In the standard glasses you can, slowly, empty an entire bottle at once. So it's a good measure to keep the tasting glasses small and filled by the tap. Same taste but you get drunk slowly. 😅 Having some food while drinking reduces the effect of alcohol, as explained by the guide. Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Yes. I managed to buy a crate of la trappe trippel for Xmas. One of the best beers I have ever tasted, but one to sip and enjoy, and not drink too fast. The tour was great. A really lovely place to visit. Thanks for the tip. 😊👍

After the independence of the Netherlands, Catholicism wasn't allowed openly. Though somewhat more tolerant by time, the ban was really lifted in 1853, when full equality was granted, and all institutes and functions were revived. So they started to built churches again, displaying 'We're back!'. A time in which Neo-Gothic styles were very popular all over North-Western Europe. So many cities got their big Neo-Gothic churches from 1860 to 1910.

@@dutchman7623 Thanks for that. That makes a lot of sense. Great architecture and I was fascinated by the gargoyles on some of the churches, especially in Eindhoven.

Guess you were born in Holland and never venture outside. Catholic Church was never banned in the south of the Netherlands. Had they done that the break-up of the Netherlands into Belgium and Nederland would have been an out all war...

@@paulc8799 I am from the south, 's-Hertogenbosch. After the siege of 1629, the four parish churches were confiscated. St Catherine became a pig farm to provide meat for the soldiers who were housed in the confiscated monasteries. St Jacob became a horse stable with indoor cavalry practice space and the monastery also soldiers barracks. St Paul became an arsenal for canons and other heavy weaponry, until fort Willem-Maria was completed and than the church fell in disrepair. St Jan's Cathedral became a Calvinistic church, but because of low numbers of protestants fell in disrepair. All other monasteries, convents, and beguinages were closed or had to die out. No Catholic services were allowed for decades. Only slowly Catholics could come together in hiding, private houses, warehouses and barns. After the French revolution and Napoleonic wars, there was 'relegious freedom', but no schools for priests were allowed, no public display, no bishops. The state provided simple churches, with little or no 'Catholic' ornaments or 'in your face' display. Only after the 1848 constitution was introduced, full equality was established and all Catholic institutes restored. Bishops appointed and an archbishop for Utrecht (1853). Though under heavy Calvinistic protest; Aprilbeweging. And that is when we see the start of this Catholic builders explosion in Neo-Gothic, with statues, mosaics, and stained glass.

well well, if you didn't know ChatTPG (AI) yet, here is what she says about the source of the name of 'Koningshoeven' : The name Koningshoeven originates from the land on which the La Trappe brewery is located. This is an old abbey in Berkel-Enschot, near Tilburg, in the Netherlands. The name Koningshoeven refers to the land that was originally owned by the Dutch royal family. The abbey took possession of the land in the 19th century, and the name "Koningshoeven" was given because the land was initially in royal hands.
