Have you completed an upholstery project on your boat or are you planning to a complete an upholstery project on your boat in the near further? Leave me a comment...
Just watched this and Part 2. Did this work well?
It works fabulous! My bilge never has any water in it and that was not the case before installing the dry bilge system. It pumps it all out. I have it set to run for 3 minutes 3 times per day with 6 hours in between each run. The timer will let you set all that.
So glad to have joined this club and met such wonderful people! Looking forward to more adventures on and off the water! Be Well, Melissa
So great to have you aboard and look forward to more adventures...

Love your channel will you guys be at the Sailboat Show in a couple of weeks in Annapolis? Also what year is this Catalina?
Yes we will be at the Annapolis Sailboat Show. Maybe we can meetup. Dream Weaver is a 2004 Catalina 387. Thanks so much for following us.
Hi Tony and Kathy! It was great meeting both of you yesterday. Are you on Facebook or Instagram? We are looking forward to your travels.
It was Great meeting you guys yesterday also. If you happen to be interested in meeting people and the sailing club the sailing club is having a get together at Mulligan's on highway 17 close to cricket cove Marina at 12:30 on Saturday. Let me know if you guys would like to go and I'll save you a spot. We'd love to have you and let you meet a couple of people in the selling club.
Thanks Richard for your insights and following. Keep watching for what happens next and what the real issue was which is not in any manual but we expose the flaw.
Your don't learn anything from this video. Poorly done. Read your manual or better yet take a Yanmar engine course avaiabele at several locations.
Thanks Richard for following and your insights. Keep watching to see what the real issue was that we revealed and is not in any manual. After consulting numerous diesel mechanics and boat enthusiast no one had the answer but we finally found it...keep watching!!
I have the same model Catalina and have found the same issues seating the strainer back in the Perko body. It usually takes a few tries to get the strainer to seat. The top of the strainer handle usually drops to the water level when the proper seating is achieved. I'm not sure I saw that in your video. Maybe yours is slightly different than mine. I never use tools to tighten the wing nuts, fingers only. As long as the rubber gasket compresses, the strainer won't leak. The location under the mattress in the main cabin is a problem when cruising since you need to dismantle the bedding to get to it. That is also a good time to check for water or debris in the Racor primary fuel filter bowl as well. I always remember to close the seacock while cleaning the filter, but it seems to me the top of the filter may be above the water line. Next time I clean mine I'll experiment!
Great to meet another Catalina 387 owner. You are right that strainer is a bear to seat but I am sure the more I clean it the easier it will be to get it right. Thanks for following and I hope to meet up somewhere along the way.
We are still at the planning phase. I love the Catalina 380's but my question is, do you have enough storage? We are probably pretty close in age and errr dimensions, so I'll be curious if this is enough space for you. I like the Catalina 42, fewer stairs into the cabin and a nice big hatch.
Yes the storage is pretty good. I have friends that have been living on a Catalina 387 with their teen age daughter for about 4-5 years and they have loved it.
Where do you plan to sail? You certainly have enough diesel cans. I wonder how 400+ lbs of diesel setting on the bow that far above the waterline would effect the sailing (I'm not a sailor, just curious how it would change the experience).
That is a very good question and thanks for asking. When we purchased Dream Weaver I sailed it from Port Charlotte, FL down the west coast of Florida through the Gulf of Mexico, through the Keys around Miami and up the east coast of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina staying off the coast of Ga and SC as much as 100nm. The trip was 755km in 5 days and just in case there wasn't any wind the whole trip I wanted to have enough diesel to make it. Now only four of the diesel containers are full but the empty ones are hard to store on the boat so we just left them stored on the deck empty. The marina we are at does not dredge enough for us to make it to the diesel fuel dock so we fill the diesel containers and put them in a dock cart to take them over to the boat. We plan to sail long distances next year and will need the containers again. The Catalina 387 weighs 19,500 lbs empty so the 355 lbs of diesel doesn't really effect it at all. I hope that answers your question and thanks so much for following us and your interest.
If Catalina gave the lining crack a thumbs up that would be good enough for me. Funny I lived right around the corner from the Catalina factory and didn't even know it till the Fosters did a tour.
Yes it has done well and hasn't really changed. I plan to fix that at the next haul-out. Thanks for following us.

