Hi @TF-cc5zp. That is an excellent question. NO. Dry ice is a hazardous material that requires proper safety handling equipment. Packaging a shipment using dry ice requires double packaging. First is the styrofoam where the shipment and the dry ice will be put. It needs to be closed in a way that would allow the dry ice to vent the carbon dioxide as the dry ice melts. DO NOT TOTALLY SEAL IT. Sealing it without ventilation may cause an explosion. The second packaging is the cardboard box, which is also taped with proper ventilation and proper labeling following international shipping regulations. Depending on the travel time, the dry ice might need to be replaced on its voyage stopover.

Hi Coronette Deegan. Thank you for this very good question. I did a RUclips video on Shipper OWned Container ( SOC ), You may find it on this channel. The shipper has the option to buy the container but it should be done during the planning stage of the shipment as it will also require certification and equipment arrangements. Deciding in buying the container after it has arrived may cost a lot of detention charges. Shipping SOC requires loading and unloading equipment at the origin and destination, which might be costly especially in remote destinations as one has to factor in the transportation cost of the crane or heavy-load forklift. Another option that I offer our client is to use the regular shipping method and buy a locally available good quality empty container that is already in the Philippines, which we also offer. This also allows time to preposition and make improvements to the empty container in your Philippine property. Please contact me for more specific and detailed ideas for your relocation planning.

Thank you for your comment @Shaunte017Shaun. As mentioned and explained, balikbayan box shipping is encountering UNPREDICTABLE delays. It also encouraged everyone to ship early. No balikbayan box company, for that matter, would like any Christmas balikbayan box not to be delivered for Christmas. Giving deadlines just encourages PROCASTRINATION, wherein the majority who use that deadline would send their balikbayan boxes at the same time, overwhelming the system. Besides, no one can predict the UNPREDICTABLE delays as shipment turnaround can go from 30 to 55 days from most parts of the world, sometimes over, to be delivered to the over 7,000 islands destinations. Since the viewership of the internet is worldwide, with different sailing times and situations, it avoided specifying shipping deadlines that can be misleading. I hope I was able to answer your comment and motivated our kababayans not to wait for the last-minute deadlines.
