This is a spoiler-free review of The Burnt City by Punchdrunk, I saw the Previews on 28th March 2022. Seeing a Punchdrunk show like The Burnt City for the first time

This video is a "strategy guide" on how to have a good experience seeing a Punchdrunk show like The Burnt City or Sleep No More, based on my experience of Sleep No More and The Drowned Man. Here is some advice on how to have a better experience when seeing a Punchdrunk show like The Burnt City. Obviously everything is hugely subjective, debatable, and down to chance, but knowing and doing a few...

The Driver's Seat by Muriel Spark | Book Review
Просмотров 8752 года назад
The Driver's Seat by Muriel Spark is an excellent short story that reads like a psychothriller, horror and literary fiction all at once. In this book review I briefly describe why I think there's more than action to this story, which puts it apart from a conventional story, and as always, avoiding spoilers. Muriel Spark is now in the running for being my new favourite British author, will be bu...

The Three Electroknights by Stanisław Lem | #9 Penguin Modern Book Review
Просмотров 2042 года назад
www.goodreads.com/review/show/4261969847 The Three Electroknights by Stanislaw Lem is a collection of four space-themed fables about why you should not try and usurp the throne! Stanisław Lem is a Polish Scifi writer I've wanted to read for a long time. Somehow, Polish (and occasionally Russian) translations rarely work for me, the English is just too stilted and they feel too cold. It wasn't t...

Is this the lowest rated book on GoodReads? www.goodreads.com/review/show/4260092352 Food by Gertrude Stein reads like it was written by a bad AI bot, except it's not funny. That said, her other books seem to be more liked, so Food might just be a bad ...

this scene really took me aback the first time it happened the first moment i’m laughing my ass off at these prank calls and then it all just comes tumbling down when harry is brought to reality and that whatever past he had left with his ex-something is gone and i just started sobbing. It hurts even more that it’s an “interfacing” check so harry was probably triggering some muscle memory to be able to call his original house number and the same goes for the time harry calls the video store

The moment at the end, when his voice becomes unusually quiet and docile, promising he won't swear... it brings a tear to my eye. Don't get me wrong, I totally understand and agree that his overconfidence is right for him, he obviously has to be strong to handle his situation in life. I interpret the change as him being hopeful of having a little more safety in his life, with this new job. It's like he can finally relax.

Blood Meridian is a pretty smart reference from the Cuno. Maybe his dad had a copy of the book, or he heard the term once in school (something to do with the setting sun, but the book is pretty violent and respected, so his dad might have a copy.)

The new one is just better. She sounds like someone fragile and about to crack, which is even referenced in one of the internal dialogues. Her laughing "at" you also makes sense, when you say that line you sound just like the brute she used to like, the one that was hanged.

Both voices have their own interesting way of the character. The old one really shows that she's mourning and tired of life, which kinda fits the expression of her portrait and what she's been through in the game. The new one makes sense to me because she might be more flirty and somewhat lively, but she still sounds very tired. The new voice also makes her more cunning and manipulative, and fits more voice lines imo
