Trans Morocco Trail - Part 3 (of 3)
Join us on the 3rd and final part of our epic journey across Morocco on the Trans Morocco Trail.
The trail was a wonderful playground for @Bilbo_the_Truck messing around in all sorts of different terrain - desert, rocky hill climbs, sandy trails, mud and everything else the country could throw at us. We had a blast and hope that you enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed making it!
Towards the end of the video I mention the Overlanding get together, Pizzas on the Piste, organised by Mark White of Amazigh Overland (amazighoverland.com). I think the one in October 2024 was the third one he has run and it was one of the real highlights of my trip to Morocco. There is a Facebook page set up for ...

Really an amazing trip and a great job Simon, thanks for sharing it. Just a small practical question about Garmin support: did you have to pay extra cost just for activating SOS and getting this kind of initial support from them ?
Thanks! You need a subscription to be able to use the SOS function but you don't pay extra if you hit the button. I was on a subscription costing £14.99 which I went to cancel when I got home (and was planning to reactivate next time I went away) but Garmin offered a more limited subscription which, in essence, only provides access to the SOS function at £7.99/month and I changed to this plan. I hope that helps.
Thank you again for the wonderful words of truth about Morocco your always welcome to discover more places like this one
Greetings from USA ,Thank you man for showing my beautiful country so amazing I always wanted to visit this back county side, im originally from Agadir
Thanks :-) I spent a couple of days in Agadir on the way back to Europe and loved it.
@bilbo_the_truck Wonderful video. But that sheer cliff at 15:30 has me scared out of my wits. Is there a drive-around or alternate route to avoid that?
haha. It was pretty intimidating but perhaps not as bad as it looked on the video. The driving on that section definitely required some pretty full on attention!
Great video! We met you going south in the Atlas Mountains and stopped for a chat!
Ah, yes. The 2 Defenders, one with the AluCab roof? I found the snow line later that day! Thanks for watching the video.
I loved the adventure and I look forward to doing this soon as well
It was amazing. Definitely do it but avoid the mud!
Thank you Simon for such a well produced film. I plan to do much the same as you in April '25 and your shared information has been most useful. All the best, Toby
No problem Toby. Let me know if you have any specific questions I can help with
@@bilbo_the_truck Thanks Simon.
You’re welcome to explore all kind of terrain historical sites and the empty quarter of Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 it’s an experience of a lifetime never to be forgotten and regretted
Thank you!
Love it,👏
Thank you :-)
مرحبا بك في المغرب ...
Enjoyed your vid, recognised a few of the vehicles at the Pizza's on the piste location. As soon as I saw the cracked dried up mud I thought uh ho.... I never drive on that stuff as.... well you know the rest.
Pizzas on the Piste was brilliant. And, yes, I'll think seriously about avoiding mud in the future !
7:50 the 2023 earthquake knocked many buildings down as well.
Yes, that's what I thought as well. When I spoke to the locals they said that the 2023 earthquake didn't cause a problem this far south. I saw a lot of earthquake damage further north and esp. in Marrakesh though.
Maybe write the sections you covered each day? Nice video! Regards from your riding/driving partner on the sections M and P. ;)
Ah, Rok, how are you doing? That's good feedback, esp. for the people who want to do the TMT. Will try to incorporate this if/when I do the recently published 1st half!
@@bilbo_the_truck Hi Simon. Just write a section near the day. For instance "Day 10 - Section Z" or so. You were lucky you got out of that mud, I wonder if snow chains would help? We've used them on vehicles in military service in mud, not just in snow.
There is a very obvious change in colour of that mud. This is to be fair why you properly check the terrain and walk it first. As I drive on smaller lanes I check the frequency of skid marks, the more marks, the slower you need to drive. Same here, the more "recoveries" the less you should be there. Also think of investing in getting the recovery knowledge and equipment updated, drive slower and lessen the tyre pressures more. but remember the colour of the hard and soft mud. best, not go there at all unless 3 of you in convoy. Good to know the stuff about the inreach though.
Yes, you can clearly see the colour change in the video. The error was definitely self inflicted and could easily have been avoided. I'd faced a number of other potential 'danger zones' over the preceding few weeks which I managed more appropriately. I've been reflecting on why I missed the signs this time and I think it was largely to do with where my head was - being less than 50km away from the end I think I was in the mindset of 'I've got this'. Classic complacency / stupidity but a very good lesson :-)
@@bilbo_the_truck The main bit is you lived, the ability to reflect is great too, yes, there are lots of things you'd do differently now.. It is an art to keep the head cool and focused to the finish line and I'm sure you'll do things differently if a similar situation again. Life has a habbit of teaching you that! :-D For the record, we've all been ther to some extent, so can't berrate you too much for it.
@@overlandready 🤔 Your wisdom has no bounds...🙏
@@ryarob just simple observation, everyone can do it, just need to know what to look for. 30 years of doing stupid stuff also helps! Once in though it's not easy to get out. At least there was no tide to contend with.
great video. thank you. what GPS map-trekking software/device did you use?
Thanks! I used a combination of Gaia as my main solution (I have the premium subscription which was very helpful for offline maps etc). I found this excellent for POIs like fuel stations, water, etc. Also used ParkforNight to help with camp spots. In all honestly it was never really a problem finding a parkup but it was a useful tool for planning. Google maps was often helpful for just general stuff.
@ thank you so much. Is there any where you published your Land Rover build?
Great adventure 👏🏻👏🏻 glad you made it out from the river bed, locals are always there to help ❤
There were moments when I thought I wouldn't get out! Buy, yes, the locals who helped were amazing!

It really was, thank you!
Hi amazing video Do you have the gpx tracks? Ciao
Thanks 😊 Yes I did but the best place to get the whole journey is on the TransMoroccoTrail.org website.
Great video; just subscribed too.
Thank you! 🙏
Great video congratulations on this fun. Sincere greetings from 🇲🇦👍🤝
Thank you!
Great filming! Don't know if you remember, but we met on the north shore of Lake Irigi, my wife and me were travelling in a white VW Transporter, offroad camper.
Yes, I definitely remember :-) I hope you enjoyed the rest of your journey. Thanks for saying hello
wow!! amazing. where can I find gpx tracks?
If you check out the Trans Morocco Trail website you can download a gpx file transmoroccotrail.org
@@bilbo_the_truck thank you!
@@federico9229 www.bumabuma.nl/motor/zumo_xt2_tmt.php came recommended by the authors of the TMT on their FB group. It's a tool created by a member of the TMT FB group. The advantage is that this tool retains the original icons, whereas other similar tools remove those.

Estupendos paisajes y estupendo video en general, sobre todo por el buen gustocon los temas musicales y no caer en exceso en la tediosa musica marroqui.... que aburre a las piedras
Hi, I sent you an email. I'd like to talk about a few things with you. Cheers, and thanks a lot!
فيديو جميل سيارة جميلة و انت اكثر، مرحبا بك في المغرب
Thank you!
What a great first video. I like your hanging table set up. I have something but it’s a bit too high, do you mind me asking how yours connected to the wing. Cheers
Thank you 😊 It’s actually fairly simple to do. The hinge for the door uses two offset hinges and I added two of the female hinge parts on the side of the truck below the cabinet at the right height to work/cook at. Then all that is needed is the right length steel string to hold the door in position to make a table. I’ve prob made it sound a little complicated but will share a photo next time I am near the truck.
That’s great thanks very much. Safe trip 👍
those landscapes looks great
Brilliant! Can't wait to go in 25, your breakfast looked delicious, what was it?
Porridge. The breakfast of kings 😊
Great film. Looking forward to Part 2.
Great video and thanks for sharing!
