    People still believe in this fairy tale nonsense, they never set foot on the moon. NASA canceled it's 2024 trip to the moon, claiming they need four years to work on the technology too make a space suite which can sustain life on the moon, and 4 billion dollars too make that suite..

    • @rockethead7
      @rockethead7 2 года назад

      There was never really going to be 2024 landings. Trump and Pence and Bridenstine kept talking about that date, because they wanted to have it happen in Trump's 2nd term (had he gotten elected again). But, congress never approved the funding at a pace to put anybody on the surface by then. They only ever funded it at a rate to get there by 2028-2030. And, yes, it's very difficult to make a suit last that long. The Apollo suits barely lasted through their short missions. Now, the Artemis missions are supposed to last at least 10x longer, perhaps more. Not so easy to do.

  • @hopelessnerd6677

    • @andreabindolini7452

      Not so smooth. Apollo 15 was by far the roughest landing of the lot, with the highest touchdown velocity

    • @rockethead7
      @rockethead7 Год назад

      In addition to what Andrea said, Apollo 15 landed on a sloping surface with such an angle and smacked the ground so hard that the engine bell actually cracked and crumpled (it wasn't even supposed to touch the ground). Furthermore, it was at the edge of the design limits of the angle, and had the angle been any worse, there was a risk that it wouldn't have a safe liftoff. The true irony of it is that Dave Scott performed a textbook landing, far more textbook than just about every other landing, coming straight down for the last ~300 feet or so. But, the bad part of this was that he couldn't see directly under him. Cracked and crumpled engine bell: AS15-88-11882 Crooked angle: AS15-86-11600

    • @andreabindolini7452
      @andreabindolini7452 Год назад

      @@rockethead7 It was said that the commander was too quick to turn off the engine once the contact light was on. That was intended to avoid damage from rocks projected from the exhaust but in this case, stopping the engine so early, the LM fell abrutly. On the contrary, Armstrong forgot to stop the engine at the contact light, and the resulting contact was the softest of all... but inadvertently risky.

    • @rockethead7
      @rockethead7 Год назад

      @@andreabindolini7452 Well, any cutoff after the contact light was on was fine. Apollo 15's bigger issue was the meandering and sloping terrain it landed on. But, sure, I won't argue that he also cut the engine the moment the light went on. Apollo 15 was the first mission to have the longer/extended engine bell, so, it was a lot bigger of a concern than the first 3 landings. Armstrong and Shepard both left the engine on past touchdown. This was "wrong," but, I'd never dare say a negative word about either of those guys. With the shorter engine bell, it didn't matter as much anyway.

      LPD is the Landing Point Designator. In this mode, Dave can use his handcontroller to tell the computer to alter its target left or right, forward or back. From the computer readout, Jim will give Dave an angle (numbers Jim is calling out) which tells him where to look through scribe marks on the window to find the place where the computer thinks they will land. There are matching scribe marks both on the inner and outer panes of Dave's window and, if he positions himself so that those two sets line up, he will be looking at the proper point on the surface.
