Endorphin trimaran 4
Moving the motor inboard.
The original construction with the motor on a beam out to one side was a ‘quick fix’ to just get the boat on the water and see if a lot of other parts would work reasonably well.
There were a few issues with the motor out to one side of the main hull.
Having the motor inboard has solved most of these.
Keeping in mind that this is a power boat with sail assist.
The propeller works far more efficiently in the water now.
The fuel burn economy is better. Depending on the wind strength; I use about one litre of petrol per hour; so it is quite cheap fun!
The motor does not get as much spray on it. Which is helpful.
The boat is a bit longer over-all now; so a little harder to ...

Modification - Wing added to stern of centre hull. 4.2 metre , single seater, bi-plane rig with a 3 hp motor. This summer 2015-2016, I have made a modification to Endorphin; attaching a wing to the stern of main hull. This small modification has worked better than I had expected. It helps lift the stern on a reach; which was the intention, but the surprise was that it works very well downwind. ...

Never seen a biplane trimaran before. Nice idea, the width of a tri gives more separation to a cat.

Wow. I have the same idea of using 2 windsurf sails sailboat. The goal is to make moving the boat around easier also reduce heel effect.. So great to know that I am not alone Thank you very very much for sharing this!

There are many Australian multihulls in particular with only two front sails, often windsurfer style rigs. Agree it should be simple to operate and keep the center of effort and heeling forces lower.

Why two sails side by side? The leeward sail is shadowed much of the time.

At those speeds the apparent wind is so far forward that it's only on a broad reach that it becomes an issue.

  • @williamfraser

What is your cruise speed with and without wind assist?

    • @russellmaxwell8166
      @russellmaxwell8166 4 года назад

William. I have not measured any speeds. Don't have any instruments onboard; GPS etc. Wind assist kicks in at about 10 knots of wind speed, when the foil lifts the stern and then the boat speed increases by about half as much again.

I like how you moved the motor forward. I take it that this is for better balance of weight distribution.

I think our Fijian Itaukei teachers should teach our young girls the I taukei ladies dances...seasea, vakamalolo. these are pure itaukei dances which tourists love. Please enough of the island dances, they aren't our traditional dance..
