Genius acting 😊what a movie i still remember this from years ago.
A humorously absurd scene that never happened - one of the key objectives of the Mercury Program was to determine how to pitch, roll and navigate (change course) in the vacuum of space. The only thing factual is the astronauts demanding more influence in the design and manual control.
Thrusters
It a shame it’s all fake, and we never went to the moon
Speice-kraft. 😂
Von Bruan "I knew we should have sent up a jimp!" LBJ "What's a jimp" WVB "A jimpanzeee!"
Love those German scientists.
So, pretty much a case of, _"Watch your step, I have a reporter and I know how to use it."_
Its amazing to think that the manual override and the window features they argued for were vital and essential components in future missions like apologise 13 where they could see the damage was done on the capsule and perform a burn without the computer thanks to the window and manual control functions
wow....0:06 look at this baby you know craft
Love this scene. Even though the movie took artistic license for the drama (don't think any German scientists were involved in the original Mercury program), can we at least appreciate the incredible actors? Ed Harris. Scott Glenn. Dennis Quaid. Fred Ward. Add Sam Shepherd & Barbara Hershey, to name a few! Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz as Gonzales? Are you kidding me! What a cast!!!
Space program is a waste of money.
It's Ironic how Gus Grissiom was the one to bring up the hatch with explosive bolts first due to his controversy after his first flight. Gus claimed that in the water, the explosive bolts "just blew" causing the capsule to sink. That capsule was expensive so obviously NASA was angry at him because explosive Bolts just dont blow on their own. A couple years ago however, his capsule was found and determined that the bolts really just blew on their own. RIP Gus
Why is everyone such a douchebag in this clip?
I'm glad the automation is good enough now that windows aren't needed any longer.... I wonder how one of those guys would feel about going up in one of SpaceX's new capsules with touch screen interfaces....
People are so gullible.
this is so stupidly cartoony (IF this is supposed to be a serious dram, i have no idea)....as presented, it's not any different than a Mel Brooks comedy. I like goofy stuff. But is that the kind of movie this is 'supposed' to be?
Wait, Joe Dirt's dad was a fuckin astronaut? Wild.
If we are going to go there, I want a window on my goddamn Prius!
Scientists vs American bullies XD
I haven't seen this film, is this scene meant to show the absurd egotism and dick-swinging of these astronaut characters, or are we supposed to think this was cool? Like yes, windows and hatches for sure, that all makes sense and it's great for them to find leverage to get those things, but the rest? Come on. The gap between how much was riding on the builders VS how much was riding on the astronauts was and is astronomical. The engineers performed far more heroic and astounding feats than these Gomers.
I always wondered why people were suspicious of nerds. Because weren't we obviously the most harmless and good-hearted people? As opposed to the jocks and punks and class-clowns who tormented us and made no effort to please the authorities? I realize now we were only good because in my small town we were a minority. We never had enough lower to show our true character. In the real world beyond the rust and corn belt, nerds are the abusers of 1,000s of people with the stroke of a pen or the click of a button. Our big brains practically guarantee we feel contempt for the bodies who carry out our designs.
Tom Wolfe’s overdramatized fantasy.
I really hope John Glenn talked down to those Nazi f@$ks!! But its movie...lol
😂😂😂😂
NASA run by nazis…
(Disclaimer: when I say engineer I mean the astronauts, not the lab coat guys) Y’all in the comments who’ve clearly never spoken to any engineer in your life: Well in real life they were definitely not behaving this way. They’d be out of a job and replaced with a less rude crew. Like yeah this isn’t kindergarten or a low wage job lmao. This is literally life or death stakes and requires checks and balances between every member of the project. You can’t just go “Wah they were mean let’s get nicer astronauts- whoops they didn’t tell us about the issues and now they’re dead.” 🙄
No one's gonna mention that the scientists were all Germans from well you know!🤣
Working on one. U.S Space Force.
This is the trouble with the transition from sending monkeys to sending men.
This is some pretty shitty acting. Yikes.
Dam sure it didn't go down quite like that
This is the distinctive difference between Americans and the rest of the world. We are willing to take bold risks with practical options. You don't build a spacecraft on a "budget" with "safe" parameters. You build your tools around the mission set and THEN SOME to make sure the task can be done in the most dangerous of conditions.
Vhat's dis German Nazi scientist building the first American space ships? I am shocked.........Well not that shocked lol.
Stupid Hollywood.
I think I will never see this movie based on this clip alone. It's so bad. Are we supposed to respect the astronauts when they're written and played like dumb football jocks dickswinging in front of the people who designed and built the thing?
Comment No.888
that what happens when arrogant idiots design it but don;t fly it
I love how for no apparent reason, the scientists/engineers are wearing lab coats and the astronauts are wearing space suits
Right after this they walk over to the door and without permission they let in the reporters and have their picture taken in front of the "space craft"
It's not a no apparent reason thing, it is a visual storytelling means to instantly emphasize who are the pilots and who are the engineers.
Because it was a photo shot of the Astronauts in front of the Mercury capsule. They went were the capsules were being assembled (secret location). And since they never saw the capsule before they (the film producers) used the historical moment to create this funny scene in ‘the Right Stuff’. The images of the seven astronauts, as they were portrayed here posing in the final moments of the scene, appeared later in real life in Life Magazine and other publications of the Era.
The stereotypes play heavy in the scene, so strongly it makes it difficult to sit in any individuals perspective. Reality would be extremely differential to each set of expertise, no egos.
You think egos don’t exist in reality? Not to mention the astronauts critiques aren’t about ego, it’s about common sense
@@DeathnoteBB That common sense is played into jingoism for the films drama, not a differential exchange of data from specialists in reality, which would be boring and agreeable.
@@blondboozebaron You mean deferential, and again, you’re assuming a lot about the reality of things you know nothing about.
@@DeathnoteBB No, I mean the mistake on purpose. The purpose of displaying the difference of a conversation based on egos.
Through the calves...makes me think
What a bunch of dicks
Fun Fact: The Nazi scientists from WWII helped USA build NASA and many weapon systems.
See NASA... "peep hole matter"
Fucking nazi .
"Pardon me, but are you implying you'll leak classified information about this craft's design to the press? By all means..."
"Why couldn't Hitler be put back in charge of things? Then we wouldn't have to worry about a bloody window!"~😳
When Lori Alan burns to a crisp on the way back down...
be careful you dont make a widow
I don't know the history, but I'm thinking that scene ultimately saved lives during the Apollo 13 mission
