Hopefully, it will make for a better video when we are settled and I can update you all on our progress! I'm not really sure if this is classed as a farmhouse, a country house or what, it's a self-build from 30 years ago in a village in the North Yorkshire country. Very remote a...

Why Is Buying A House So Stressful? - English House buying Process
Просмотров 290Месяц назад
Buying a house is such a stressful experience. Even if things go smoothly, the length of the process fills many people with dread and worry. So imagine how stressful it is when things go wrong. We started the house-buying process at the start of this year, we’re now on about month 8 and lots of things have gone wrong during the last few weeks. We’ve had many things thrown at us that have caused...

I Was Hit By A Homebuyers SCAM - Friday Afternoon Fraud

I was recently hit by a conveyancing scam known as Friday Afternoon Fraud. This scam works when your email gets hacked so your activity around buying a house (or making another big purchase) is monitored. The scammers then attempt to impersonate your solicitor and ask you to send them your house deposit. This can be devastating and cost you tens of thousands of your hard-earned money you have s...

I'm really looking forward to seeing your improvements. It's not a bad thing that it will take quite a while as often it's a good idea to live in a house first and get a feel for it so that you have a better idea of what you want to do. Your description of the state of the house reminded me of one house we moved into which was very similar. It's a shame the previous owners were not able to get professional cleaners in before they moved out but it is what it is! You've already made a great start.
I am enjoying your videos and like the informal style, its the waffling that makes it feel like you are just chatting to a friend. The new house is lovely, but I cringed at the thought of years of grease and smelly wee stained bathrooms. I'm really looking forward to seeing you make it a home.
Glad you enjoy it! I’m just worried it might be boring for some people if I go off topic. I usually edit out half of the video 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lovely fireplace !! And the Garrage ! 😍
The fire is literally all I think about
I really feel for you moving into such a mess, when my children were small we moved from a modern house to an led Victorian house, the first night there they sat watching a coal fire burn, they were only little and 3 of them had a bath together in a huge bath, I felt terrible I had to put socks on their feet at bedtime because there were few carpets, but, they were so busy exploring the new house they weren’t bothered about anything, when they left home we downsized and when the old house went back up for sale my daughter kept saying buy it back that house was “ace”
Victorian houses are lovely! I bet they have the best memories there and don’t remember the cold. My son loves the space in the new house to run around in! The mess wasn’t ideal but we were able to get it mostly under control in a few days with some scrubbing and carpet cleaning. My hands were just sore for a few days!
Can't believe they left dirty pants and the house a state. Not nice :(
They were behind the radiators. I think they must have been trying them and they fell down the back! 🫣
@ i look forward to see what you do with your new home 👍
Sounds not v loud :(
Oh no. It seems okay for me!
Glad you're settling in...looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful home ❤....have a great new year
Hi Corinne. I’m one of your new subscribers and really enjoying your vlogs. Looking forward to seeing your new home take shape, it’s got so much potential. Wishing you and your loved ones a merry Christmas and happy new year x
Thanks so much! I can’t wait to get stuck in. Hope you had a great Christmas too :(
I enjoyed your relaxing demeanor. Best wishes on your new home!
Thank you! 😊 ❤️
House looks lovely and your cat is cute.
Thank you! There’s another cat as well but he was hiding away 🥹
Im So happy that you exchange.. im in almost the same process like you. Watching your Video now just help me so.much. we made a offer for our house in March, we already have a 2nd mortgage offer and still no idea yet when we can exchange and complete... is been so stressfull because we buying a 10 years old house, the house is empty, but the sellers solicitors they didn't request a form in the council that give us a garantie to put the house in our name...we know now the sellers they requested that forms in 7th of december.. but now with christmas hollidays,i hope to have a answer in 2nd of january. Thank you for your Video. Is helping so much people that is in the same situation ...
The whole system is such a mess! That’s such a long time to wait, I hope you get it sorted after Christmas!
Just found your channel & subscribed. What a stunning property you've purchased. Love the annex above the garages/coach house & your walk-in pantry.✨ I live in West Yorkshire, near Leeds - unlike yours, it's definitely not a lovely countryside location.
Thanks so much! I lived in Leeds for about 8 years actually. I was in the Kirstall area :) You’re not too far from some lovely countryside villages I bet! Really enjoyed my time in Leeds, especially the bar/food scene when I was in my 20’s.
Was it an online conveyancer/solicitor?...if so I've learned a very hard lesson after moving home quite a few times is that i only use a local high street solicitor that can be accessed by me walking into the office to chase the process.
No, it was a local firm we have used before for our wills! I’ve heard awful things about online ones! I think the firm is generally okay but this particular solicitor is useless (trust pilot and Google reviews confirm this too).
