Is the other side the same process?
@@christopherstrope8901 yes exactly the same process it’s only changes when you actually need to replace the complete axle but since we are just changing the boot it is the same on both sides
@@mobileblinks4762 thank you
It's best to just get the quick strut.
DO NOT try this at home. File this under "just because you can, doesn't mean you should". This represents a serious accident waiting to happen.
How much did newsom charge u for that job? lol
I was cringing the whole time. But that really does seem to work well.
Very impressive
dam its beatiful
Genius Genius Genius
I would talk shit but that's pretty slick, I've done it a lot sketchier ways but that's pretty smart. I would suggest a 4x4 wood block with a V cut in the center to try to prevent the bottom from kicking out but your idea gets the job done. We've got a wall mounted spring compressor but we rarely use it anymore since the price of quickstruts is so cheap now and you get a new spring, bumpers, billows/sleeves, and a new top bushing/bearing with new studs. As a mechanic I don't make as much labor off of it but it's much easier to do.
Good one!
Brilliant. But I don’t have a truck !
My hitch to ground is 11.5”. My strut is 24.5”
@@stoveguy2133 then use your brain 🧠 Put a 2x6 piece of wood and jack it up 24”
Brilliant idea. Just built a strut two days ago and boy am I afraid of those spring compressors.
Smart dude
Excellent method
🤯
That's faster than using the spring compressor tool! I guess I'm going to sell my spring compressor tool. Awesome video, thanks!
Legit internet repair hack!!
Excellent man very smart and easy way to do thanks will use this method from now on
Dude, that's impressive. I've done a lot of those, that has never crossed my mind
Killer idea, thx for sharing 🍻
Wow!! and I was going to spend $50 on set of spring compressors...when I can just go out and buy a big work truck instead!!! 😃
YEY-EAH!!! Just like this, or any version of this, I love!!! Spring compressors don't always work either depending on the spring's shape and design. I'll admit, Ive had hacks for those types of springs, but something like this is wayyyy better.
Wins the Mac Gyver award.
after you see the student driver sticker, it all makes sense. if that thing slips out, your going to get a broken leg
So much faster! Only problem is I need to buy a truck now 😃
Impressive! Thank-you partner for sharing this trick.
I know that place real good me and my other mechanic budy camp out there a couple times a year and go to the track and slash x so peaceful out there 🍻🍻🍻
Excellent. Long time mechanic, this is smart.
Pure Genius! Thank you!
So all I need to do is buy a $40K+ truck instead of a $200 spring compressor🤔
@@vudunof that’s why I mentioned this is only if you don’t have the tool obviously you weren’t paying attention

Nice tip man, this is the reason I ended up selling my compressor as well!
That is awesome 👌
Aweome workaround. Thanks for the tip. 😎👍
Apparently no one in the comments has any clue how dangerous this is. A friend of mine lost most of his thumb when an ATV spring slipped, imagine what a truck spring might do smh
@@drewnicest4319 well my friend apparently your friend is an idiot lol and this is not dangerous at all unless you are an idiot
This is far safer than a spring compressor.
@mobileblinks4762 I have seen people use spring compressors incorrectly, which is far more dangerous than this method, even if this were to slip, the hitch and the ground would absorb the majority of the hit. But no matter what method you use,use common sense and you will be fine,if you are not sure, than have someone else do it. This is actually a pretty slick method.
Dang bro that was great I mean I have no words ingenious
Genius sir pure genius.
Fricking genius, lol
Brilliant! You sir win the internet.
Damn sweet idea dude! Good job!
Sweet. Thank you.
Wow this is literally much faster than having a spring compressor. Smart man 👍
Yaaaassss genius thanks
Genius
How come you only have one hand Billy?
Lost it on a camera accident!
@@rickl7024don't say accident in a spring compression hack video
Waiting for the next vid where the bottom of the strut slips sideways and he shows us how to remove a coilspring from his forehead.
@@johnsullivan6709 well stay tuned buddy
?
I was wondering if anyone else had considered the bottom slipping. Possibly worth the risk if you're desperate, but I'd make a bottom fixture if I were doing this normally (like a flat plate with at least several inches of perpendicular tubing welded to it).
😂@@mobileblinks4762
@@mobileblinks4762 To make it safer attach a short safety chain from the bumper to the coil with a clevis. Just in case there’s a drip of oil or water underneath. Awesome idea though, you know there will be a lot of people trying this idea. I’m subscribed.
Truck $50k Jack $100 $50,100 to change out the coil spring
Brain Freeze 8^)
This is also like 10x faster than a commercial strut compressor. Good stuff!
Dang dude that’s a hack and a half!
