REVS Garagistas - Collection Tour
Просмотров 3 тыс.3 года назад
Hello and welcome to my first video! Really pleased to have been invited to share a little tour of our collection of classics for the fourth REVS-Limiter event!
You did very well to restore this delightful old girl. I learned to drive in a 1300 and still remember how good they are. Sadly far too many were scrapped because of rust. Yes, they did rot, but I think many were scrapped on reputation, rather than rot. From the registration GTV, it is a Nottinghamshire car originally. Well done for saving a fine old classic. I,d love to drive again but are now blind.
My dad had a 1959 Hillman Minx 4 door saloon in this colour below the waist line with white on top. I have great memories of the car and the view of the dashboard from the rear seat. Ours was column change too. There is a well know hill in Sheffield called East Bank road which my dad used to take at a flat out sweep from the bottom and see how far up we could get in top gear before needing to change down. Sadly ours had to go to the scrap yard. I helped my Dad siphon all the petrol out before running it downhill the the scrap yard. 😢 I hope you are still enjoying the car.
Lovely car ,emremember them well from my childhood in the 60s along with the ford pops ,Austin a30s ect .l prefer that mode before the fins were added, love the period radio as well, l can imagine pirate radio been played on that in the 60s .
Thankyou so much for your genuine talk . I enjoyed it so much. I love Hillmans and it is so great to see a young lady like yourself so down to earth and interested as well. I love the Dog as well. Thanks again. Cheers, John (Australia)
Great story - and love this car!
…perfectly suited to that nice doggie…❤!
Had a Morrie in 1973 and fitted a 3.3 L 6 cylinder Holden Engine with matching 4 Speed and stronger rear axel. Loved the reaction at the Traffic lights.
A truly lovely car.
Excellent and sounds like you have tha same problems saying goodbye to your cars that I'd... Your Grandad sounds a wonderful guy 👍
My Mini 1000 was always leaking oil. I'd change a gasket, and then the next one would go. Same with oil seals. Oh, the joys of old cars. Maggie is gorgeous ❤
She's so beautiful, love the dog 🐕 chilling on her minx just waiting for mom to finish filming 😅❤🇬🇧🙏🤠
UWL 345 was my 1964 Hillman minx dekuxe in Moroccan Brown.
Beautiful dog
Thanks a lot Emily. Very smart car and most interesting. BUT ..............I'm not selling my Austin Somerset !
It’s the “three spires”, not the three cathedrals.
ONE spire is st Michaels Cathedral, the other two are Christ church and Holy Trinity Church ⛪ 🤠🤟🇬🇧🙏
@@ianmangham4570 And? As I said, it’s the three spires, not three cathedrals.
@@brichas87 And our Vera bought Mavis a new welcome mat.
I saw this exact car today and, out of interest, googled the reg plate which showed me this video. You'll be glad to hear it looks like it is driven around still
Ah that's great to know 😊 thank you for your comment!
I LOVE your voice.I am a British classic cars buff myself. :)
I love the Minx! Very rare here in the US. Excellent choice on the whitewalls. LOL. We Americans love them. I have them on my Morris Minor. Brits always beat me up about it, but that's the way we got them here. I have pictures of my parents' 60 with them new. I've only ever had a Husky (hillman) but I'm always hunting a Minx over here.
I have two ado16, so I'm watching with great interest. I wish it was easier to do interior upgrades "over here". I don't think the U.S. ever got the fancier Wolseley or Vanden Plas. Maggie is looking fab!
I had a 1958 saloon . Did many miles in her , she was the third Hillman minx we had starting with a 1953 then followed by a 51 and finishing with the 58.
Just have so many great memories of minx’s. They always remind me of my late wife, and the fun we both had in our one during the early mid 70s. It had a dodgy starter, but luckily, we lived at the top of a very steep hill. lol 😂. Thank you so much for putting this up. Great memories. 👍💜👍
Thank you for posting your videos Emily, really enjoyed them 😊👍
🥰
Nice Minx, i had one of these a few years back, as my 56 Oldsmobile was having a winter rest. It was a great little car, mine was in light pastel green, that too was a 59. I now have 4 Austin Metropolitans, and use one as a daily driver. great video, thank you.
You're very pretty, Emily! Martha is surely great, too! 😘
Wow ! Amazing to watch this. I had two Wolseleys. A 1969 Snowberry white which was sadly scrapped and a '73 Harvest Gold auromatic i sold 5 or 6 years ago.
Love that ,prefer the early minx before the fins ,very rock n roll .love the cars of the 50s .
