The British Method of teaching a Gundog pup hold to hand delivery. Complete video! #hold #retrieve
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.6 месяцев назад
The British Method of teaching a Gundog pup hood and delivery to hand. This method completely utilizes positive reinforcement and I have been employing it for over four decades now! Even though this method can be used on all dogs, it’s most rewarding for those who own very sensitive dogs; and want to avoid the negative consequences of force fetching. You can start employing this method with you...

why are you waiting this long between asking questions and advertising?
Thank you for watching and for the question. I was trying to match up the voice over with the CC, as the video was also published on a couple two other platforms, without the voiceover and they had background music.
Is that a German Schnauzer mix?
Thanks for the question! Possibly. I’m thinking, Schnauzer/Dachshund mix. He and his littermates were rescued at a very young age, approximately 4 weeks of age. They were found in a box beside a dumpster. We adopted him when he was approximately 8 weeks old.
Thanks for watching our video!
Cute
Thanks!

Excellent video
Thank you!
Thanks for watching our video!
Very nice! I never understood why everyone seems to think that the only method is Force Fetch - this proves there's more then one way - and this one is so positive for both dog and handler! Nice work!
Thank you!
You really need to show this method on a puppy. Your dog is well established doing these behaviours and I suspect you didn't use this method on them to achieve this drive. Most likely an ecollar.
When I have a puppy in for training, I’ll make another video. Most pups I’ve trained over the years have been trained this way. This pup’s drive and desire to work and retrieve is all natural. If anything, he’s more patient and waits instruction/permission now. You can never force drive into a pup. It comes naturally and enhanced by careful, positive training. Go back through my videos and you’ll see this same dog working and retrieving as pup, 7 weeks to 8 months.
I'm so glad I stumbled across your videos. We have a lot of trainers in my area but they're all focused on good citizenship or agility training, which is fine If that is what you need. My 2 labs love retrieving but greatly need work on the mouth to hand part.
Do a quick search for gundog or retriever clubs in your area. I’m sure you can find someone who can help you in person. Best of luck!
Negatory Ghost rider…. Open your backyard swimming pool!
Cooling down a dog too fast with cold water can cause serious health consequences.
The dog thinks he is helping the human by making them stand in the shade to cool down.
The dog’s welfare is always my highest priority.
Very good way to train, similar to how my dad taught me.
Thank you for watching and your input.
I’ve been looking for a video like this!! Thank you 🙏🏻
Glad it was helpful! Let me know if I can be of any help to you and your pup!
Ran across this video randomly just now and thank you! I have a rescue lab mix who would love to start retrieval and this definitely helps start somewhere! Nice video and beautiful dog!
Thank you for your kind words and appreciation. Let me know how I can help you and your dog with your training!
@@toddwharvey thank you!! I appreciate that! I’m going to take a look at your channel and see what I can start implementing sense I wanted to try a few new things. I appreciate it and I definitely will! 😄
nice work
Thank you, @fidiusjwhoopie !
After growing up in rural England with a gun toting father and two black Labradors, I’ve now found myself in rural Spain with a Cane Corso. The people around me think that I’m a magician, (the way I train the dogs). Not really… I’m just really used to treating dogs with love, care, respect and kindness. I love my dogs ❤
Thank you for sharing, @oceanosurf8534 ! Sounds like your early exposure to training and working with dogs, made a positive impact on your training methods today!
Okay, but you forgot to tell us how to put in the effort, what specifically do I do to put in that effort
Thank you for your comment, @ColtShawn. ruclips.net/video/A7tGIP-c12g/видео.htmlsi=5ROI_4lwLM6FEagT The effort is the work you put in. Getting your dog to consistently recall, takes time, patient and dedication on the owner/trainer’s part. I recommend keeping your pup/dog on lead. Use a location/area with minimal distractions. Ask them to recall (here/come). If needed, only repeat the command no more than once. Help the dog physically recall to you. Please reward them. Whether it’s with a treat or affection. Do this several times. Take a walk. Do the recall exercise again. Take them for a walk. Do the recall exercise again. Also, keep your verbal commands to a minimum. Sometimes, the more your verbalize to your dog, the less they respond to you. Do this exercise two to three times a day. As your dog progresses, you can work on the same exercise in areas with moderate distractions and eventually progress to areas of major distractions. If your dog has poor recall, and it’s been going on for a while, it may take two to three times that length of time to correct it. I hope this helps.
@@toddwharvey thank you, this really helps me understand what to do
Recall is the most important training. Everyone thinks sit and stay are. And they are important, but recall is even more so.
Brought it back beautifully...❤
Yes! Thank you for the compliment!
And looks proud to make that retrieval. Beautiful form.
Thank you for the compliment! He really enjoys being out in the field!
He/She is beautiful man lol 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! Smaller framed Labrador male, weighs 65-68 lbs.

Dark as in the sky? Or dark as in the atmosphere?
That 7.3s beautiful
Thanks!
I love your doggie keep up the good work 😊❤
Thanks! Have a blessed day!
I'm working with my cat, and getting him to disregard distractions. It's not easy, but he adapts to new situations like a champ!
That dog has more necklaces than Mr. T
If you Treat your dogs well and Hunt only what you will eat, as a woman who doesn't eat meat, I can't bitch. And My goodness, you are polite... you Take care too.
Thank you! Have a blessed day!
@twendellharvey you too. Many so-called animal advocates eat meat they buy wrapped in plastic wrap from their local grocery store. In reality, those animals lived a miserable life and suffered a painful death. CAFOS and factory dairy farms are some of the cruelest places on the planet. A clean shot, where the buck, wild boar, duck die immediately is far more humane. Killing elephants, lions, etc reprehensible. Trophy hunting pisses me off big time. God doesn't dig irresponsible stewards. What you do to my least, you do to me - Jesus Christ
GOOD VIDEO ......
Thank you!
Bro what.. I’m not doing all that… Just train with positive reinforcement when they go outside..
Thanks for your input. Sometimes, it helps the pup/dog if they have their odor in a given spot, to go to and eliminate.
Great video Todd, thank you!
You’re welcome! I hope everyone is doing well!
I like this technique and use it with a 4 month old ACD. So necessary and best to start sooner rather than later.
Thank you for your feedback!
I have a German short hair girl named penny and that puppy looks very calm. Unusually calm for a puppy. I hope she\he is ok ❤
Yes. This particular GSP is very calm when working in the yard with his obedience. But, once he’s out in the field, he searches for game with tremendous energy!
Bro I thought the dogs head was one of his boots and that it's fur was the gravel for a sec
Yes. I see it from your perspective! The young German Shorthair blends in with me and the gravel on the thumbnail. Have a great day!
She a love doggie she a Sadie Sadie married lady..
Nice!
Thanks!
Nice video!
Thank you for the compliment! I hope this video helps you with training your dog.
Nice Video.
