Tales from the Trail
Добавлен 25 май 2020
Hi! We are a couple from Brisbane, Australia who love to get out there on the trail. We’ve gradually progressed from day hikes, to overnight hikes, to longer multiday/thru hikes. These videos are first and foremost for our future selves, to look back on and relive our adventures. However we hope that you also enjoy them and maybe use them to help plan your own adventures. Happy hiking!!

Salkantay Pass - 2 Day Trek - Day 1 Humantay Lake
HI I am from India ❤bihar
Hey I missed you guys! Great to see you back again , and WOW what an adventure you are on now. Thanks ever so much for letting us tag along on our screens. Be safe , take care of each other and have a great time. 🙂
Nice te araroa as well. Others could be the bibbulman track in wa, the heysen in sa, australian alps walking track. There also is the bicentennial trail or the national trail. ( they have supposely lifted thier game for that on but expect blank spots out of date information wrong contact details for the stations up north. Get some gps points for that 1 aa well before u start dont trust the foundation running that to be up to date. Its longer than the long american trails. Recommend to to jump on the A.A.W.T. after canberra its just better
Thank you! AAWT and Bibbulmun are high up on the list :)
Nice work, guys. Great little video of a beautiful trail network!
Hi guys. Congrats on the walk and thanks for sharing the videos. I am just planning our hike of the GPT for this coming November and would also like to do it in 10 days. So a couple of questions for you: 1. You skipped Bugiga, Yarram and Mad-Dadjug. Would you do the same again, or choose to skip some other huts? 2. Did you organise a food drop between Halls Gap -> Dunkeld? If not, would you recommend doing so? Thanks so much. Greg.
Hi Greg :) Skipping those three places worked really well so I’d definitely recommend doing it that way. It allowed us to build up to the bigger days and enjoy some great camps in the northern section. We stopped by Halls Gap on the transfer up to Mt Zero and left a food drop at the motel. They were happy to hold on to it and then we just topped up with perishables like cheese from the small supermarket there. That seemed to work and it wasn’t such a heavy food carry for the second leg. I wouldn’t have wanted to carry any more food as those first two days out of Halls Gap have a lot of elevation. Let me know if you need anything. It is an AMAZING hike!
Thankyou very much for the info. I think we'll follow in your footsteps. I'm just waiting for the website bookings to open up and then I can start organising planes and buses and other logistical fun things.
Enjoy the adventure!
Some places on earth just take my breath away, this is one of them. (in more ways than one!)
mmm hot chips and beer
Fantastic scenery
Hey, you guys still troopin along . Thats awesome !. Safe and happy troopin you two
Thank you!!! We try and get out for a hike as often as possible 😉
Hi guys. I'll be doing this trek next month. Did you cross the Corindi River (at Red Rock) across from the boat ramp? If you did it again would you still chose that as the best point to cross?
Hi! Yes, a local told us to cross there and it was definitely the safest point. You just follow the curve of the sandbar and there’s a quick deep bit at the end where I was on tippy toes and almost swimming… that was at low tide too. There’s often someone around with a paddleboard too ;)
@@talesfromthetrail2437 awesome! Thank you for that. We'll time it for low tide. Have water transfers lined up for Sandi and Wooli crossings :)
I like it up there
Also did you go to that island that is saw when you were in the boat
It wasn’t an island, just the other side of the river 😁
Hey Mrs Eales it me Lucas and i’m here just to tell you that i went to that exact same place and went to they exact same restaurant that you went to. And that is also where i filmed my speech for house captain. My caravan site was right next to the bathroom and play ground
That’s awesome!!!! It was the best breaky and such a lovely spot. I should have recognised it in your video 😂 Happy Christmas, Lucas x
Great videos, thank you very helpful, doing the wall next May very much appreciated
All the best! You will love it
Well done guys, good trail vid 👍 I did the HWP last year and my own videos. Had a great time! Subbed 👍 Justin
Thanks Justin :) Sorry, I’ve only just seen your comment
im planning on doing this circuit next month, thanks for sharing :) what is the signage like ? is it easy to follow ?
Sorry, I only just saw your comment. I hope you got to do the trail! We used AllTrails so used that to stay on track.
Hi guys. Loving Series 2 of Tales from the trial. ❤
Ha, look at those newbies at the very beginning. If only they knew what they were getting into. :)
I only just saw your comment 😩 I’ve been loving your videos!!
New subscriberrrrr!!! ❤
Well done on finishing loved the videos ❤😊
Thank you 😊
Congratulations to you both on finishing your incredible journey! I have loved following you as you moved south (also watching from Yorkshire UK!) Enjoy your ongoing adventures, I'll be watching out for you!
We headed to the UK after we finished 😊 Hadrian’s Wall was our next hike
Do you remember which day this was? I think I stayed at Fern Burn Hut the same night. I did not walk all the way to Roses Hut though.
