WINDSURFING WATERSTART : HOW TO GET IN POSITION EASIER AND QUICKER
You can waterstart already but mainly struggle sometimes to get all the gear in the right position quickly after your crash? Then this clip will probably get you a few new ways to get on your board quicker next time!
Filmed by a drone from above I talk you through 3 different positions you can end up in when you crash while windsurfing & explain you how to get the gear easiest in position to get back on your board.
Option 1 : happens a lot when falling off at the end the jibe
Option 2 : happens more often when you lose balance or have a non planning catapult you try to safe.
Option 3 : is a great one for those who are struggling to turn still and want to turn around to the other side.

What Severne Wave sail fits best for which type of riding? Both the Severne Blade & S-1 have been in the range from Severne from the very start of the brand now more than 20 years ago. It has always been a hot topic on which of the 2 sails is the best & which type of sailor fits best with which model. I had the chance to try both the S-1 4.8 & the Blade 4.7 back to back in Cabezo. +1, touching.
Hola Dieter, has probado la Pyro? ¿Qué opinas de ella?
Exceptionally good instructions! Tnx Dieter!🙌🏾🤘🙏
Super thanx
Hey Dieter, nice explanations. I try it with a foill under my windsurf stuff. see you in tenerife :)
Hello, thanks for the comparison!!!! I dying to have a review on the stone model, want to buy a 92L. Can you please tell me some stuff about it? Fast planing? speed, etc....? Have a Goya custom 4 104L and need a smaller one. 80kg and 5.3 sails almost every session. Thanks for your channel.
How far into the wind are you landing? I keep landing nose first but the wind tanks the sail out of my hands. Are you rotating to the point that you're almost on a reach?
hello no I would say roughly 45 degrees down wind is how you land, just remember if on the landing the sail gets to much power to slide your hands back to getter and put all your weight on the back foot so your noise of the board can come back up. If you get controlled with the rotation you can also just a split second before landing open your sail already to avoid the nose of the board to sink to deep
Thanks! Will focus on putting more weight back. I tend to bury the nose too much for sure
😁👍Those Ladies and Gents freestyle events and actions were very enjoyable to watch and put a smile of delight and excitement on my face right throughout the same.
This is amazing, thanks!!! MVP for learning windsurfing
Thank you for the compliment! Glad the tips are helping!
your videos and tips help me so much!! would you consider doing one only on the shove it? seems like you need to know how to do a proper shove it before moving on to shakas or is it not necessary?
Nice one...👍 Got anything in the pipeline for flipping inverted board with sunken sail.. worst case
Hello toby, great idea but currently I don't have this in the planning but maybe in the future! Best out of my experience though is to swim either to the towards the top of the sail & swim upwind with it.. or to grab the board and start swimming down wind with it.. it's when you try to swim against the wind with the board it gets very difficult.
@@dietervandereyken9271 Great videos... 🤙
Klasse tips
3b usually works easier for students i think good job Dieter !
Thank you! Yes I agree, I think 3a is sometimes good in case of bigger sails & issues with the clew sinking under water to often.
Very well explained
thank you very much!
👍🏄Those Wave-board race events were very enjoyable and exciting to watch, and although there were a couple of uncontrollable incidents which had the skilled Windsurfers suffer some injuries I was glad to see and hear them being confident about their recoveries and getting started in the sport again soon.
Your Flaka was well described and shown, and although it's slightly more difficult to perform than a standard gybe seeing it being performed first helps someone learning that gybing action.
Great instructions. Thanks Dieter!
thank you!
Thank you Dieter!
your welcome!!
Great Job Dieter Perfect explenation 👌🤙
thank you!!
Great tips as usual!!🙌🙌
thank you ! looking forward to welcome you in Tenerife next month again!
Nice advise thx a lot❤🎉😊
your welcome!!
Great information about the wave jumps, the importance of sail size/area and your body movements and location and the sail draws to boost the jumping actions.
Thank you! Hope it's getting you closer to landing the Shaka!
Wave boards of course. You ride Scott and Pyro, don’t you? I would like to share your experience with these two.
Hello I’m actually using either Nano or mostly Stone. I have however also a project scott & Pyro. One definitly to add to the list.
El p*** amo. Tremendo buen video brother!
Gracias!!
Angle against wind is key. Always 45 degrees into the wind going up. Make drawings. Cudos for tipping about turning before the wave and moving rig forward against the water.
which one do you think is more suitable for freestyle?