@CorinneAtHome poor you...such a stress. Just such a shame that there isn't official monitoring on conveyancing procedures...I'm sure housing market could be more buoyant as obviously this is why buyers/ sellers pull out due to the friction and stress. However all is well that ends well.. beautiful home. Happy Christmas 🤶
@@themayalls5594 yeah it’s not good at all. We’ve already spoken with the director and will be making an official complaint as she’s done some pretty bad things I’ve not mentioned. Don’t expect anything of it but hope it can at least prevent others going through the same stress if she gets some feedback!
Your workshop would make a great Airbnb if renovated
We’d love to make it into something like that! Not sure we get many tourists around here though!
I would love that pantry ❤
Yeah it’s so nice to have a pantry! Needs organising though haha
If your putting in linoleum vinyl sheet roll flooring make sure it waterproof and stain resistant and suitable for bathrooms because some of them are not , saved you future hassle and will last long , and you can install it yourself with evo stick flooring adhesive paste and a good Stanley knife.
Yes of course. We’re having help from an experienced family member to help install it! It’s only a temporary thing for now as when we fully renovate the bathrooms we will be probably adding tiles. But that’s going to be a slow, one by one process! We just need to get rid of the carpets!
Great house….but some advice going forward….maybe not spin the camera around so much…I felt like I was on a rollercoaster😂😂
Haha sorry. I have a gimbal somewhere I need to get up and running 😅
Oh my gosh, congratulations! I'm so excited to be seeing all of your decorations/renovations. It's a beautiful home!
Thank you! We've got so much to do!! Don't know where to start but I do know I've got a lot to learn hahah.
Hi it looks nice. Have you got a oven?
Yes I have, it’s just to the left of the Welsh dresser in the kitchen :)
Aussie here - that organ is awesome, a lovely backdrop for your sons childhood, he will always associate that with his childhood.
I hope so! Really hope he wants to learn an instrument ❤️
Congratulations on moving at last Corrine, you must be so relieved!
Very! So glad to put all the conveyancing behind me!
What an amazing house. Wishing you all lots of happy moments there. You've done so well in just a few days ❤
Thank you! We are lucky that we've had help from family to come and entertain our son so we can get on with stuff :)
Lovely house…….Nice big rooms.
Yeah, we’re in love with the size!
Such a gorgeous house and i loveeeeee how big qnd spacious the rooms are. I also like how you are taking your time before doing anything major in terms of refurb/decoration.
Thank you so much!! We are going to do a few things quickly but the rest we'll be seeing how we use each space before making changes.
What a lovely house it must feel like you won the lottery. Best wishes for the future. I will be interested in following your your endeavours in the months to come
Thanks so much! 😊 We were very lucky to find this house and the sellers wanted a quick sale so it was very well priced! Lots to do though so I’m a bit overwhelmed as well! Happy to have you follow the journey ❤️
I'd use that second room as a play room or dining room but gourgous house ❤
There’s so many options! We were thinking of a couple of sitting chairs and a coffee table against the brick wall or something. We’re going to wait a while before deciding!
@CorinneAtHome definetly hun all takes time and money x
Hello Corinne. Just found your vlogs. I come fro the East Riding, where I still live. No place like home. Best wishes, Susan..

@CorinneAtHome you did better than I would I am in acotland and people can move within 6/8 weeks so quick in scotland and way cheaper but offers over so a blind offer x
Use neat thick bleach on the tiles.
Thank you! I’ll give it a go. I did use some bleach spray and degreaser but it wasn’t neat.
Glad you're in there after all the shenanigans... it was quite a mission!
Haha yeah it was not a good time 🙃
Wow!!! Amazing 🏠. I'm so glad you finally got your house after all that stress. Please keep us updated!
Thank you! Will do! I’ll be posting videos of the renovations we do :)
Good luck in your new house, we are in a 4 bed detached house but could do with buying a 5 bed detached bigger home, with having 2 kids, 4 cats and both me and hubby working from home. I also store alot of stock at home for my business it takes over our home. It's crazy how expensive it is to move and then paying a larger mortgage :(
Yeah, it really is expensive! We did toy with the idea of an extension but the old house didn't have much space around it and it would have eaten into the garden. We won't be moving again though! This is actually only 3 bedrooms but the rooms are so big, and there are a couple mini rooms, the landings and the space above the garage. We could easily make a 4th bedroom on the landing if needed, or even extend it. We would only look into that if we had another child. Four cats is a lot, wowee!
Literal wow!
I know right, I'm so pleased with this place, we were lucky to come across such a unique property!
