Skip the Lake Tahoe Crowds! Solo camping in the Lakes Basin
Просмотров 924Год назад
Follow along as I explore one of my favorite camping spots in California. There's something for everyone here - camping, hiking, swimming, fishing, kayaking, mountain biking, or just sitting around at the campsite soaking in all of the beauty that the Lakes Basin has to offer!
Thank you for the great video!! What is the spot at the end of the video where people are jumping off a rope into what looks like cenote?
Thanks for watching! So the sites shown at the end of the video are bits and pieces from our trip through the Yucatan (which I was too lazy to make a video for). The cenote you are referring to is Cenote Oxman, located just outside of Valladolid. The wild guy doing the backflip was my buddy Jamie!
@@thewanderingfooz I give him a 10! The cenote looks amazing! I’ve been researching and it looks like no cenote’s in Las Mujeres, would you agree?
@@chasityrocha2186 LOL! You're correct - no cenotes in Isla Mujeres, but you're surrounded by beautiful blue ocean! 🤙
@@thewanderingfooz yes!! Can’t wait! Thanks for the info!
Subbed. This is my dream car but my partner wanted a brand new car for camping :/
Hello Sef! Well, there is something to be said about the practicality and the amenities that a modern vehicle offers, such as comfort (A/C, smoother ride), reliability/safety, and fuel efficiency. That being said, I've never been a practical person! 😅 Thanks for watching, and we hope your camping vehicle serves you well!
@@thewanderingfooz yeah. We got the new gen ranger xl. I will still get this someday. Looking forward for more episodes 😁
that be funny
Can’t hear the voice over through the music. Sorry.
Actually, we APPRECIATE your feedback! Thank you for taking the time to watch and give us tips to improve on future videos. I sometimes get caught up in the music selection and forget how monotone my voice is and how it can get lost into the background. 😅
We’ve had such good luck with Mitsubishi cars, we are on our eleventh🥳 Can’t wait for you both to take us on your next venture Thank you
Ron! We have a good feeling that this Mitsubishi will treat us well (keeping our fingers crossed!). Good to hear from you, and thank you for your continued support! - Ken
What an awesome introduction to the Bishi Beast! Can’t wait to see more of it!
Thanks man! Looking forward to doing a joint video with you soon!
Thank you for sharing the delicious views of my favorite "home town" .
Thank you for watching, Mikio! I hope we portrayed your home town in the right light. It was a pleasure meeting you during our road trip! You'll definitely have a cameo in our Joshua Tree video in a few weeks, but we included a split second of your van in our latest video, which was just published! Safe travels!
Where is that alley at 10:41??? I looked for it but did not find it.
Visit the Beautiful Islands of the Philippines!
The Philippines islands are definitely on our list of must visit places! 🤙
What a great video… My son and I were there December 2023…. we stayed six nights on Hidalgo Street at Buccaneeros….. we rented a golf cart for the entire stay…. I woke up this morning enjoying a cuppa coffee went on RUclips and the algorithm pulled up your video….. ❤❤❤❤❤ if I could jump on a plane right now… Lol great vibes…. Shine on ….!!!!
Thank you SO much for watching our video and taking the time out to leave such a nice comment! Reading this is a GREAT start to my day! Cheers! 🤙
Is there just an "open to the public" section of Playa Norte? Or do you pick out beach club to get a spot there?
Everything is open to the public, but the loungers and umbrellas are beach club property. There were plenty of beachgoers that simply laid out their towels and brought their own food/refreshments... and saved a bunch of money. 😅
My wife & camphost at a campground just below the LBR, near Downieville. Our second home. Unrivaled beauty without the Tahoe crowds.
Truly a magical area. Love the campgrounds along the 49/Yuba River. You are a lucky man!
Philip and I took a day trip to Isa Mujeres a couple years ago, when we were staying in Riviera Maya for our honeymoon. Such a beautiful place!!
Yes it is! And thanks for taking the time out to watch! ❤️
@Rosabellefarmer what Hotel did You stay in Riviera Maya ?