For sure the Blade would be more suitable, if you put a bit less downhaul , let tension of the lower 2 battens (the one around the main window) & tension top ones good to make it duck better. The S-1 for ducking is quite hard, I can do it but with the stability the Blade has & its on & off feeling the Blade will be better towards Freestyle
Hi Dieter, as always very well explained. As a happy owner of Blade your comparison is extremely useful. I look forward to see board comparison ...
Hello Sveto, thank you! Board comparison on Wave boards or other idea's?
Great detail! interesting how you could really see in the clips that you look "undergunned" in the bottom turns with the Blade compared to the S1! Might need to give my quiver a shake up during my next gear update...
Yes I think for you on the lighter wind days in Le Dossen a S-1 could fit a bit better on the stronger wind days you might not need that extra drive especially in Side of so could still be happy on the Blade. Especially if wind is going up & down a lot.. Might need to get you one to try next time I'm around!
This is a bit confusing. I always thought the pressure point of the blade is lower and more to the front. Also pushing down on the board when fully powered to get more control. It would also put more drive on the board. The S1 would have a higher, more to the back pressure point, making it feel lighter and more snappy. So pulling you iup in jumps more easily and rotating (looping) more easily because of the higher pressure point. Making it a bit more nervous, but also more light in the hands. So that is pretty different from what you just explained. Not sure what to make of it 😅
Very good points. Would like to hear the experts on these your points, because I also thought like that 🤔
Hello Vincent, this clip is filled with my own experience and what I could clearly feel when sailing the 2 sails back to back. On the fact of the pressure point towards front or back we seem to be align. Wether it's higher or lower between the 2 sails we seems to be on opposite sides in our experience. From my experience sailing the 2 sails back to back I felt for me the pressure point was lower & further back on the S-1 compared to the Blade yet the most clear thing that indicated that for me was the fact I had quite a bit more drive in the bottom turn on the S-1 compared to the Blade while it also had more grip in the top turn. On forwards for example on the Blade I get an easier better rotation, similar to when I sail my Freestyle sails (the Freek) which indicates for me it should be higher up, Forwards on the S-1 for example I find less easy, backloops are bit easier on the landing since the top can open up better but in general I would say the Blade is more stable in the air. The stability when getting powered up on the Blade I personally would say would come from the 5 batten lay out (more wind range) & more high aspect ratio however I have only tried the 4.7 & normally only sail S-1 so touch bias towards S-1. I hope to give the Blade another go in Pozo & give some further feedback in stronger winds due to the conditions on this day being a bit tricky. What are you riding yourself? And what is the last S-1 you have tried just out of curiosity ? Hopefully I didn't confuse you too much.
Thanks Dieter, I mostly ride Blade.. Added an S1 5.0 last year.. But it's a bit too twitchy for me. I prefer the more solid feeling of the Blade. But maybe it's setup and size will have different impact too. That said, both sails are awesome. Thanks for further clarifying. I should test the same size back to back one day. Just for the fun of it. Maybe some day at a test center somewhere 😄🤙🏻
@@VincentVelema i use both sails for years, and just wanna verify that S1 is indeed way more twitchy, even when you are just going.. . Usually i see the differences in the gusts, rather than the tricks. If i just go with the blade i have really good control in gusts, but a hard time to move the sail into my movement, lets say like a lay down on a turn or wave, while with S1 in identical condition it would be twitchy, but in a wave ride, it would feel so light and responsive to the point like its cheating.
Yes so twitchy is not bad it's just more eager to move around 😄 to each's preference 👍🏻 both sails are 🥰
Excellent explanation at the differences and purposes. Well done !
Thank you!! Was a fun test to do!
Thank you Dieeter! You explain amazingly well the differences <3 Loved it! A year ago got a Blade 4.0 and it is epic - prefer it over my DT Superhero and NP Atlas especially in this size - I love the dacron luff softness as often ride overpowered and it makes it smoother, love how it pulls on forwards and really like its aspect - really manageable in gybes with quite some soft power! Thank you for developing these products!
Glad to hear you have enjoyed the clip & are enjoying the Severne products! The Blade definitely is a great all rounder with a huge wind range!
I have Blades for all except 5,0 which in my case I feel like if it suits better for lighter winds
Hello, i´m not a Severne customer, but i like how you describe the different sails, because also many other sailmakers have the same categories of sails like Severne has. That gives you a good run down how sails in general work.