Absolutely lovely video on Martha what a lovely car and your enthusiasm as a young lady for a lot older car my dad had a couple of minx's they were good cars and I had a sunbeam rapier fast back in blue loved the car until the engine failed I'm sure you will get a lot of enjoyment out of her there's nothing like a classic old school
My dad had a 1959 series 3 station wagon, surf green with foam grey roof. Red interior and column shift. Had it from July 59 till November 69 when I was 11 years old. Remember it so well, especially the beautiful whining sound of 1st gear. I see yours has the proper concertina top radiator hose. Normal straight ones pull at the radiator and eventually break it. Ours was right hand drive like yours and I was always surprised the speedo wasn't placed on the drivers side, whatever side that happened to be.
Great video. I have owned 2 Hilman Minx 1959. Also live in Coventry. Due to health issues, I no longer drive, which is a shame. Will keep my eyes open for you at the car show in the city centre, if you go there.
My Dad had a new red one. Mom (mum) insisted on seat belts and he had a single set installed along the entire back seat. I was small enough then to lay across the back watching the street lights zoom by in the Seattle night. Yeah. I'm reminded of the rear window dials and the half folded roof. Take care of her.
Wow. How has that machine managed over 60 years without succumbing to tin worm. My 61 minx only lasted to 77.
Beautiful car!
I love Martha! She's a real beauty. I was introduced to Hillmans at a very young age. I think my grandfather had one shipped over from England in the early 1960s. He passed it on to my father who drove it until it died. It was a Minx convertible from maybe 1960 or 1961. I was enchanted with the top and how you could roll it half way back. Thank you for sharing. This brings back fond memories.
Your Minx is stunning!! I had a 1960 Minx briefly many years ago but I wasn’t capable at the time to do the welding work so decided to sell it on. Have regretted it ever since!
I myself ALSO agree that grille looks nicer!
You could also do a review on the lady who OWNS this car - what an EXPERT!
Thank you for the video. I owned a 1989 version. Same color, same interior. I drove it more than 200,000. miles, problem free. Though I had a 1995 95 later, the 900 will remain, or so it seems, my favorite car of all time.
But what did you do with the inner roof? the dog ate it
My dad had the same car (color and everything else) here in the States but it was LHD. I remember that the shift knob was marked EL (extra low), 1, 2, & 3. He bought it used in (I believe) 1961. The salted roads of our New England winters gradually made it 'disappear'. It was a nice little car!
I think I have gone deaf because I can't hear a thing!
This a very nice car and you presented a very comprehensive information about the history of Hillman Minx I had 1950 H Minx convertible top back in the 70s unrestored it was great, however back to your radio you can convert it to negative earth I have done it for my Vauxhall E series and you can have FM to it too but it was to late I have been told that after I received the refurbished radio back
This is a well presented video and it is good to see younger people with enthusiasm for these older vehicles. My late father and grandfather and myself owned 13 Hillmans or Humbers between us ranging from the early mark models, through Audax and Supers to Arrow Hunter. My first car was rusty 61 lllB Minx in 1974. I brought a rustless tidy survivor 61 lllB Humber 80 ( Badge engineered Minx in NZ other than badges only difference was horizontal slats on the sections of the grill where the Hillman had the "mouth organ" pattern). Unfortunately I had to sell it in 2004 because I lost garage space ( I wanted to keep her).
Thankyou so much for a wonderfully presented and well spoken video. I love hillmans and always have. my favourites look like your model, and I remember well my Primary Schools Head Mistress, Miss Burns, driving a yellow one with a off white top. I loved her car. I also learned to drive in a 1949 Hillman Minx and I have a great love for them as well. I owned a Humber Super Snipe 1965 series v model for about 25years. But my love has never dimmed on the name 'Hillman'. I admired how well you spoke and obviously nthe love you have for your dog. I am 65yrs old now, but older cars, especially British, to me are works of Art. It is great to know someone young has such an appreciation for them as well. Best wishes, John (Australia)
Nice tidy condition without being too overdone. A car you can still drive, which is what it's about after all. Right, I'm off to Tesco now in my Hillman Avenger...
Sweet ride! I love how it's so different than anything we have here in the US, yet it's smooth, clean lines and detailed dash would put it in contention with any other classic on the road here. Thank you for sharing!
Even though the Minx convertible and sedan were imported into the US in quite respectable numbers.
@@rumcove07 I'm originally from Coventry and I've got this same convertible in California
@@omarks Nice, this ex-pat was looking at one but I decided on a 5k 1969 Sunbeam Alpine instead and then I restored a Plymouth Cricket to be fully Chrysler UK!
This is awesome!! 😍
You inspired me to do up my car. Thanks alot!
Saab is an unpretentious car so it is an extension of the owner's perspective.
Very interesting thank you. I worked for Saab in the era these vehicles were manufactured. In my opinion the GLi was the best of the bunch. There is a publication Correctly Conceived and Properly Built....it is a very interesting read and may be available through the Owners Club or possibly the Saab museum...Enjoy
