Tom, when I met Nann, I was not looking for anything. Intuitive, I had this number at last 30 years old in mind. But I have no problem to talk to someone younger. We started out as friends and grew closer over time. Our first encounter ended with me thinking: Oh, that is a nice and cute one. Would be nice to meet her again. My 30-year number comes from thinking that younger people are just not responsible enough. Looks I was wrong here. To stay in Thailand has its ups and downs. Here you have the family near. @ThailandLifestyle the responsibility regarding young Thai people is a bit convoluted. Young Thai men are generally less responsible than young women. That's why so many single mums here. Usually they are responsible for the upkeep of abandoned babies. Daughters are also more responsible for their elderly parents. Somewhere below them in the pecking order is the elderly faring husband. You and me. I feel ok with this , like they say, blood is thicker than water. I have children from my previous marriage and they're placed the highest in the pecking order too. I love my wife and vica versa,but the concept of love is different here than in the West. In the West it's more romantic to start with. Here love can have different connotations. In its purest form, it's more like mutual taking care, with different duties attached. Loyalty, fidelity, respect, knowing your place in the set-up are parts of the whole. The word love is still used by both according to their own cultural traits. I have to add,perhaps reluctantly, because some people think being transactional, the money aspect.Good thai wife material women still consider money as an aspect of love. They're very pragmatic, rightly so. Who likes to be poor? I don't have any problems with this either. In fact I prefer to be the "bresdwinner". I'm no good domestically.

Very well summarized! You obviously have a long experience and an analytic mind! We not only learn words from our parents, we also learn the meaning. This is why the word love, said by different people, does not have the same detailed meaning. I am well aware of this, just like you. And the stability we bring into a family, as well as our age, brings respect. To live 600 km apart from this family, gives me liberties I appreciate. My children never visited Nann's family so far. There is not much interest from their side. They do know and appreciate Nann quite well. They know that Papa is looked after, which gives them peace of mind. Anton, it's difficult to remember all the funny situations. Usually misunderstandings are not bad but funny. I did start to learn to read Thai, but I didn't get too far. You can only read a Thai word if you know it. As you might know, in Thai language they write the words without spaces. Therefore, you only know where the word ends, because there is no word with the next consonant added. When I came to Thailand, I even needed a Thai when I wanted to eat Tom Yam Gung soup, to tell me what you can eat and what not. In this soup they put lots of things just for the taste, but you cannot eat them. Anyway, I will keep your suggestion in mind. We will travel to ChaAm today, for a few days.