Thank you! Most sail brands have 2 wave sails at least in there range some even more. When in doubt I would always write the brand itself or even better go to a test center and like me test both options back to back before buying.
Amazing tutorial. The best I've ever seen about backloops.
Thank you! Hope you get them soon now!
Agreed! This is the best thank you for putting it together, alot of fixing to do with bad technique!
Best shaka tips, dieter. One question: I always struggle to get an agresive carving, might it be I have too big straps, or is it a bad technique? Thanks!
I don't think it will be the straps. The moment you carve try to really get your ass low like you would go sit down while also keeping pressure on your base plate by hanging down onto your boom. Also very important is that your weight is enough forward over your front footstrap. If you have any video's please let me know since we can plan in a debrief if you like.
Great. You switch feet before sail, is it ok if I first flip the sail so that I am switched with back foot out of strap, then front foot exit and put the other in the new front strap, then back foot in strap?
Hello Tom, to get more consistend and have more stability at the end it is extremely important to learn to switch your feet before flipping the sail. It will also allow a wider exit for the jibe.
Hello dieter What is your planning for camps please
Hello Fred, all my camps can be found on my website www.dieter-b35.com/windsurfcoaching/ . For improving your jibes both the camp in Fuerteventura (2nd - 7th June) & Rhodos, Greece (9th - 13th of September) . Other camps I do are aimed towards entree of Wave or advanced waves.
@@dietervandereyken9271 hello dieter. Thanks for the feedback. I would like to join an advanced course for wave. I will see your website. Pascal
A lot of this applies to foil jibes too. I was really struggling with the foil jibe until I took a clinic. They told me to widen my jibe and to always look ahead to where I want to go, not at my feet or at the rig. I was pretty notorious for looking at my rig. That's a jibe killer for sure! Another thing they told me that really helped was to keep my weight on the inside of the jibe throughout. Prior to that I would constantly fall to the outside of the jibe and behind my board. I did that so often, I called it the "standard fall". My instructor said to think of it like turning a bicycle. When you turn your bike you lean your weight into the turn, not away from the turn. Also, you look ahead to where you want to end up rather than straight down at the handlebars.
100% correct, with Foil jibing I feel you can go even wider than normal jibing. The one from leaning in the curve is a great on as well, although in the second half of the jibe it just should only be a little bit since otherwise you will carve to much at the end of the gybe which will prevent you from planning out!
@@dietervandereyken9271 That's true as well. It's good to jibe really wide with the foil. The foil goes upwind so well, you don't need to worry about getting back upwind. I agree that you don't want to lean too much into the jibe towards the end, but enough to keep from falling to the outside of the jibe. The thing I'm working on now is carving a smooth radius throughout the jibe. My tendency is turn well enough in the beginning of the jibe, but then straighten out as I go downwind. I tend to keep going straight downwind until the board slows down too much and I can't possibly foil all the way through the jibe. I have the same issue with fin windsurfing.
@@dairyairman where are you watching half way the jibe? Through your sail still or are you focussing on starting to look past your clew? If you look past your clew in the direction you want to go you should be turning well (since your shoulders will open up the right direction an let the rest of the body follow). For the radius the second half of the jibe is always bit wider than the entree since the entree can be quite tight as we in general have more control over the rig. At the entree we are not sailing clew first, you are still in your front foot strap & carrying more speed . I would focus in your next session on looking past the clew at the second half of the jibe & sailing few meters clew first before flipping the rig.
Thank you for the advice ❤See you in Fuerteventura in your camp in June 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Your welcome! Looking forward to welcome you in Fuerteventura & get those jibes dialled in!
Najs & clear. Gonna try these tips!! Thx.
Thank you! Let me know how you get along with them!
WOW what a spot... nice waves and nice sailor. Saludos desde Argentina
Thank you!! Where some really good days!
Excellent video great tips does this apply to side shore wind as well as side on wide?
Hello Brad, thank you. Glad you enjoy the clip. On side shore winds you can't go parallel to the wave but it will still help for Backloops to go a bit down wind before & than take of a bit into the wind to get more control. The little upwind carve will help you to get the board under you and avoid that you are doing any carving on the take of itself which creates a momentum you can't stop.
Dieter has best style flaka have seen ! Nice snappy whip-round 👍
