What about bacterial leaf scorch with oaks going forward? Arborists are not recommending them with climate warming.
Bacterial leaf scorch only affects oaks in the red and black oak group and there are treatments available for disease. We have many oaks in the red and black oak group with very few occurrences of bacterial leaf scorch.
I hope that a future episode will address the impact of climate change on evergreen trees. Thanks!
always love the lunch series, especially the cutting garden!! love the reblooming Iris!!
Thank you for the kind words, @JerriBerriW. The reblooming iris is favorite of our volunteer flower arrangers too!
To determine the correct angle to use the sharpening stone, it helps to use a black marker to blacken the shiny part of the blade. Then use the stone on the blade. Angle the stone so it "erases" the black marker. Flat side of blade should NOT be sharpened. If flat side of blade is not flat, you should probably get a replacement blade. Good presentation.
Thanks for the tip on the black marker, @rhhirsch!
Beautiful arrangements 😮❤
Thank you. Our volunteer flower arrangers to an amazing job!
In response to a question in our chat during the premiere, we have not had an earwig problem with our dahlias this year. Our biggest issue has been thrips. We have been treating them with horticulture oil. Please note to only apply the oil on cloudy days as the treatment can burn the plant on sunny days. We also cut some flower buds because this is where the thrips live.
How old is the tree... 😮😮😮
Which tree? We featured may crapemyrtles in this program.
@@scottarboretum the very first one... the big big one..
I have never seen a Crapemyrtle that big! Wow 😮
We have some large selections in our garden. We also do not top them, thus allowing to each mid-size tree heights.
Great tour. Thank you. Fascinating to see a whole group of woody plants that were never grown there when I was a student.
Thank you for tuning in. We have been having great success with this group of plants.
Now if people ask what the hell am I doing, I'll tell them to watch this video. Thanks, this is the most respectful attitude towards the environment in my opinion.
Delighted to learn you are gardening with some of these techniques. It really will take an understanding of our natural world to appreciation this different style of gardening.
During our video premiere, we were asked how the Arboretum is handling Crapemyrtle Bark Scale. Our IPM coordinator sent this great link about Crapemyrtle Bark Scale in the northeast. extension.umd.edu/resource/crapemyrtle-bark-scale-new-problem-home-landscapes/
The companion planting makes for a very different look for the rose garden.
It really does. The companion plants have really extend the season of beautiful blooms in this garden.
Wonderful video !!! Are the roses still looking as beautiful as they do in this video ? I want to make a long-distance trip to see the roses this week and am hoping they’re still at their peak ! Thank you so much for these lovely videos -they bring the flowers to those of us who don’t live close by and can’t always see them in person ! Much appreciated !!!
Thank you for watching the video. Im glad you enjoyed it. The video was filmed last Tuesday and the garden was at its peak at that time. The blooms are starting to wind down and we have begun deadheading but the majority of them still look lovely.
Great tour. Nice to hear about the horticultural history as well. Thanks
Thank you for tuning in.
The volume is very low and difficult to hear.
Sorry you are having trouble. In addition to turning up the volume on your device, the RUclips video controls also has a volunteer control. Try turning that up as well.
@@scottarboretum I have them both at 100% thank you.
Excellent Video! Do you then backfill the area as it was - or do you keep the root flair exposed to some degree ? Thanks a lot.
This was so informative. I thoroughly enjoyed watching and learning. Please make more videos.
Thank you for tuning in. Follow our channel to get updates when we release new videos.
In the U.K we are no longer able to use peat moss. Is there an alternative?

So nicely done by all. Inspiring!
Thank you for kind words, Barb.
how old clematis must be before you can divide it?
Mom is going to be a RUclipsr❤
Bought two for my yard
It is a beautiful magnolia!
Lake Ochobee 0:16 ❤🎉❤
Where can I buy these oils? And if I already have fruit on the plants, can I still use the oils? What about ladybugs?
Wonderful display and description. Thank you!
Thank you for tuning in, @haroldkalkstein9895. The collection currently has the late blooming cherries in full bloom.
Thank you ! It was an enjoyable tour.
Thank you for tuning in, @user-rd8vm5bo6p. We have been delighted to feature our collections this spring.
