    sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do you split it? pretty new to tying and have yet to use zonker strips for anything other than, well, zonkers. Really nice tie btw

    • @bugzinc.7643
      @bugzinc.7643 7 месяцев назад

      Not dumb at all. I take a regulations 1/8" zonker strip and I put the end in my vise, with the hair pointing down, skin side towards me. I take a curved autopsy scalpel blade in my hand and and carefully drag it down the skin splitting it. Xacto blad would probably work just as well. Hope that helps

    • @bugzinc.7643
      @bugzinc.7643 8 месяцев назад

      Thank you! It's going to depend a lot on the fish and the water you are fishing. I'm limited to a single fly and am lucky enough to have some nice bull trout locally, I will typically use 5x. If you are indicator nymphing you can probably get away with heavier tippet and just add some shot

    So why do you tie the strip down near the bend if youve already stabbed it through? I tie my own version of this and its pretty unnecessary for my tie, just wondering if there is a purpose aside from lashing it down. Dont get me wrong though bruv, this is a great pattern.

    • @bugzinc.7643
      @bugzinc.7643 9 месяцев назад

      I do it because the varying skin quality and thickness. I have had the tail break off in the past prior to the fly being worn out. It also gives me a "hard stop" to back the dubbing up to while maintaining a consistent length.

    I was glad that you lost the grip on the pheasant tail . It shows beginners that it happens to all of us . Also mentioning the importance of a uniform body was great . Lastly … if you tie a fly … any fly and when you finish your tie … if you lick you lips … and maybe mutter.. yummm you’ll know the fly will catch trout .😂😂

    Fly fishing is a leader no weight attached! The idea is to bring the fish up in the water column to take the fly not weight the fly

    Serious question, what type of water are you fishing that you need so much weight? Big river with deep holes from a boat? Stillwater? Always like to hear about the applications people use flies like this on! For me, would be far to heavy, but I fish small-medium sized rivers wading. Would imagine some of the big reservoirs around this would excel in especially during the spawns in spring and fall!

    • @bugzinc.7643
      @bugzinc.7643 2 года назад

      Big river, deep slots. These are not a "typical" weight I would use, but some places definately do need this much weight. On smaller water I would definately drop down, or slower calmer water

  • @wvlongshooter3912

    Awesome!!! Thanks fir another great nymph. I’ve done two beads on jig streamers but not on the eggs. Like I said before, I use up to 5.5 mm to get em deep. I have 6.4 mm fir the egg but it’s so big in appearance. I’m going to do two beads for more weight. I’m using the exact same egg material and that’s my favorite color as well. I do good with this material in Fl. Cheese too. This year, in the wild trout creeks, the trout seem to be taking this egg pattern really soon for this time of year but the browns are spawning sooner than normal. It seems I do well with egg patterns around the spawns. Great video and content, thanks, I appreciate it!!!!

    • @bugzinc.7643
      @bugzinc.7643 2 года назад

      Florescent cheese is an awesome colour later.in the season as the eggs wash out the pale colours really shine. Been a good year up here, but the salmon spawn is pretty well over just starting into the winter season, hopefully the egg bite stays strong. Thanks for your comment!
