UP 7352 & KCS 4063 lead a SB grainer pass the Woodson Elevator in Woodson, IL. Located on the CPKC Jacksonville Subdivision this track was formerly Chicago Alton/Gateway Western trackage.     What I'd like to have, is a 60 minute compilation of Triple crown roadrailers on DVD or Blu-ray. So that I could view it every so often on my television. I know I have some of these trains on video from both Harold Holmes and Chris Wehman. Who distribute their work thru Green Frog Productions. But nothing is just all roadrailers. You get glimpses of them along with other types of freight trains. Good work on this video for You Tube.

    I was there behind the abandoned Walmart.. it was a blast! then went to see her at the fuel stop in Nokomis..Absolutely a great time! My dad Keith Cearlock is on the Pana historical society who were responsible for the interlock park improvements and moving and restoring the UP caboose that sits there now

    Look at all those fools standing in the gauge before she goes by! For heaven's sake you'd think none of 'em had any common sense at all. Lucky no one got hit, especially that old lady in the white who scurried off at the last second. At least they had some sense of self preservation. That kind of behavior is how people get killed and tours go from being a wonderful time to a tragedy.

    Love the old Jack Line, and how many parts of the Jacksonville to Roodhouse segment still have some of that low ballast feel. This stretch used to be MUCH more washboard rippled than it is now, and it was visibly evident when you drove the original 2-lane US 67 alongside it. One particular spot is now obscured by weeds and scrub, but back in the 1990's along the water plant road, it was entirely void of vegetation and you could still clearly see the different layers of ballast they applied over the years, like the stratum in a rock formation. Moving dirt was an expensive manual shovel-intensive affair when the line was first built, long before economical mechanical earth moving equipment existed. So, it was cheaper and easier to dump rock than to move dirt. There was originally a pretty good dip there. At the bottom were the black steam-era cinders closely following the dip contour, then various layers of the golden Joliet limestone fine ballast that was used over so much of the Jack Line, then the larger and more grayish rock used in latter years. Each layer had a cross-section shaped like a hammock, gradually making the dip shallower, until the track was level by the last layer or two. It would have been fascinating to see a steam-era train undulate over that line back in the day.

      @@StanDrumz when Bartlett Grain was built in South Jacksonville, they rebuilt alot if it to handle the 100+ car loaded grainers. It was in really bad shape before then.

    Have you seen the new Tier 4 locomotives that BNSF will be running soon? They will be more clean operating and fuel efficient for what present is out there. A major step in the right direction for BNSF.

    It's good to see that Triple Crown itself is not gone, just the way the trailers are carried has changed. Those containers look like EMP containers just with Triple Crown lettering put on it.

    Thanks so much for showing the change. They can probably gain other traffic with this service. They do need to learn not to put all those empty cars on the middle of the train.

      There are rules in place that are like "For a train of X feet length the first 10 cars/platforms must weigh at least X tons each" and "cars weighing X tons cannot have more than X tons trailing" and so forth. Intermodal trains are lighter than you'd think and seeing that it is still being powered by a single 4400hp unit makes me think this train isn't heavy at all so it is very much in compliance of train make-up rules. Not quite the same as putting empty centerbeams at the front of a 200+ car 18,000 ton manifest. That's where you run into problems.

      ​@@davidharris2519numerous reasons, the equipment is older, it can be time consuming to put together and demand. The route is changing to KC - Toledo, OH. I assume with containers or flatcars. The new numbers are 251 and 252

      It's literally the only train in the country that still uses roadrailers. No other railroad uses roadrailers anymore, and no other train on NS uses roadrailers. It's not worth the expense to keep using older equipment that by now is non-standard and requires such unique operations and maintenance when it can just as easily run as a regular intermodal train. At that rate you're running the roadrailers just to say you're running roadrailers with no additional benefit. It's easier and more economical to use standard double stack or TOFC service.