Thank you for this wonderful tour and informative description of each tree!!! I visited Scott Arboretum for the first time two weeks ago , during the Ikebana Festival and was absolutely thrilled to walk among the gorgeous cherry blossom trees in the Cherry Border and view them during this peak blooming time !!! Cherry trees are my absolute favorite tree and the Cherry Border Walk is such a delight !!! I also love these virtual tours and appreciate and enjoy each and every one of them !!! Thank you and great job !!!
This was very helpful and very easy to understand 👍
Thank you for the kind words. Happy creating.
Absolutely “love” !
Thank you Sharon! The cherries were beautiful this year.
I just discovered Scott Arboretum recently through the Garden Passport and I absolutely these virtual tours, even though this one was three years ago ! Great job to Becky !!!
Thank you for tuning in Sharon. I hope you enjoyed your visit to the garden as well.
This should be a law, all landscaping companies should have a certified arborist approve their design and teach them how to plant a tree correctly.
Good job, Dale. The Pinetum looks terrific.
Thank you Alan. The bulbs in the Pinetum looked great this year.
How did you plant the crocus in the grass near the magnolia? I've been wanting to incorporate crocus into my lawn and was thinking of just using a screwdriver to make single holes to pop them in.
ruclips.net/video/L5-pARlgb3w/видео.htmlsi=c8kjFn-V6MSZlMzS
They talk about the crocus on the link. I just came from that video to this one to see the results😂
Margaret Roach is a national treasure 💚. Glad to see she’s being celebrated and recognized during her lifetime: she is definitely influencing and teaching many home gardeners.
Does thia work for goats ?
Great video, showed me everything I wanted to know, thank you
Glad you found the video useful!
What a collection! Thanks for sharing this wonderful video
The collection has such an array of colors. It is always a delight during the winter months.
What a spectacular collection! Thanks for sharing it with RUclips viewers. Great video.
Thank you for joining us on the magnolia tour. The magnolia bloom was at peak when we filmed and it really was a delight to share it with others.
Great information!
Oh you encourage masks outside, stunning and brave!
🤣🤣🤣
spectacular walk of mags!!! may I ask when was this recorded? Will I be able to see them still in bloom this weekend? I know many early mags were subject to frost last week or so, but I still have some hope...
I was wondering the same thing - if I visit within the next week will I still be able to see the Magnolias looking as beautiful ,or near beautiful,as they do in the video ,or should I wait until the Cherry trees are in bloom ?
Thank you for tuning in Jerri. The video was recorded the week before it premiered. It takes a week edit and review nomenclature. The magnolias and cherries are both in bloom right now. Our Flowering Cherry Border will be full bloom the weekend of April 5, 6, and 7 during our Ohara School of Ikebana Exhibition. www.scottarboretum.org/calendar/ohara-school-of-ikebana-exhibition-2/2024-04-06/
@@scottarboretum love it! Thank you for letting me know, I think I will be on the ground soon 🌸
Fantastic video !!! Have always wanted to visit Scott Arboretum and this video definitely made my decision for me to visit this beautiful arboretum ! I love Magnolias and adore Cherry trees even more ,so I have to decide on which time to visit since I live three hours away. Thanks so much for a very informative and beautiful video !!!
Thank you for tuning in Sharon. Spring is always a good time visit. As always, another wonderful tour of the Arboretum. Thank you, Mary, you’re terrific.
Thanks for a great tour of the snow covered Pinetum. Mary's relaxed and easy-to-follow delivery allows us blockheads to learn new ways to appreciate this magnificent Arboretum. I couldn't stop watching!
Thank you for sharing the arboretum for all to enjoy ❤️
I really enjoy this tour of Scotts arboretum conifers. I reside in the mid Atlantic so I am planning to visit your Aboretum in fall. The Hinoki C Split Rock I have in my garden bed and givens its mature size I will definitely have to relocate. The pinus densiflora Umbrella tree i was planning to acquire as a standard. I am not sure the growth habit whens it's grafted. Would love to see a mature specimen.
FAbulous cultivars. I might use some on the grounds of our Condo Association in Maine. Recommendations for nursery sources?
