The Steam Deck: A Mac Users Perspective
Is it possible connect mouse ?
Thanks man
still don't get it never filming on a black magic ever again
Thanks)
Good stuff dude. Work in some of your drone footage while you talk in the background 💪🏻
Nice review keep up the good work.
need an um counter
Outdated, file no longer there
this was super helpful thank you!
Is it true that this harddrrive is noisy? If yes, what would you recommend is the less noisy?
it can get loud if you are heavily editing on it, if noise a concern I'd recommend a Samsung T7
the download next button isnt there lol I cant install this
will it work using a Mac studio ultra thunderbolt 3?
Yes should work Or just change the file system of the drive or add a NTFS plugin in Mac easy
@@arghyaprotimhalder5592 what do u mean by change the file system of the drive ?
@@arghyaprotimhalder5592 what’s NTSF pluggin ?
Yes, I'd just recommend formatting it as Mac OS Extended Journaled (Case sensitive)
Great video
I have found it SO MUCH better for film making. Like the color grading alone proves that. Black Magic is becoming better in so many ways. I have found it more intuitive, efficiently and more refined than Premiere. Premiere is so archaic in its design.
I use Resolve for all of my coloring and sound workflow. Premieres timeline just feels better for how I work. Very much up to personal preference.
I agree that Premiere Pro is definitely more refined atm! but I think most might be inclined to use resolve instead mainly due to monetary reasons. Cause a montly subscription might be too much for some (specially hobbyist), and the free version BlackMagic Design's offer is too good of a deal. I agree with the lack of customization, a future update regarding that would be dope. If we talk about shortcuts, DaVinci resolve has some shortcut templates that you can choose in the keyboard customization window. I personally, one thing I dislike about resolve, in the edit page, is the curve editor for keyframes, because it can't be manually scaled, and if you're working with small animations, well... It's a pain in the ass to ease them lol But in the end, I ended up liking resolve more (personally speaking of course).
good stuff, was looking for quick read/write speed info on this specific drive and your review was helpful!
Perfect for my compulsive data hoarding
Because I'm old I thought the orange thing was the original Donkey Kong handheld lol Are you not doing videos anymore? Did you buy yourself a Steam Deck?
How has it been holding up? Any fears of it dying faster than a normal portable hard drive?
It's been great, I even ordered 2 more in the 18TB version. They are superb for media backup.

Nice man its good to see a mac user checking out pcs. Just shows not all of you are fanboys that get their feathers ruffled every time pc is mentioned. As for me im hopeing linux gets more attention and becomes more mainstream because of the steamdeck. Im tired of the dual monoply that is apple and microsoft... i mean chromebooks and chrome box had their chance with googles chrome os but they turned it into a linux based internet operating system that cant do anything without the internet
Why are Mac users so slow
Nice man just subbed
How to download gerfor now ios
People who make these videos and don't do an ounce of research first are hilarious. They get so much information wrong that's been common knowledge from the start. Like the "If it can run windows" remark. It has been said even before the launch that Steam OS runs Linux and the KDE desktop environment. It even said it on the product page
Nice review
Can tell you're a Mac user. Your basic knowledge of hardware/software/technicals is quite lacking.
Starts the video with "Deck is a Switch killer", Mac user speaking. about games... This must be a comedy show...
It can run at higher resolutions (up to 8K technically) when docked, with a performance tradeoff. I guess higher resolutions should give decent FPS with older, less demanding games or indie games. But anyway, the option is there and one will be able to find the balance resolution-FPS that best fits his taste.
Mac user says that steam deck needs windows to be a desktop PC? Really?
The higher price point is $649, not 900. I plan to use the deck for handheld gaming and simple laptop usage while docked (with a mouse and keyboard (either bluetooth or usb in the dock). Can't wait.
Yeah sorry my bad. It's why I put the official price overtop.
first it's not a switch killer. it will not be a switch killer, it does not aim to be a switch killer, and it's not marketed as a switch killer. people need to stop with that switch killer thing. or the "/product-name/ killer" thing in general. it's stupid. valve themselves said it's not supposed to compete with the switch and it's true. other than formfactor and them playing games, the two devices don't have much in common. they appeal to different subsets of the gamer market. those two subsets may overlap a bit, but in those cases people will probably get and use the two devices anyway. it's a pc, it would appeal to the pc gamers more, it's more in competition with gaming laptops than with the switch. it does not need to be a switch killer to be successful, nor if it is successful would mean anything for the switch. nor if it is unsuccessful would mean the switch "won" or "killed" it. also what does being a Mac user had to do with the video, i didn't see anything mac-related, or from a mac user point of view. other than the initial reaction "this thing is stupid (because it's not apple)". and to be honest it didn't have anything interesting also.
