Pre-clinical Animal Models for OA
Clinician scientists studying osteoarthritis commonly endeavor to choose an animal model that most closely assimilates to human disease to best translate the therapy they are developing in the most efficient and cost-effective way. Correct choice of the preclinical model can mean the success or failure of the therapy as all-to-frequently the therapy fails due to inappropriate modelling of disease.
Understanding the broad questions and considerations clinician scientists should be asking is paramount to successfully developing and optimizing a treatment. Join us for a conversation on OA and preclinical modeling.

So very inspiring! Great effort 👍🏻
The science of cartilage repair and joint preservation is a challenging science. The cartilage surgeons face these challenges throughout the world. However, we are happy to see many surgeons who stood bravely facing these challenges like acceptance to newer technologies, resources, training, industry support, medical fraternity support, gender bias etc. The visionaries of cartilage regeneration have made a difference in the lives of people around them fighting against all odds. We congratulate these visionaries for their bravery, courage and perseverance. Every month, ICRS plans to share one interview bringing a new cartilage visionary to you.
Why is non of these repairs being carried out to other joints like hand/wrist?
Did you find out why?
Not that I know anything, but it seems if you could get a finely minced allogenic material from young cadaver donor to fill in the small gaps between the bigger chips of the autogenic material that would create a more dense fill and possibly a much faster healing time. Possibly injecting TGF-B2 into the joint at intervals would help speed up healing too. I would volunteer to undergo such a procedure. I don't see how any of that could hurt me at all, and the upside is you find a way to help older people -- I am 64, but still active, athletic, and I'd like to get my knee cartilage fixed. (I had an impact to my knee causing a cartilage defect.)
Dear Billy, you need to look for the right doctor and discuss possible solutions directly with him/her. Mayo Clinic for example is doing such procedures. www.mayoclinic.org/medical-professionals/orthopedic-surgery/news/novel-stem-cell-therapy-for-repair-of-knee-cartilage/mac-20450891
we also have a specific section for patients on our website where you can find more information and surgeons of your choice. cartilage.org/patient/
Hey, did you take any steps?
@@piotrgodys4789 Sort of. Been looking for Dr.s but they only do knee replacement. Can’t find a Dr. that does minced cartilage in the U.S. A. Can’t find anyplace to go outside of the U.S.A. either. I think this is all experimental and only a handful of people ever get this treatment.
I need to get my left knee repaired, the lateral condyle, it has a defect I have lived with for 30 years. There is a new method of repair that is minimally invasive, known as the RECLAIM or IMPACT method. Involves mincing cartilage from the defect area and then mixing that with allogenic mesenchymal stem cells and fibrin glue. The procedure involves just squeezing this paste in the defect area. And this is supposed to heal as quick as 6 months, but 9 to 12 months is typical. I need help before this defect gets worse in my older age. I am thin and in shape, but 64 years old, though I do look and feel younger and stronger than most people my age -- I work out, eat right, and supplement. What I am asking is "when" will the RECLAIM or IMPACT system of cartilage repair be available to the public? When will it be "approved" that insurance will help pay the cost of the surgery? Can anyone tell me anything about this? (I Add that it seems even better than the RECLAIM or IMPACT system by itself, would be for someone my age mixing some juvenile minced cartilage to the past to improve repair, and to also add TGF-B2. Don't know that they do that in the RECLAIM method. I don't think they do, but I could be wrong.)
The International Cartilage Regeneration & Joint Preservation Society is happy and proud to present another Focus Meeting that will take place in Humanitas University, Milan, Italy in December 2018. The focus of this meeting is quite provocative: “I am NOT Ready for Metal” and it is on a cutting-edge field regarding current state of art in growth factors, scaffolds, cells and other joint preservation techniques for OA. A topic that everybody will be more and more interested in the near future. The course is dedicated to both basic scientists and orthopaedic practitioners.
Amazing!