SAVE THE TREES
Some of them cover the windows though!
It's gorgeous!! And it's going to look even more amazing!
Thank you :)
Ive had it where the estate agent keeps asking " have you had the searches back" and im like " i will apply for the searches as soon as you take the house off Rightmove". They're actually being very open about the fact they will gazzump you if a better offer comes along
That's madness, with both of us they took it off the market once we confirmed our funds and sent our solicitors details! I wouldnt want to start paying for things like searches if it's still on the market!
@CorinneAtHome I had to stand my ground and tell them to put it back on the market jf the vendors having second thoughts. There was no chain our side so we were in a good position. It was also a difficult market so the estate agents couldn't play the old fear of loss game on me. I insisted they take it off all the portals and have it sold STC on their website before going any further. Everything was fine after that
@CorinneAtHome yeah I told them to put it back on the market if the vendors are having second thoughts. I imagine that's what was happening as estate agents aren't bothered about a few grand here or there. Makes no difference to their commission. I told them straight if they aren't committed, neither should we be
@ did you’ve the house in the end?
@@CorinneAtHome found something better. The positive of having a purchase fall through is you have everything lined up ( conveyancing lawyers, mortgage offers etc). All you need to be able to put serious offers on alternative houses and be in a good position
my last purchased property was this month in Lithuania, I was surprised how easy was it, it took and 3 days from seeing a property to meeting a seller at solicitor, ant it was registered in by property registry within 5 days. now all bill on my name, while in UK I have purchased end of April, still its not on registry list, solicitors are nightmare..... its just crazy... all took so long and then you thing is still not fully completed its hard to believe
Oh gosh that sounds like a nightmare!!! How long do they expect it will take?
Ahhh how exciting though!!! I’d be same not knowing what to do but you nailed it!!
Haha yeah I was just pottering about making zero progress!
The cleaner should pay out of her insurance to put that paint right..not on that is it..i'd be fuming. It's hassle & stress getting it sorted though i understand urgh not what you need when your just about to move
Yeah! It just would have been a faff as we had the paint mixed ourselves like 4 years ago so not sure how we would go about claiming and getting it sorted in 3 days 😭😭
@@CorinneAtHome Could you have a sample pot mixed and just roll over the bleached bits?
@@katbar6066 we didn’t have time as this happened Monday afternoon and we moved in the Thursday 😭
That was really thoughtful of you to leave that moving in hamper for your new buyer! Good luck with the move!
Thank you! Our buyer has been amazingly understanding so she deserved something nice!
This sounds like such a nightmare 🤦🏼♀️ you’ll eventually get there, and when you do it’s going to be great. But all of this lead up is just terrible.
It's been a lot! Just need to get the move out of the way and then hopefully we can RELAX! Thankfully my husband is off work for Christmas when we move so we don't need to rush and sort things out. We'll be taking it slow because I just need a soft life please.
Oh my days this sounds ridiculous, I can't blame you for feeling completely fed up. Paying for good solicitors is worth it's weight in gold, they're worth every penny. When we bought our first home it was an easy transaction, FTB and sellers moving into rented. I chose my solicitor based on the fact I saw her every single week at a business networking event, what I got was the same story being rehashed to me every week about where the process was and blaming the sellers solicitor, then my solicitor stopped attending the networking event. It got to the point where I drove round to the sellers home unnannounced to ask them to sort their solicitor out, thankfully they were in and being the lovely people they were explained how their solicitor had sent the information months ago and had been chasing her up but she never took his calls. Thankfully using that information it made her take action because she'd been exposed as a liar and a fraud, and she had to finish the job so we could move. Far too many solicitors are overworked and under service, whether that's because they don't charge enough, are disorganised or are just useless people I don't really know or understand. Now we're moving house I was dismayed to see our buyer has instructed the same solicitors (although thankfully this woman has since left, I have little confidence their experience will be much better). I've warned my solicitor this time that they are dealing with an incompetent firm. So I sympathise, and don't think you chasing your solicitor harder will have made much difference, after all I was seeing my charlatan every week and she just lied to my face repeatedly rather than take action! You did the best you could, and at least you're nearly there. Good luck!
Thank you so much! It's so hard with solicitors, isn't it?! We picked a local firm that we also did our will with so had a positive experience with them, and our mortgage advisor and estate agents also rated them highly. There are two solicitors they have worked with from the firm in the past and they said they were great (and their trust pilot/google reviews are full of people praising them!). They hadn't heard of the one we had been allocated, despite her being senior. Shes got no positive reviews and two negative ones online... I think you're right that they may be overworked, but if that is the case the directors need to know the impact its having on the service. We felt we had to chase because it would often prompt her to send an email to our seller's solicitor to chase them, and our seller's solicitor was just as bad apparently. None of them did anything unless prompted and were all waiting for each other to make the next move! I hope you have a better time with your sale this time. Hopefully, it'll be a bit easier if it's your buyer as you will be the one doing most of the leg work such as replying to enquiries so can control that a bit more. It took us a day to reply to ours, but like two months for our sellers to reply to theirs! Are you far along in the process?
