Endorphin trimaran 4
Moving the motor inboard.
The original construction with the motor on a beam out to one side was a ‘quick fix’ to just get the boat on the water and see if a lot of other parts would work reasonably well.
There were a few issues with the motor out to one side of the main hull.
Having the motor inboard has solved most of these.
Keeping in mind that this is a power boat with sail assist.
The propeller works far more efficiently in the water now.
The fuel burn economy is better. Depending on the wind strength; I use about one litre of petrol per hour; so it is quite cheap fun!
The motor does not get as much spray on it. Which is helpful.
The boat is a bit longer over-all now; so a little harder to ...

Modification - Wing added to stern of centre hull. 4.2 metre , single seater, bi-plane rig with a 3 hp motor. This summer 2015-2016, I have made a modification to Endorphin; attaching a wing to the stern of main hull. This small modification has worked better than I had expected. It helps lift the stern on a reach; which was the intention, but the surprise was that it works very well downwind. ...

Never seen a biplane trimaran before. Nice idea, the width of a tri gives more separation to a cat.
one of the most beautiful small trimaran, i ve seen !!! congratulations
thanks for sharing the process :) i am building a small 15 ft catamaran, that will sail on engines, but i want to make it all flat on the bottom so i can go i shallow waters. any videos about flat bottomed multihulls ?
Interesting, picklefork.
Hola russel me encanta tu diseño y te felicito...vos tenes planos del trimaran ?gracias...soy de argentina
Love it, no nonsense, simple and effective. 👍👍
А почему центральный корпус плоскодонный, а не округлый как у поплавков?
Niusawa sa niusawa gah qo
Isaaa I was form 4 at that time when our friends from Scots college and queens Margaret from nz paid a visit to bucalevu...dua gauna yaa,,,loloma yani
Wow. I have the same idea of using 2 windsurf sails sailboat. The goal is to make moving the boat around easier also reduce heel effect.. So great to know that I am not alone Thank you very very much for sharing this!
There are many Australian multihulls in particular with only two front sails, often windsurfer style rigs. Agree it should be simple to operate and keep the center of effort and heeling forces lower.
How much by the planes?
Why two sails side by side? The leeward sail is shadowed much of the time.
At those speeds the apparent wind is so far forward that it's only on a broad reach that it becomes an issue.
What is your cruise speed with and without wind assist?
William. I have not measured any speeds. Don't have any instruments onboard; GPS etc. Wind assist kicks in at about 10 knots of wind speed, when the foil lifts the stern and then the boat speed increases by about half as much again.
I like how you moved the motor forward. I take it that this is for better balance of weight distribution.
That's a beautiful boat :)
How did you attach the wings to the bird body?
Small hinges probably
What’s the chances of getting the plans ..... would love to build one for NZ waters 😀
Can any one what school is this

Great speed! Although I would really have liked to see her sailing without engine... also, adding a kicker to that sail rig would help a lot going upwind! Nice build, congrats!
Very beautiful build and ideas!
I think our Fijian Itaukei teachers should teach our young girls the I taukei ladies dances...seasea, vakamalolo. these are pure itaukei dances which tourists love. Please enough of the island dances, they aren't our traditional dance..
Proud to be a Bucalevuan scholar!!!!❤️💕
Jeijei!! Raica! I'o form 7 na yaba'i cava??
Why are you using a stinkin' gas burner on such an otherwise eco-friendly boat?
Especially as she sails so well.
Wow. . . She shore motors along . Like your design and rig . A great success.
I was married at those falls
When are you going to incorporate foils on the amas and rudder like Kettermans trifoiler? Big SMILES would scream from your face! Ha Ha
great boat. Does the 2 sails result in higher speeds? Have you measured your speed in knots?
what a very practical and well thought out design, I watched all 3 videos and subscribed, hope you do more.
+Robb's Homemade Life. Hello Rob, I have had such fun in this wee boat. Done lots of sea miles now. Just love motor-sailing in her. The wing on the stern this summer has been great.
Looks like a bit of South Island ingenuity!
soo sweet. many smart solutions. like your boat. built my amas in similar way :-) Chris. www.Chryz10.com
Well...that was cool
Great looking boat, well done. Looking forward to some sailing videos! Length? Beam?
William Fraser Thanks. I have had a lot of fun in Endorphin this summer. Hope to get some video from another boat soon.
