Dave, I just watched your Laguna F2 review from two years ago, and came to your latest video to see if you'd fixed the issue with your audio, and you obviously haven't. You can get low end wireless mic for very little money nowadays, and close micing would sound so much better than the hollow echo sound we get from your camera mic. I also noticed you wander over to turn on the dust extractor in the F2 video. I think I paid NZ$25 for a four way power outlet with remote, and it is a godsend in the workshop. Rob Cosman has one come to think of it. That's for the F2 review. I am doing the same as you, and upgrading from a DeWalt jobsite saw.

Good info. Thank you. Allow me to make a friendly suggestion. You can buy for 30.00 a vacuum outlet .. where you plug your saw and vac into it , it in turn plugs into power outlet. Then when you turn on your saw the vac turns on and off with the saw. Makes life a bit easier.

Dave, I feel that if you add a cyclone separator to your set up, it will catch the large particles do that only the finer particles go to the collection bag. Wood Wolf

Dust collector 101, avoid sharp turns or 90 degree turns. Minimize the amount of flexible hose as much as possible (don't use HVAC). A Cyclone would alleviate for sure, but you can't have the hose like that, hold it up at least, that's just one basic nono. It's not the dust collector's fault, you just need to use it right

Nice to meet you Dave. I just subscribed. I’m looking to upgrade my shop to have some more modern tools and Laguna is high on my list for options. I just scored several Fir beams and was thinking of making a new door system for the front of my house. I need to satisfy myself that a new tool doesn’t become a long standing dust collector instead of generating dust. Do you foresee a lot of use from your bandsaw? I would like to make videos, but need to get use to being in front of a camera and I have no idea how to edit and make them nice, so I feel your pain.

Mark, I am very happy I got the band saw. I find myself using it, at times, rather than the table saw. Seems when the opportunity arises where either one can be used, I turn to the band saw. Quite, safer and easier to set up. As far as Laguna is concerned, I don't know if I like the guides, have not been able to get rid of the sparking completely, am sure it is my lack of ingenuity. Over all though, for the price, I am very happy with it. I called customer service regarding the sparking and they got right back to me with some suggestions which helped. Additionally, I broke a part off the throat plate on my table saw. I sent an email asking how I could buy a replacement part. They called me twice (I never answered either call as I was busy). I then got an email telling me they had tried to contact me, my saw was still under warranty and sent me out a replacement part. They have a reputation for horrible customer service but, the two times I contacted them, they got back to me right away. Granted, my issues were very minor, don't know what would have happened if one of the issues was of significant cost. Hope his helps. Dave

Thank You, David. very informative and well structured for a first video. F2s are really nice saws for the price. A few observations: I noticed, as You lock the fence in place, the far ed of it lifts in the air, which tells me it locks only at the front and not the back. How much does the back deflect when pushed on? Also, to make the cuts even safer and to improve cut quality, I'd lower the blade so that it's only about a tooth's height above material and raise the bench behind the saw so that it serves as a proper outfeed table. Also, consider getting a remote control for that dust collector or a relay that switches it on/off automatically (with a delay). Worse, but still functional - extension cord with a switch under the table saw fence rail that turns the dust collector on. Walking to it to switch it on and off again past the end of the fence rail every time You need to make a cut is just asking for a tear or a bruise. Have You tried rip cutting hardwood of say 2 inch thickness, and if so, does the 1.75hp motor struggle?

I really do not see the fascination people have with Laguna especially considering how many complaints they have against their customer service . For the money the saw is not that great . it has an aluminum trunnion and their motors are underpowered . compare that to the likes of grizzly that have heavy cast iron reunions and waay more power and very good customer service . i bought a 8 " jointer from them and discovered after i set it up that it had a small crack under the i feed table . i took a photo of it and e mailed it to Grizzly . they responded immediately and said they would send me a new machine and pay for the shipment of both machines . all that happened within forty eight hours . i've never heard of any customer that had that level of response from Laguna .

Great video. I am considering this saw. What is causing the sparking again? Is that normal with all band saws?

    • @davidgagne7410
      @davidgagne7410 2 года назад

I have reduced it by adjusting the guides and letting the saw do the cutting. By that, I mean I tend to push the wood through harder than is necessary. By using less force and letting the saw do the work the sparking has lessened quite a bit. I still find it sparks on occasion and believe it is due to the fact the guides are ceramic. However, I am pretty sure a much more experienced band saw user could set this up so there would be no sparking after the guides "break in". Since I don't work with any flammable gases, I have no concerns. Dave

I would use a separator in-between your equipment and the inlet port of the dust collector. This will help in sifting out the very large particles and catch the stuff that is smaller in size.

Hi David, I'm considering the Fusion 2. I've seen some comments on forums saying that some folks are having issues with dust collecting inside the cabinet - though others say Laguna fixed this with the latest version. What is your experience with this? Also, I keep looking for your follow-up video on the Laguna; are you still loving it? Thanks.

Dust does collect in cabinet. I got an attachment for my shop vac with a long hose to reach down to vac out, easier than taking cabinet apart (Lee Valley). Look for my next video regarding saw update.

    • @davidgagne7410

After watching the laguna set up video, I had the blade guides just touching the blade, causing sparks. I then called laguna and they told me to set the guides using a folded dollar bill between guides and blade. This stopped the sparking almost completely. Additionally I tend to push harder and faster than necessary. Have learned to slow down a bit and let the blade do the work.

Had the same issue with my 1hp Princess Auto dust collector and my 16" makita planer. Very frustrating. Removed the cross bars on the intake of the collector and problem solved. Just ensure that you don't pick up any large items with your hose as they may damage the impeller.

Dave, use a paste wax such as Brix on the cast iron top. It prevents rusting and makes everything slide more easily. I use the wax on the bandsaw table, jointer bed, and lathe bed too. I use a dry lubricant on the rest of my table saw and other machine bodies. I just used up some CRC I had, which works great, and I bought the New rust preventative from WD-40. They have quite the extensive line now and thought I would try it out. I'm in CT and I get what you are saying about the humidity. I hate it the older I get, lol.

My only problem with the Quick Change kit, is they want you to have an adapter for each tool you have. There is no reason they couldn’t have made the hose end to fit on a 4” dust port. Other than wanting more revenue from having to purchase more adapters. In the kit there is two 4” adapters. I have a tablesaw, a band saw, and a thickness planer. So I need to order another adapter. And that doesn’t include my 2.5” ports, and how many adapters I will have to order for those. I may just make my own quick connectors using plywood and rare earth magnets. I anticipated the problem you found, where the stringy sawdust blocked the impeller port. I was going to do this anyway, but I added a chip separator inline before the duct collector. I bought the kit from Rockler to build one (@ $30). The cross members are there to keep large piece of wood going into the impeller and damaging it. Rockler is not the only company to have this problem with Wall mounts dust collectors and planers.

I use a 1 hp Delta and it works fine on all my equipment. I would try a shorter length of hose and maybe a shallower cut when using the planer. I would also install a preformed elbow at the collection unit so the hose isn’t slightly pinched. It was suggested to me that I should install an anti-static wire in the run of hose and get myself a remote starter for the collector. 👍👨‍🦳🇨🇦
