Thanks for great presentation .Generators with bonded neutral needs to be modified to floating which is required for generlink. Should there not be a concern or worth mentioning Hazard of using extension cords from generator now when generlink cord is disconnected as connection of cord is providing neutral bonding though house panel I usually mark generator with warning for customers (NEUTRAL Modified to Floating do not use as a seperatly derived system ). I am assuming it does .Thanks for the great video much Appreciated Brian

I noticed on the generlink site that many bonded neutral generators are compatible. What happens if you use a bonded neutral generators with generlink?

Works well with the Predator “9500” (7600 continuous) inverter type generator. I believe all grounds are bonded to chassis on that model. The meter box ground runs right down the house exterior so I buff a spot shiny on it and clamp a 8AWG battery cable between it and generator ground. Does not have enough watts to run central A/C, and I don’t use oven or dryer just in case, but has enough to operate most everything else without taxing that size generator too much

Very clear and concise. Tons of insight as how it rarely operates. Thank you!

I use the 30 amp surge protected model of the Generlink along with a super quiet Honda EU6500 generator to supply whole house backup power for emergency purposes. I have a medium sized house and find when I have most everything I want powered on, I am typically using about 3500 Watts of the 5500 available. I used this recently for 117 hours when the Derecho storm came through Ottawa and demolished the power grid for over a week (cost of running was 1 litre per hour). I even ran extension cords to various neighbour's homes to power their freezers on top of powering the house. The Generlink works beautifully but it's an expensive option compared to using a simply transfer switch like a 10 unit Reliance transfer switch, or a simpler power box transfer switch. I previously had the Reliance transfer switch (installed it myself) prior to getting the Generlink and found that it wasn't versatile enough with 10 circuits; nor did it allow 240 Volt power to various appliances. I just didn't like having to pick and choose what switches I could use and not use. I wanted the house to run just as if it was on utility power. Up here in Canada, the unit cost me about $2400 installed including taxes, including a major screwing by Ottawa Hydro utility company of $400 to disconnect and reconnect power during installation. By careful use of the power, I can even run both the electric dryer and the electric washing machine but not at the same time (dryer takes 4850 Watts). The AC doesn't even make the generator pause even a bit...almost totally transparent. It's truly as if the utility power is still on. And the gas furnace runs on a 110 circuit so no problem. I start up the generator, warm it up, turn off eco mode so it runs at full speed, then turn on the generator breaker and the Generlink automatically switches to generator power. Then I turn the generator back to eco mode. I don't bother with the individual home breakers as recommended as the surge is not much of anything and won't trip the generator breaker ever I treated it just like another home reno project and I'm totally satisfied with both the Generlink and especially the superb Honda EU6500.

I looked at the GenerLink which is a great idea, however the cost of $650 ($750 with surge protection) was so high. I went with a 50 amp breaker (in my main panel) linked to a generator through an inlet box outside my house. This was much cheaper.

I believe in most if not all areas this setup you describe would be illegal. If you don't remember to shut off the main breaker the power will back feed into the main grid and could harm electrical workers working on the outage.

Question on turning the house breakers off before starting the generator when connected to the Generlink. My understanding is that all breakers are turned off except for the main breaker? That the main breaker stays on at all times? Is this correct?