Did not read you entire comment, cause I got excited that someone else finally sees the big picture. This is not competition for the Switch. Let's look at the facts, cause the Switch recently hit 89 million Switches sold, and just last quarter sold 4.5 million Switches. That means a device that has been out for a few years is still selling over 4 million devices every 3 months. Compare that to the Steam Deck, cause they have sold around 100 thousand devices so far, and by just selling 100 thousand it has caused orders to be pushed back around a year. That means if you order the Steam Deck right now you may not get it for a year, I repeat, A YEAR. That should tell anyone they cannot compete with the Switch. Nintendo just sold millions of the Switch OLED, and did it in ten minutes, and everybody will get them within the same couple of days. Valve just cannot compete with Nintendo's manufacturing capabilities. That being said, I have lots of interest in the Steam Deck, and no interest in the Switch, and I am not sure why people keep pushing the narrative that the Steam Deck is gonna compete with the Switch, cause they are not even in the same lane. In no way can the Steam Deck compete with the Switch, and I do not understand why anybody thinks they are competition. It is like comparing the auto market with the housing market, cause they are not in the same lane, and are not in competition with each other. Sure they both play games, but that is where the comparisons stop. I for one do not think the Steam Deck will be successful. I think it will be just another great device that ten years from now everybody talks about how great it was and wonders why it flopped. I predict low sales and will be off the market within 18 months. That is just how it goes with some devices, even great ones, they fail. It even happened to Nintendo with the Gamecube. Now the Gamecube is seen as a great device, but it had low sales and failed. It also happened with the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast, Turbo Grafx 16, Microsoft Zune which now lots of people say was better than the Ipod but it still failed, Windows phones, Windows Mobile, Blackberry devices made after 2008, and on and on. So yes great devices do fail, and I think that will be the fate of the Steam Deck, but I still want one. Let's be real, Linux in general has failed, and I think it is either brave or foolish of any company to make a device running Linux, and expect it to succeed.
@@chrisgullett4332 I'm not sure where you are taking those 100 thousand devices sold... Those were the reports from the first 90 minutes and only for two of the models. I'm sure the numbers are a lot bigger. Also Linux had not failed. Linux is very healthy and is continuing to grow... Not sure why you would thing Linux has failed. If anything it's becoming more and more successful every year.
@@IcoKirov No someone from Valve actually posted the sales figures on Twitter a couple days ago. They posted the sales figures for all three models. There as several videos on here just a couple days ago showing the tweet, and so far they had only sold around 100 thousand devices. Yes Linux has failed. Sure there are lots of distros, but as a whole it has failed.
Your closing remarks are on the money: It's a portable console that can play on a big screen like the Switch, but with way better hardware. It can be hooked up to a mouse and keyboard and used as a desktop. It has the biggest game library among all the consoles. Only Windows has a little more It can replace your living room console, your portable console, and your desktop PC except for high end gaming and exclusives. It can replace laptops for gaming.
If the Switch looks fine on a big screen, the Deck will too. It's just that you'll get a lower framerate at higher resolutions, so maybe there will be some very demanding games that won't be playable at higher resolution.
Steam Deck uses SteamOS 3.0, an operating system based on Arch Linux. It has a console UI that is basically the next version of Steam Big Picture Mode where you can basically do everything you need from a game console's perspective, but you can also switch to desktop mode where you can install and run any app that works on Linux, just like any other Linux desktop operating system. The desktop is KDE Plasma (search RUclips to see reviews) which is a mature product that is very powerful, feature-packed, and extremely customizable. By default it's set up to look like Windows 7, but you can easily set it up in any way you want, including a Mac-like layout with global menu and a dock, if that's what you want. While in desktop mode you can use an app called Lutris to install games outside of Steam and to install the clients of other digital game stores including EGS, GOG Galaxy, uPlay, Origin, Battle.net, and the Bethesda launcher. You can also install emulators and play console games on them including Switch emulators. You can also do work. It has many office suits and apps for image editing, drawing, painting, audio editing, video editing, 3D modelling, game engines, programming tools, and lots more. It has just about every web browser except Safari. It's a full blown PC. It just lacks a few apps. You really don't need Windows unless you really need a specific app that you can't replace with an alternative.
What does this first impression have to do with you being a Mac user
really interesting video. shame you can't play portal 2 because you don't know how to move the camera
It is a desktop PC if you dock it and you don't need windows for that it already is a linux distribution that uses KDE desktop environment, so it is a PC, you can program games, do graphic design, video editing on it just like you could on a laptop with similar specs.
It looses the ability to play other launchers tho.
@@thegearshelfOther launchers suck anyways (you can use heroic games launcher for Epic and GOG) 🤪 also with your logic that means an apple sillicon mac doesn’t count as a full computer cuz it can’t play all games?
It runs at 800p. And in reality, the steam deck should be more than capable at being its on pc. Which is amazing!
It Is actually, I'm on my SteamDeck Now hooked up to a moniter, keyboard, mouse, Two External SSD's, three SDcards... It's a hell of a machine. Now with distrobox, you can Co-Install Ubuntu to run any Software from Ubuntu just like it was Ubuntu (or Fedora) without even needing to DualBoot a different Linux Image
you don't know what you're talking about, in general. you don't own a pc, you're not a gamer, shut up kid, your oppinion don't matter.
The contribution Valve has done for linux gaming has also trickled down for Mac users since they're investing heavily into cross platform Steam play, proton and Wine which is the comparability layer to get Windows games running. The Steam Deck will further improve that. Awesome equipment for the price
Agree. Also I had a double take because our usernames are so similar lmao
Good video Mac user. The real catch, IMHO is valve's proton. I have been using proton on Linux (I use arch btw) for quite a while now and it has exceeded expectations. Some games really run better on Linux. However, these have usually required a bit of tweaking to get up and running reliably. This might prove to be a non-issue especially because valve is working on a next-gen update to proton to improve compatibility and also because, like apple, the software is tailored to the hardware, ergo, one fix will fit all.
I'm really interested how they will be able to get proton to work through the cheat software. But all I can say is I trust Valve.