Cerviche in the begining?
Yup. Had it pretty much every day!
Love that stuff fir any meal

@@thewanderingfooz Thanks!
What a great video, Ken and Amy! I really felt like I was there with you guys on that beautiful trip! Thank you for sharing! Can’t wait to see what this year has in store for you guys!
Amy I don’t blame you for never wanting to leave, what a beautiful Isle ! The food, the beaches look like the best ever. I’ve never seen to many perfect beaches and crystal clear water.
Cool video, may I know how did you book Yarimikkan Ryokan? I checked out the website stated in this video but it seems it only receives booking by phone?
Thank you for watching! We reached out to Yarimikan via email, and all communication was done in English. Here is their email address: yari3nono87@gmail.com Enjoy! Our experience their was amazing!
What was the ramen shop called

Thanks for the video. It brings me back the sweet memories of the trip to Shiragawa, Takayama and Gifu last November, with my wife!
Awesome! Glad it brought back some good memories, and thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
This Great...
Thank you for watching!
❤❤❤
Hello, right now I'm on train heading to takayama. Looks interesting onsen in yarimikan, is it open for public? Or limited for guest who stayed in yarimikan? Actually I stay at tokyu stay near JR takayama. Or maybe would you recommend me the place that has an open air public onsen similar with yarimikan? Arigatou!
Yes, Yarmikan is open to the public during the daytime - check their website for specific times. Keep in mind that Yarimikan is about 1.5 hrs away from the bus station in Takayama, which is walking distance from where you're staying. We would recommend a stay at Yarimikan, but you should also stay a night or two in Takayama to enjoy what's there too!
what did you think of the Antique Inn Sumoyashi? You didn't comment on it in your video, Would you recomemend it? I'm thinking about booking the place for authentic ryokan stay! How was the room size?
Sumiyoshi Ryokan was a nice, quaint little place! Nice sized room (we got the one with the private bathroom), 2nd floor, and nice river view. Keep in mind that these old places aren't very well insulated, so it can get cold during the winter! The meals (breakfast was shown in the video) weren't luxurious - very rustic in fact - using locally sourced ingredients and focused on regional cuisine. So if you're looking for a fabulous, multi-course kaiseki meal, you're not going to get it here. That being said, we really enjoyed the food, the hospitality, and the authentic experience this place offered. And its proximity to the historic "old town", restaurants, and the morning market could not be beat! We hope you enjoy your trip, and please let us know how it went!
Wow Ken and Amy. Loved this new video, you guys just keep getting better and better!
That was fantastic! Thanks for sharing, Fooz!
Beautiful photography and videos! Very well done!
Excited to visit Takayama in September!
Excellent! The Hida beef is out of this world, and although we didn't mention it in the video, the Mitarashi Dango (grilled mochi balls dipped in sweet soy glaze) are a must try too! Have a great time!
nice video. which month did you guys visit?
Appreciate the comment! We were in Takayama in early February. Perhaps that's why there were fewer people...? I hear it can get crowded there.
Very good
Thank you for watching! We appreciate the comment!
Disclaimer: I am allergic to crowded places. And maybe there is certain month or week in the post Covid era you can find peaceful times here… But we just paid a visit to Takayama - very disappointed 😢 I cannot believe how many tourists can be packed in the narrow street of the old town. The video could be shot during the Covid era. You will never get the peaceful setting in today’s world. Nothing is beautiful when the street is like packed sardines. Imagine you have to rub shoulders with others to do sake tasting and when you smell hida beef skewers all the time but couldn’t identify where is the end of the line. Thank god we only had one night in Takyama. Kamikochi and Shinhotaka are much more interesting. Btw, it was a weekday and in early November.