@@CorinneAtHome Wow it sounds like you've been super unlucky with your solicitor then. I'm a big fan of WFH but you do wonder if yours is taking the mick abit and they're not delivering the usual service. The whole industry needs a massive shake up with the solicitors and estate agents, I think a government supplied online portal showing the current progress on everything would be hugely beneficial to increase the transparency in the process hat is currently so sadly lacking. Fingers crossed it's smooth! We've currently sold, looking for somewhere to buy, did a 2nd viewing of somewhere this morning and potentially putting in an offer on it tomorrow. Somewhat naively if it's accepted we're hoping to have it sorted before the stamp duty increase in the new tax year, as that would add £6,250 to our sale and future purchase if we don't move by then.
@@TomSzczepanski I'm pro working from home as well but the issue we had was she wasn't working standard hours and we just didn't know when to expect her to reply to urgent emails. Or the time we had a phone call from the director as I couldn't get hold of her and the office was on a training day. The director said she was ill so working from home rather than being on the training day, but she told us she couldn't deal with our issue that day because the office was closed for a training day (not knowing I had spoken to the office!) so we just lost trust with her in general. Or when we get emails saying she cant do X because she's working from home, it's a bit frustrating. Working from home should only be an option if your workload/clients dont suffer, in my opinion! My friend recently bought and her solicitor used an online portal which showed the stage they were at in the process. It looked great! I can imagine if that was standard there would be people not updating it though. I think we should move to a system where you do the searches and survey as the seller and can just present the information to potential buyers! Fingers crossed you get your offer accepted and can get the ball rolling - is it the end of chain? Hopefully, you'll have an easier time than us, it seems we just had a series of bad luck. I won't be moving house again after this!!
@@CorinneAtHome Completely agree with you Corrine, if they can't deliver the service while working from home then they shouldn't be working from home, that's not your problem that is their problem. You are engaging the business to sort your affairs, not the person and they have to deliver the service! I own an accountancy business, we are a team of 8 and work from home three days a week and I'd never dare ever to say to a client that we can't do something for them because we're working from home! Totally agree on the searches & surveys, it's just common sense. I think they do something like that in Scotland already Thankfully our buyer has no property to sell and is a cash buyer, and the property we're looking to offer on has no chain too. Theoretically it would be straightforward............ I don't blame you, they do say moving house is the most stressful thing you can go through in life.
I'm so sorry. I am feeling stressed watching, I almost would invite her to stay in that spare room. Can we hope that you will be moved by Christmas? They say buying a house is the most stressful thing you can do. I would just hand it over to the universe & go with everything happens for a reason & if we are meant to live in this house we will.❤ I am also a strong believer in pur thoughts create our reality, hang in there, this to shall pass.
Thank you so much for the comment! I've tried many times to put it out of my mind, especially when I've been at bad point where I've had to try and emotionally shut off! Something always makes me think about it again. It's quite difficult to hand it over to the universe and let it go because the solicitors don't take any action until you pester them so we had to keep on top of things and keep communication to keep things going. The solicitors were talking to us a lot about our buyer and what we should do to push from our end. It's just so frustrating thinking how much time we've lost and the emotional energy spent, not to mention we would lose another £4000ish if it fell through as we still have to pay all the fees plus we have signed my son up to the local school there and done a lot of prepwork so it felt like we had to fight for it as the universe was on holiday or something haha! I'm going to film part two today and publish it on Sunday :)
Such an insightful video! Just found your page and I would be subscribing. I haven't bought a house yet but I'm currently looking to move to a new place (rent) and it's been so stressful! Can't imagine what it would be like when I want to buy.
Thank you! The first time we bought it wasn’t nearly as stressful. Being a first time buyer isn’t as bad because you aren’t trying to sell at the same time and that doubles the stress! I’m sure you’ll have a straightforward time when it happens for you :)
Hi! Thanks for the video. Could you clarify please? Were you able to add a door to garage when it didn’t come with the build design
Hey, yes we could get one. Our issue was that the garage had already been built so they didn’t want to go back and knock one in. It’s easier when you guy a house that hasn’t been built yet then you can customise more. Otherwise they just build them as standard and sell them as is.
@@CorinneAtHomereally appreciate your response. Thank you!