It was the 3rd of Feb :)
Sorry, the day to Roses was the 4th
@@talesfromthetrail2437 I took a little clip inside of Roses Hut at lunch und your partner is in it. What a funny coincidence. Congratulations for finishing the trail. 😀
@@Knitschi656 How funny! Have you put the video up yet?
@@talesfromthetrail2437 Not yet and I am afraid it may a take a a few month before I get to finishing it. But I will leave a comment here when it is ready.
Hi both, Congratulations! We have been following your progress from here in Yorkshire UK and loving your adventures! Thankyou for sharing 😊. Where to next?
Thank you! From NZ we went to the UK to visit family and friends there 😊 We hiked Hadrians Wall so that will be the next Vlog series when I get chance to put them together. Back to work this week unfortunately.
@@talesfromthetrail2437 Ah, lovely Hadrians wall. Not far from us! Can't wait to see it. Thanks again for your wonderful TA blogs. I'm sure you had your down moments but you came across as unfailingly positive. As big fans of tramping in NZ, it was an inspiration. Have considered doing the TA many times. Would you recommend it?
@@louiserobinson6840 Absolutely! It was an epic adventure. Both islands were very different. It was more difficult to overcome fear than I had hoped as some parts were really quite scary. I would say don’t put pressure on yourself to complete every inch and definitely ’hike your own hike’.
@@talesfromthetrail2437 That's good advice. Thanks!! We were in NZ for a month last November and did the Queen Charlotte track and the Banks peninsula track. Both Awesome! I am, however also quite fearful of some parts of the TA. Thanks for replying to my messages and all the very best for your next adventure! Looking forward to your Hadrians wall vlog! Take care :)
Well done you two !. Hope you got to put your feet up for a few days before your next adventure started. Thanks so much for letting me tag along with you on You Tube. All the best for your future adventures.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Congratulations Jo to both of you for finishing. Well done and thanks so much for posting the videos. Looking forward to studying them closely before January when I return to walk the South Island.
SI was stunning! We actually missed the most scenic parts 😢 Hope to go back and fill in the gaps one day
Awesome videos, and thanks from me and Dee for saving them for posterity. ❤
It made me a bit sad seeing you guys on those last videos. It was so nice to share that time with you two. You’ve always got a place to stay with us if you fancy a trip to Brisbane. We got some nice hikes! Xx
Congrats on finishing the TA, hope your back in NZ soon.
It’s only a short flight so I’m sure it won’t be long 😊 Plenty more hiking to do!
Congratulations!
Thank you!
Absolutely awesome sunrise and a beautiful looking day
Fish and chips with cider, yum!
Oh hey you are back , I was wondering what had become of you.
We’ve been travelling in the UK and I just didn’t have time to create the videos. Now on a long haul flight so time to kill 😆
@@talesfromthetrail2437 hey no problem. wishing you fun and safe travels always

HELLO MRS EALES HOE ARE YOU
Hi Zane!! I only just saw your comment 🤪
Is this the end? Really enjoyed your journey. Well done.
I’ve got three more videos to make… coming soon I promise :)
Hi Jo and crew. Well done for getting to Queenstown. I flew Christchurch to Sydney last Monday. Still on long service leave from the Army till 27Mar23. It is good being back here in Sydney but I sure did enjoy the TA mostly. Plan to still put up RUclips videos till Day Plus 26. Your RUclips videos are very good. All the best for your TA journey to Bluff. Cheers from Trent.
1:36 Muddy track with tree roots! Is that IRL (in real life) enough for everyone!
4:38 Well earned !!
0:05 What a gorgeous shot that is , what a beautiful day!.
We had some stunning days on the South Island 😊
JUST SUBSCRIBED!!!!
Hi Jo thanks for the awesome video! I've only just watched this last bit and will check out the others (presuming you've done the whole trail). Oh, I'm Andy's Aunties Ailsa in Canada! My hubby and I trekked the Annapurna circuit in 1990. Hope your feet are OK!!
That’s awesome!! Yes, we finished with Andy and Dee a couple of weeks ago :)
Brilliant video - but then I'm on it and very biased. Thanks so much for sharing your memories of the trail. X
Starring role! 🤩
Hi Jo. Well done for getting to Birchwood station. Arrived at Cape Reinga last Thursday week ago on Day 113. Turned around and walked back to Ahipara by Day 115. Caught a ride to Kaitaia staying at the Beachcombers Backpackers. Lift to Whangarei staying with my cousin in Waipu. Bus to Auckland. Flew to Christchurch Staying at my cousins place there. Drove down to Oamaru yesterday and I am visiting my Dad at South Anger Care Facility. Back up to Christchurch Sunday. Dinner with my daughter then fly back to Sydney 13Mar23. Great catching up with you just out of Havelock. All the best from Trent (Trent's Te Araroa Trail Trek Tramp).
Congrats Trent!! Awesome achievement for a bloody good cause.
Yep, I remember looking at the boot and thinking' that's just how i feel - so symbolic'.
