What to Watch - August, 2024
I DO NOT OWN THESE CLIPS.
1. The Bridges of Madison County (1995, Prime Video)
2. The Insider (1999, RUclipsTV)
3. Heavyweights (1994, Disney+)
4. The Pale Blue Eye (2022, Netflix)
5. Paris, Texas (1984, Max)
There’s something about The Bridges of Madison County that feels so intrinsically true that I was initially shocked to learn it hadn’t been taken from a memoir. This film so astutely uses its setting, to the point that one cannot separate the story from its sense of place. It’s obvious that there isn’t a single frame of this movie filmed on a soundstage - it’s all on location in Iowa, inside an old house that feels like another character in the film, on unnamed dirt roads and, of course, u...

I DO NOT OWN THE MOVIE CLIPS FEATURED. The American President, 1995 (AppleTV) If there was ever a time for a much-needed dose of optimism in the experiment known as America, it is now. For me, one of the most reliable sources is The American President, a 1995 romantic comedy from Rob Reiner that sees the widowed President of the United States falling in love with an environmental lobbyist. What...

1. Office Space When Office Space came out in 1999, it was a box office disappointment. Not even Jennifer Aniston, at the height of Friends popularity, was enough to create a decent showing. But it did eventually find an audience on video and go on to become a cult classic. It’s one of those movies that just goes down so easily, what we sometimes call watchable. Like, if it’s on television when...
What to Watch - Summer Edition!
Просмотров 392 месяца назад
Jaws is the quintessential summer movie and invented the idea of the summer blockbuster. When it opened in 1975, it became the most successful film of all time and the first movie ever to make 100 million dollars at the box office. Studios still follow the precedent set by Jaws - they release what they expect to be their big financially successful movies - usually franchises or ones that rely h...

What to Watch Election Alexander Payne is one of my favorite directors precisely because of the tone of this movie - it’s grotesque and hilarious at the same time, full of pain and wit in equal measure. Every performance here is terrific. It’s one of Reese Witherspoon’s earlier roles (before becoming a huge star with Legally Blonde), and she is damn funny. In fact, it makes me wish she would do...

Born on the Fourth of July (Netflix) Primary Colors (Prime Video) Primary Colors follows a Southern governor (obviously modeled after Bill Clinton) as he runs for President of the United States. We get to see the inner workings ...

Movie recommendations for the week of June 21, 2024. 1. Falling in Love 2. Moscow on the Hudson 3. Minari 4. Punch-drunk Love 5. Jim Henson: Idea Man Falling in Love I’m starting with Falling in Love (and Moscow on the Hudson, #2 on our list) because it is available on Netflix ONLY until the end of this month. If that doesn’t scare you, I don’t know what will. Falling in Love came out in 1984 a...

Do the Right Thing will astonish you!
All bangers this week. Two 10s and a few 9s. Very excellent films - and most are ones I definitely always link to the summer "vibe."
@@Jogwheel I knew I could count on you to respect the vibez
Great selection. Watched To Kill A Mockingbird just 3 weeks ago. I agree that some films are better in black and white. Haven't seen Do The Right Thing. Have Prime so will watch it.
Let me know what you think!
Awesome picks! Watched Capote and u were right, it was the perfect film 🥹
PSH's performance is truly haunting.
Good picks! However, just from the clip you shared, I can tell Still Alice will be too much for me lol Gotta see Nyad! No Hard Feelings was the type of movie I had been wishing Jlaw would make for a long time. Also, you were in NYC? Should have let me know!
Yeah, Still Alice is intense, but Julianne Moore brought it (as usual). I was only there for 24 hours, but next time for sure!
I have only seen a couple of these but will remedy that. Thanks for the suggestions.
Let me know what you think!
I must say, the way you word things and describe the feeling of the movie is incredible. Loved these recommendations. Will definitely try them out ❤️
Let me know what you think!
Great recommendations. Can not wait to see some of them this week.
Which ones have you not seen?
Love this! Great in depth explanations. I love to hear how a movie is with our spoilers before watching. I’ll definitely check out Minari it looks great ❤️
Loved it!!!! ❤
Love this idea 👍 Will have to give Falling in Love a shot. Wasn't really on my radar before.
It's Bob DeNiro like you've never seen him before
I'm glad that I was able to go to the screening of this movie in Portland back in....2013 I think it was. Made sure to get myself a copy while I was there.
Is this still available to download?
How charming! It has its faults, but delightful none-the-less.
Your paintings are beautiful. Your daughter is beautiful too. So sorry for the hurt and pain that you go through every day. Addiction is HORRIBLE ;-( May God Bless YOU
SO GOOD ! THANK YOU !
SpaceCowboy - the music was done by Luke & Russ Condon (in a band called Town Meeting) and Dennis Callahan. Glad you like it!
Thank you!!!
Hi Chris, this looks very interesting, I hope I can see it soon. I wanted to ask you what the soundtrack was. It adds a lot to the mystery atmosphere of the footage, especially the one that sounds in the first thirty seconds or so. Please let me know. Best of luck and keep up the good work!
It's available to order on the official website - I'll even sign the disc for you! Chris
Can't wait to see this!
Sorry for the delay - if you visit the website and order a DVD there, I'll ship it to you myself. Thanks!
