The best thing about this dish is the sheer versatility of it; there are many other ingredients to consider. Potatoes: Adds wonderful texture. Jalapeno: Adds kick if desired. Tomato paste: Substitute tomato sauce with this if you want thicker consistency. Beer/whiskey: Adds a smoky flavor. BBQ sauce: Instant flavor injection Bacon: Who doesn't like bacon? You can use the grease to sautee the veggies. Mushroom: Adds a nutty flavor and acts as a thickening agent.

To those who may be wanting absolutely no added sugar or derivatives, sucrose & sucralose are made from sugar (& possibly other substances?) & in places like Canada it’s legal to say no added sugar when these are used. In my opinion this is very misleading. Always best, of course, to read the ingredients.

I've found that it tastes best to use the best ingredients one can afford with this dish, (like Heinz, and Campbell's, and Daisy) rather than the generic products, and I usually mix the sour cream in with the initial ingredients, but regardless, whatever you use will still taste pretty darn good.
