Allen Moe : Artist Talk 2024
Allen Moe lives as close to the earth as possible, often sleeping in the open under the stars. His new work consists of various castings; the waters edge, dried mud, desert plants. The terrain that surrounds him. Constellations are sometimes embedded on the surfaces of these castings. He makes pure hand shaped pots that are saw dust fired. Allen Moe brings parts of this world to us as an artist, an explorer and a scientist, an observer of natural phenomena. As if bearing gifts.
ALLEN MOE: statement on work

Patricia Hagen: Biophilia Walk-Through
Просмотров 219Месяц назад
Psychologist, Erich Fromm, first used the word biophilia in 1964, when he described it as “the passionate love of life and all that is alive”. The concept also includes a great urge or craving to connect with other living things. Patricia Hagen, when not in her studio painting, spends time exploring and hiking near her home on the Olympic Peninsula. She just recently discovered the word that de...
Reflections on Northwest Coastal Art Forms

2nd opening reception: June 1st, 4-6 pm David Hall's photographs of reflections on the protected waters along the shoreline of Ross Lake planted the seed for this exhibit. These photographs capture a visual similarity between the surface reflections and various traditional line shapes created and used by many Pacific Northwest Coastal Tribes, including the formline of the Haida. Hall's meditati...

i.e. is thrilled to be representing Joe Max Emminger and presenting his first solo exhibit with us. You might call Joe Max Emminger a creature of habit. Born in Seattle, he has lived there all his life, living in a neighborhood not far from where he was born. Skagit Valley painter Gregg Laananen, though self - taught, follows closely in the foot steps of the group known as the Northwest School of Art. i.e. is honored to present Natalie Niblack's 3rd exhibit with us. Always a force for the hard truths in this world, Niblack fearlessly steps up to the plate with her often scathing social commentary rendered with incredible technical skills in clay, glass, printmaking, painting and drawing. She reminds us, rather than scolds us. In this exhibit she works with Dr John Bower to produce the 66 bir...

Juliana Heyne : Scenes from the Road

Juliana Heyne has an itch for the open road. She travels slowly and she travels solo. This allows for a deep absorption of a specific place that she has set her sights on. In 2019 she took us to the prairies of Willa Cather., and 2017 she was driving through Iceland. Before that time when showing with the Francine Seders gallery, it was Rome, Chelan Wa, Greece, Alaska or anywhere that caught he...

As rich as the farm fields and as varied as the bird life it sustains and nurtures us. Painters and ...

I especially appreciate the indigenous influences. It's so sophisticated and representationally abstract, with a somewhat African and Polynesian feel. Fascinating how all those diverse cultures produced these related almost graphic styles. The Arts define cultures and creativity should be treasured. Instead, we celebrate some rich guy with a corporation or rocket who means nothing to who we are as a people.

hi @silverglass6635, thanks you for your comment. Yes it is a very amateurish video. Partially by intent. I format my videos after James Kalm, @jameskalm, who I have followed for years. Not polished -but filled with the love of art and curiosity. Although he has much better sound.

A little trick I use to help deal with the glare is that I hold a umbrella (mine is a brown golf umbrella with black fin skeleton) open behind me when I photo or film my pieces that are glazed or framed. Cuts out the light coming into the camera from behind you, yet allows the ambient light to show off the work. It will help cancel out the glare from that area by the front windows. Try it and see, if it works for you, I promise you will not have bad luck for opening an umbrella indoors…lol😊.
