New York City Streets & Books
Добавлен 20 апр 2008
NYC enthusiast and author of Unknown New York, from Workman Publishing. I'm also an artist and the leader of the Central Park Sketching Meetup. I've lived in New York City for nearly 20 years, and in that time I've managed to squeeze a lot of books into our tiny apartment, and to learn a lot about the city. I'd love to share both things with you. So we'll go on some bookshelf tours and share book reviews. And we'll go on city tours, too, looking at some of my favorite streets in New York. I hope that you enjoy the journey!
I Ranked the 100 Most Famous NYC Landmarks! How many do you know?
I'm convinced New York City has more well-known landmarks than anywhere else in the world. Let me prove it to you! Watch the video and see how many you know!
All of the 500(!) photos in this video were taken by me. I hope it makes you want to visit NYC!
Also, I wrote a book! It's kind of the opposite of this, as it focuses on lesser-known hidden gems in the city. Check it out here: www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/jesse-richards/unknown-new-york/9781523524112/

thank you for your beautiful video, what an interesting diverse street, Audrey.
Fun!
Hello everyone I love Lego and so do you
I would like to recommend Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir…the story is awesome in and of itself but the way they handled one of the characters is so good…iykyk
Great list and wide variety! I did not know that Rachel McAdams did voice work and will certainly check out the audiobook. Thanks for the video!
What a fantasy to live there❤
The Park is a Fool's Paradise. Whenever I pass, and I do not live there, those inside the Park looks like privileged peacocks, just ripe for scorn and ridicule.
So you ranked Market Street above Cafe Corner? Huh...
I am looking forward to getting my copy!
I would love to know what it cost to live there when it was first built ..? Were they condos , co-ops or just apartments….??
Apartments. Plus one building was a hotel. Later, in the past few decades, many were converted to condos.
Why was Pet Shop at the bottom?
Unfortunately something has to go at the bottom! But really I love them all
Finally, a good list of graphic novels that are right up my alley. Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
I always love seeing people talk about experimental comics. I don't care if people find a lot of this stuff "gimmick-y". Gimmicks are cool!
That was really fun, Jesse. I hope you and the fam are well. I truly enjoy your discussions and perceptions. Best, B.Walker
Thank you so much! Hope you're well!
Wow! What a great collection you have! I had no idea how beautiful the off brand blocks could be! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
August Rush is one of my favorite movies. You should try to watch it.
I'll check it out!
what are those white buildings in the back? omg they are absolutely beautiful
With the purple flowers? Those are the Garden Street houses - #19-21 on the list. You're right, they're great.
Love your reviews! Im trying to decide between detective office, police station or jazz club rn… thoughts?
Thanks! The Police Station was definitely one of my favorites, can't go wrong with that one!
❤🌹👍🏻
😍😍😍😍
Amazing video!
knowledge is Power.
I don't focus on the colors of the facades as much as you do, which is partly why my ranking would be very different. But thanks for the video.
"PromoSM"
This is an amazing collection. They look so pretty. Shows how much effort and attention to detail went into building this colorful and vibrant city. I learned a lot about off brand Lego. Thanks @jessekalim!
5:40 Fun Fact: Due to a rise in popularity with cars in the 1950s, diners made their signs and buildings very colorful and big to attract drivers driving by.
You're right, it was a big part of Googie architecture. The sign was historically accurate; I just didn't like it.
My grandfather, George J. McNamee, managed Tudor City when it was a hotel back in the 1930s. Unfortunately, he passed away when I was a baby, so I never heard any stories from him about his life back then. My cousins inherited all the photographs of he and my grandmother from those years…would love to see those old photographs! Granddaddy was good friends with Mr. French (I remember Nana calling him Freddie). Thanks for this video!!
Cool to hear about - glad you liked the video!
4:28 This is where Stanley Kubrick was born! ❤
Really? cool!
@@jessekalim What's your favorite Kubrick film, if any?
@@emmarose4234 Probably 2001. You?
@@jessekalim Dr. Strangelove. But 2001 is adorable too.
That's awesome. You're so talented. Loved your work!
I love how this man used LEGO to capture the beauty and essence of Central Park. (Liked and Subscribed)
Wow, this LEGO Central Park is incredibly detailed and impressive!❤
The level of craftsmanship is impressive. You should be proud of your work! God bless you bro!
This is so creative! I never would have thought to build Central Park out of Legos.👏👏👏👏
I love how you incorporated different elements like the horse-drawn carriage and musicians.😍😍
Thank you! Yeah, at first I just had the park by itself but I think the figures really add to it.
@@jessekalim True!
This is amazing! You've captured the essence of Central Park perfectly.
That's so kind! Thanks!
As a New Yorker, I can appreciate the attention to detail. Great job!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Great video!
Very cool. I love the murals; nice touch!
Thanks so much!
Congrats you have the original Parable I didn’t know it’s that big I have the smaller version I’m living in denial anything that large format by Moebius is going to command $200. Tom Kings The Vision from 2016 is one of the greatest ever written it’s better than The Watchmen if you understand existential philosophy and Shakespearen tragedy it COULD be one of the greatest films ever but Disney would have to keep thier grubby corporate “diversity inclusive “ paws away from it they’ve already destroyed the MCU after Avengers 2018 it’s all a sick joke . 🤮🤡
Speak of the devil - Silver Surfer Parable : author Stan Lee artist MOEBIUS 👑👑👑
Nice collection I’m blessed with a Folio Society trilogy of Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials - a scathing critique of religion but in 2023 I’ve witnessed transgender “secularization “ and long for the better days of Gothic cathedrals and the Catholic Church .
very different perspective. I love that it's very personal and you're not afraid to go against convention. I also have bought off brand stuff. "Brick Me Up Scotty" is my go to, for odd stuff. I have the Post Office but have not built it yet. I also got a Barnes and Noble with a Starbucks!
Thanks, glad you liked it. I looked at Brick Me Up Scotty and it's great, lots of cool stuff. Thanks for sharing it!
@@jessekalim he's a great resource especially for 'different' things.. I have found his prices fair and shipping timely. I have bought about a half a dozen things from him. Plus, it's literally a mom and pop company. (His schtick, in his videos is uniquely him, but he's objective and fair.)
I just got into comics/graphic novels. I’m 29 and my father in law lent me his Kingdom Come graphic novel and I’m in love
Kingdom Come is the best! Keep going!
@@jessekalim so I just bought Watchmen. And plan on reading next week. I find my self wanting to buy DC Rebirth, Batman/The Flash: The Button and then Doomsday Clock!
@@seththomas6727 Enjoy getting to read that all together for the first time!
@@jessekalim yea I’m excited! I just finished Kingdom Come, God I hope James Gunn makes that into a movie! Started Watchmen today and so far I’m loving it.
@@jessekalim have you read or heard of the Superman action comic book warworld saga?
What's your experience on the General Jim's and other alts?
I think they're great, especially General Jim's. Less expensive and still high quality. Sometimes the instructions are weird for different brands, but haven't been a big issue. Take a look at my modular ranking video to see more!
These videos and topics may be so overdone and simple but I just love hearing peoples top anything
They look nice. Where did you buy it?
Mostly from Amazon!
It looks so pretty and cool
The models are so perfect
Great video. I really get the sense of scale of NYC... it's huge!
Thanks, glad you liked the video!
I have never heard anyone pronounce joralemon like that. I grew up there 🤣🤣
Haha that's great. And I checked several places online, too. How do you pronounce it?
