Any settings to be able to increase the difference between the highs and lows of the section of map taken? Say if its relatively flat, you could make it more hilly, or if something has drastic changes in terrain that you could make it more flat?
Maybe add chapters to this video?
Good idea! I will add them later today
Great video - quick question for you. In Google earth, do you have to define the state with the polygoon tool or can you just select the state somehow with the borders in Gooogle earth?
Reminds me of when a Japanese Gundam model builder got his hands on a piece of large-diameter acrylic tubing. He built his own version of a cylindrical space colony and used a technique similar to that to print the cityscape inlays for it.
Also would you be able to explain how to make and extrude lines (say for example the chair lifts of the skihill you printed?
Excellent video! Would love to see your cityscapes tutorial too. Keep up the great work.
Thank you! I recently posted it here! ruclips.net/video/WsMZS-s5CHw/видео.htmlsi=JhWgdkSphcOHpTRA
@@3dprintyboy Thanks! I saw that. Looking forward to diving in.
NERRRRRD
Thanks!
Lincoln Nebraska
👌
hartford, ct
Good idea!
Toronto
Toronto would look great!
You should print Sydney
Oooh good idea!
Badass content man. Maybe think about something space related like planet surfaces or functional solar systems.
Thank you! I’ll see what I can come up with!
Hurricane utah
Sounds like an interesting place!
@@3dprintyboy it sure isn’t. All it’s known for is sadness and animatronic performance.
Reminded me of gta hud
This is great thank you
I am happy to hear you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
@@3dprintyboy you are welcome.. Had never tried printing cityscapes, I will need to seek for your contact for assistance soon...
Now this is cool.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Inkscape does not offer the option of dxf for export.
Nevermind. I found that you cant do it as export. you have to go to file, Save as. Then you can choose DFX.
but the dfx file created by this method only contains one layer.
@@goodash1 yes I have just found the same with Inkscape. Guess it only works with Illustrator
@@goodash1 Thanks for sharing. Admittedly, it's been a while since I have used Inkscape. In this case, you may need to save each feature as an individual file and then save each one as a DXF.
@@3dprintyboy thanks, I'll give it a try.
The Cityscape Tutorial has been published! This one is quite a bit more involved, but the results are so satisfying! I hope you enjoy! ruclips.net/video/IiQwUcPOVfs/видео.htmlsi=80CCWzsVY9aitQlJ
If your going to keep with the ski resorts can you do Vail in Aspen Colorado?
This is awesome, definitely gonna be using this to print up some gifts
Thank you 🙏 Glad you enjoyed it!
When will the new video come out?
Very soon😌
Could you do a Route or path like hiking path in state park?
Yes, I will be posting a tutorial on this later today!💪
@@3dprintyboy awesome
What program are you using to do that 3d modeling in your mac and could you please tell us your specs? The cpu and gpu and ram please
This is created using Blender and a plugin called BLOSM! The Mac has 16gb ram and a 1tb ssd, but these specs aren’t necessary!
@3dprintyboy that's impressive man! Lol sorry to be a stickler but what was the cpu and gpu u were using? Kinda taking stats to improve a process of my own, I use sketchup lol lmao
First
Never heard of touchterrain, exactly what I was looking for a while back. For anybody who uses Blender, I was able to use it with the (native) 3D printing extension to fix the non-manifold geometry, sliced fine after that. Useful video, thanks
Great tip! Thanks for sharing!
Nice work! I'm thinking about handpainting my project, rather than doing the AMS approach for color. We'll see lol. As someone else suggested here, I would love to see you publish the Fusion file for the frame! :)
Pro tip, you get better quality and a larger map by tipping it upright at a 60 deg angle. The Z axis of a printer has the lowest resolution because of the discrete layer height. Tipping it will take longer but the higher terrain resolution is worth it.
Great tip, thanks for sharing!
City please
Awesome to see so much interest! Stay tuned!
Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Awesome video I’ve been wanting to do this for a while and would really love to see a how to on city maps. Thank you for sharing your work
Glad it was helpful! City map video coming tomorrow 🫡
Really cool!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Custom city scapes would be great.
It’s great to see so much interest!
hah, I was specifically hoping to see city scapes here. :-D
Coming up very soon! Monday at the latest!🤝
Love the video, keep up the good work.
Appreciate it! Will do!
How many 3D printers do you have?
Some number in the 20’s😅
When I got to the touchterrain site, it says "This page can't load Google Maps correctly."
I have run into this periodically as well. In this case, the search function will not work properly, but landing around the map interface and everything else should work 100% as expected!
That last one😩
Tip: Heat them up to get it off easier
In my experience, it’s the opposite. Cooling it down makes removal easier😬
I’d be too scared it would crack lol
This is why i 3d print. Learning new things. Thanks not only for video but also for posting on makers world. 😊
@@BradRemillard No problem at all, and I am happy to hear you appreciate the efforts! I am glad to share the little bits I have learned with the community!
4 hours doesn’t even sound that bad tbh
bros printing the world chunk by chunk
💪
where is the train map? maybe dont use AI for auto-generating subtitles if you say 2 sentences in a 30 seconds video. its not that much of an extra work to type them yourself. same for the "3d terrain map" translated into "3d tree map"... what a shame to upload such bad quality content.
@@hito1988 Is everything okay at home?
Thanks for the feedback 🫡
Thank you - this was very informative, direct to the point, and will certainly be on my to-do list!
@@tim71291 Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for this! This will be perfect for some gifts! Any chance you could share the parametric file for the frame?
Great stuff! Currently creating part of the Swiss alps for my grandparents. And would love a city map tutorial as I'm living in the Netherlands without a lot of mountains! Love the stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it! I bet that will look great and am sure your grandparents will love it! Working on the cityscape tutorial now! Hoping to get it out today or tomorrow!
Tick tock. Where is the city map. lol. Buying an A1 today. So hoping the city map tutorial comes out soon. Thank you for the work.
@@petera1117 Sorry for the delay! The city map is a little more involved so the video is taking a bit longer to produce! I will have it out asap! Stay tuned!
Would this work for places like lakes and its surrounding areas? I would like to make one of Pueblo Reservoir in Pueblo, CO
The cityscape method will be best for that! Working on a video for that now!
i think your terrain map might be a bit off cause mt rainier doesnt lok like that lol
Idk, it looks a lot like the map to me!
@@3dprintyboy the peak does not stick up like that, if i could post pictures here i would show you lol
Mt. Fuji. That would be GORGEOUS!! :D
Great video, id really like a video on how to make a city map, thanks
@@MrRazer1978 Thank you, glad you liked it! I will be working on that next 🫡