Bummer you had such an experience. I guess we were lucky to visit in February - streets were pretty empty, as shown in the video. Of course, as countries ease their COVID restrictions and allow their citizens to venture off again, there's going to be more crowds. And of course, with social media, more and more of these "hidden gems" are going to get more crowded. For example, Ginzan Onsen is on our bucket list, but I'm worried I'm going to be disappointed due to the crowds, and that's IF I can even get a reservation! But whenever we travel, we try to never get our expectations (or set our standards) too high, and if there's any mishap or something just doesn't our way, we roll with it. Or move on to the next location. Happy travels to you. 🤙
I am visiting soon and would appreciate it if you could let me know where you had the breakfast meal from. Looks delicious! Thanks
The 2 breakfasts that were shown in the video were included with our ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) stays at Sumiyoshi Antique Ryokan and Yarimikan Ryokan in Shinhotaka. You really shouldn't pass up the opportunity to have a traditional Japanese breakfast at a ryokan!
@@thewanderingfooz thanks so much for responding. Will definitely try it :)
Hi, I enjoyed watching this video! I will be travelling to Japan in mid Dec. I hope i can catch some snow! May I ask how long do you think is sufficient to explore shinhotaka ropeway? I'm not sure if I have sufficient time to travel to Gero Osen town after that.
Thank you for watching! We got to the ropeway early, and I believe we spent a total of 2 hrs there. That gave us enough time to make it to the observation point, enjoy the view, and have a quick lunch. We made it back to our ryokan and spent the majority of the day exploring the onsen. Enjoy your trip!
Looks like a great trip. Did you take the bus from Takayama to Shinhotaka Onsen Yarimikan and how did you find it? Did you stay just one night?
Thank you, and yes, we took the bus from Takayama! We stayed 2 nights at Yarimikan. That gave us enough time to explore all the baths there and also have some time to go to the Ropeway (which might be closed right now for renovations?). Depending on what time of year you go, you might be able to visit the neighboring onsen. Everything was closed when we went in Feb.
hello, when is the video taken? in Feb?
Yes, we were there in Feb!
Hi, great video and very enjoyable for us as we head to Osaka & Kyoto next week. In all our research, in so many videos folks will show great shots of the food and drink and it's brilliant - but - almost no one will quote the price 😕 when you're on a budget it's very good to know what you're in for when it comes to the associated costs. Hope you don't mind my 'constructive' critique...again, we loved your video, thank you / Dōmo arigatō 😃
Thank you for watching, and we very much appreciate your constructive feedback! We tried to keep track of all of our costs, but some details got lost, forgotten, or omitted. We'll keep your suggestion in mind for future videos. Thanks again!
Another enjoyable trip with the both of you, looking forward to your next venture🛫🛬
Thank you Ron! We've been busy tending to family stuff recently, but we're finally able to work on the last video of this series. It'll be a short video but hopefully entertaining. Stay tuned, and thanks again for the continued support!
I would like to be there after watching your video. What a wonderful trip! Thank you!
That's great to hear! Thanks for watching!

Hi great video😍, can you please provide "Yume Tonbo restaurant" link please? Can't locate on maps
Hi FNT! Yeah, Yume Tonbo is pretty difficult to find on Maps. Hope this helps, and thanks for the Subscribe! 海鮮居酒屋 夢とんぼ Address: 1 Chome-8-6 Dotonbori, Chuo Ward, Osaka. Reservation highly recommended during busy months - as you saw in the video, the place is TINY! Phone: 06-6213-0321
So nice!! I have been to Takayama, Shinhotama and Shirakawago in 2019!! Loved it during April freezing time in Japan!!
It got down to the 20's (F) while we were there! That's why you see us in the video with our masks on all the time - even when we didn't need them on - because it kept our faces warm! 😅 Thanks for watching!
@@thewanderingfooz wanna share 1 funny thing, when i was booking the ryokan in shin hotaka, the owner sent me a clip of how the usual weather is during April time and it was snowy blizzard. and from here in Singapore (avg 35+ degrees) I couldnt believe it would be true. but boy when i reached there....hahaha!! was fun experience! thanks for capturing it in a best possible vlog of that region....
