plenty of fun to drive. i have brushless T maxx. MGT 4.6...ect ( i have 25-ea trucks ,,since I got back into R/C again).Im into converting old 1/8 nitro into brushless, at the moment. I get the rollers for cheap..or none working engines.. ( mostly under $100) My go to set is 4076 2250 kv ($35) 120 ocday ($25)....cheaper than a nitro engine). 4s 5000 mah 50C...Zop power...$45 -ea...They're decent. I have so many trucks...i have to keep the power system affordable for each truck... To keep then around $200 It'll make all my 1/8 scale do over 45...The buggies will do over 50 mph, easy The 18-23 pinons SET ( 5-ea ) are only $7
This is an awesome post! I just got into the hobby a year and a half ago and now messing with videos. I should have done this last year so I could learn quicker. When you say SHIM, is that a mini washer? I am not one for spending all sorts of money, but these trucks are so addicting and I am getting better at fixing them and i'm learning so much it is keeping me interested. It's amazing what you can get on Ebay compared to a local shop. If you can run this on 3S you must be good at this stuff, I could hook one of my 3S ESCs to the motor but I'm sure I would destroy the components. Truly appreciate the post!
