African Materials Research Society

AMRS was formed in August 2000 through a US-Africa Materials Workshop which was held in Pretoria, South Africa. The workshop was co-organized and sponsored by the United States National Science Foundation (NSF) and the South African National Research Foundation (NRF). This workshop sought to explore opportunities for collaboration between USA and Africa with an overarching objective of developing materials research capacity in Africa. This workshop brought together over 70 leading Scientists, Industrial Researchers and Government Representatives from the USA and 15 African countries. This well-able group of experts sculpted a forward-looking sustainable framework for driving materials research in Africa.
Two years later, on 12th December, 2002, the African-MRS was officially launched in Dakar, Senegal in the 1st AMRS International Conference were various world leading experts in the different facets of Materials Science, Engineering and Research were present.

This is great! A nice clear presentation. ALUMINUM BRONZE is a good place to start I think, since the materials are easily had as scrap in a pure state. I've been proposing this as a standard demonstration to give undergraduates in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering. There are a lot of Bronzes! You're a few years ahead here... we might just end up watching these videos!