Thanks for following us, hope you enjoy the episodes to come.
You could have a motorhome and have to deal with the monotony of the road, idiot drivers, stop signs, red lights And enormous fuel consumption And settle for KOA campgrounds. Or you could set the autopilot, kick back, burn very little fuel if any, anchor in any protected cove you can find for free. I know which I would rather do..
Thanks for the comment and boy do we think alike...thanks for following us and hope to see you on the water.
Greetings from s/v Dream Weaver of Biloxi, Mississippi. Catalina 38.
Thanks for your comment and thanks for following us. I would love to see pics of your Dream Weaver Catalina 38.
There is no way I would have purchased that boat in that condition.
Thank you for you comment and subscribing to our channel I understand your concerns. Keep watching you might get surprised as the journey continues...
Some larger Catalinas (e.g. 470s) have a an inadequate surface weld within the rudder on the rudder post. A few boats have lost their rudders as a result, one while in mid transit in the Pacific.
Thanks for the info and thanks for following us.
So you are crawling all around that boat lift. Who inspected it?
Thanks Jake for your concern and comment. The boat lift was really nice and very secure. I wish I could have purchased it also but I didn't have a way to transport it or a marina that would allow it to be installed.
Three digit boat model names were built in Florida. Two digit, California
Thanks Paul that's good to know. Yes it was built in Largo, Fl.
We are close to entering the stage of life and pursuit of a sailboat as you. Out of curiosity, where do you plan to sail from, to, etc?
We are planning to sail up and down the East Coast and to Florida. Then to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Keep us updated on your boat search maybe we can buddy boat together. somewhere along the way. Thanks for watching it gets very interesting soon.
What's with the loud music when your trying to listen, pointless
Thank you Tom for the feedback. Keep watching as we try to make the channel better with each episode. We welcome your feedbwck and hope you will subscribe and keep watching to help us improve.
It’s not a map. It is a CHART
You are correct I stand corrected.
I am Basic Keelboat (101), Basic Coastal Cruising (103), and Bateboat Chartering (104) certified and none of them make me a competent sailor or ensure I know how to sail. Knowing how to navigate on paper charts is essential to plot a course accurately but I doubt taking this course and gaining this certification will ensure my competency .
I agree Vincent it all comes together when you can apply the book knowledge with actual experience.
This video really got me excited and not in a good way! That Florida broker broke so many rules regarding the deposit! My husband and I are local boat brokers and could not believe they planned to take a deposit and not refund the entire amount if the boat was not satisfactory upon personal inspection. The process typically is to make an offer which when accepted, the 10% deposit(fully refundable pending personal inspection, survey and sea trial)is then wired and holds the boat for you. I wish you were using a buyer's broker to protect you during this transaction, it doesn't cost you anything and your broker would be holding your money in their escrow account.
I agree wholeheartedly but it is so hard to find this type of boat that they knew it wouldn't last. We had 5 different brokers looking for a boat for us and none of them came up with anything. I just happened across this one on Yachtworld myself. It is a crazy world with boats and real estate now. Thank you for your comment and for watch the show.
a boat or big boat can be a real pain and owners don't even know what they are getting into. You have to be willing to jump in the water and clear an anchor with sharks. You guys have done your research so you are not going into this blindly and you are to be applauded. Ok, well the sharks thing, ha ha ... not so much but you have to get wet from time to time and clear de-anchor
You are exactly right. A lot of newbies purchase boats because they are pretty and not how functional they are or if they will fit the bill of what they actually need. I am trying not to make that mistake. Thank you for your comment and subscribing to our channel...glad to have you aboard!
Such a pretty boat!
Good thing we get to sail with Jason and the Elan!

Oh man, that was a great trip! 🙌
Yes it was and one I will never forget. Plus I got new family members out of the deal.
insane 💪
That one was one to remember. The camera had stabilization built into it so you can't really see how rough it was. That Catalina 387 handled it great!
Dope
Thanks glad you are watching.
That was awesome and I see you were making huge way with only the head sail. That sail is very powerful as you have found out. We dropped the hook one night at Southport during our moving the boat from Virginia down to here.
The Catalina 387 in this video belongs to my friend Matt Foster. It is a Catalina 387 2004 hull number 40.
Your boat is parked In between the seas the day and blue cobia and you were chillin at the flotilla Christmas parade at the end of the dock
It was great meeting you and the boat parade was fabulous. Glad to have you on board.

Hey Tony 👋 this was a great passage with you! Congrats on all your next steps!!
You guys are the best... Kathy and I consider you guys as family. Safe travels and we will do more together.
The US Coast Guard Auxiliary also teaches navigation courses. Locally they are night courses in a classroom so you get all the instructor interaction you need. The cost is in the $30-$40 range. Good for you to take the course. Now buy a chartkit for your boat. A chartkit book is much easier to use that full navigation charts simply because it is much more compact. Personally I can't imagine going out on the water without the ability to read charts and navigate. Of course the college I went to college had marine navigation as a required course series. It is also useful to learn how to use your radar as a navigation aid since radar will give you both bearings and ranges to things. So a radar bearing on a buoy will tell you where you are.
Excellent information Todd the US Coast Guard Auxiliary has great courses as well. We do have the chartkit and you are right it helps a lot instead of all the individual charts. Thanks for watching.
