Anyone know the story as to why Watt's playing a Rickenbacker here? That was not the norm from this era of shows (from what I remember) and never part of the rotation. I'm thinking there was an issue and this was a back up / borrowed bass for the show? If anyone has info, pleaae post.

the bass guitar is always hard to hear. crank the volume on the bass ! edit I can hear the vocals, guitar and drums. bass player is working his ass off and you would never know it.
This popped up in my feed and I had to watch in its entirety. Such a wonderful spirit to this set. Cheers to Mike, Tom and Raoul for pulling this off.

They played a Black Flag show unannounced, in Denver, at the Rainbow Music Hall. At the end of the set mike said “Thanks, we’re the Minutemen” as they walked off stage. For me it was life changing, the next day I bought Buzz.

Who is the drummer? He does such a perfect Hurley impression, hes even got the hair flip down on top of the drums! I cant believe how good everyone is, spot on.

I find the on-stage-camera view to be an enjoyable way to watch their set. Very well done. So much more interesting looking than the usual crowd view we usually see on live footage.

awesome! Tom Watson, the guitarist, was in the awesome band slovenly, a highly underrated SST band. Thinking of Empire is their greatest album.
What's so fantastic is that this is still relevant and cutting edge today; nothing comes close to what the MINUTEMEN created... Even more fascinating, if you're just listening and not watching you'd swear it's D. Boon.
But it's also nice that Watt retired the band name. Minutemen died with d.
This old school rhymin' & spiellin' fan really enjoyed the hell out of that. Been listening to these tunes since around 1984 when I was in the 4th grade. I met Mike Watt back in 1993 before & after a fIREHOSE show in Baton Rouge. Such a cool & genuine dude, and it warms my heart watching him having such a great time playing these old Minutemen tunes. Much peace & love, y'all...God bless!

"hyphenated-man" is one of the last great albums of FOR EVER. Just listened (and have seen Missing Men 4-5 times): this set simply crushes. Rawl and Tom are true disciples of the three way and have the Minutemen soul. God bless, Mike Watt. (oh yeah, mind blown by Minutemen in 1983 & 1985)

Love Mike Watt and saw him on this tour, but overall I wonder: Why has he largely ignored his solo stuff over the past year? Including in late 2018 when I saw him? Why has he completely ignored the incredible fIREHOSE catalog? I guess he feels like Minutemen catalog is closer to his heart and his legacy. I disagree.
I asked Watt when I saw this band play a couple years ago in Pedro (two shows the same day!) about not doing fIREHOSE tunes, and all he said of those tunes was that "my fingers just don't work that way any more." Wasn't sure what he meant by that.
@@treblemaker69 Thanks so much for that response. That response rings true in that weird Watt way. You think he was saying the fIREHOSE tunes were too difficult? I doubt it. I think that was his odd way of saying that his brain does not want to play those songs and his brain is attached to those fingers. I know that the brief fIREHOSE reunion was lackluster and I think it turned him off to the astounding catalog of songs that should see the light of day. Well, I guess they do see the light because they're playing on my stereo right now.

Massive props to Tom Watson (of the criminally ignored Slovenly) for actually chaneling D.Boon. I mean his voice has the same damn accent and intonation...not mention his guitat playing

Tom Watson originally was the main writer for Toxic Shock (an amazing South Bay Band) which morphed into Slovenly. Tom is very underrated and under appreciated.
No his voice is nothing like D.'s, which is disappointing..

I'm not Crazy about the Rick tone. Like on Glory of man at 25:35 that rubbery fender sound is replaced by fuzzed out broken speaker sound to me

S.R Woodward yeah - i basically agree with you about the warm fuzzy rickenbacker sound lacking a bit on the low end compared to fender . Geddy Lee from rush had the same problem --- but its all good --- its amazing how each guitar has its own personality --- its fun to explore all the possibilities --- rather than intentionally do the same thing over and over --- just to not piss off fans with limited imaginations. punk to me is breaking all the rules --- for that matter so is jazz . so you can still go play bass with yer face ! ✌😃 (like jimi hendrix)
S.R Woodward check out the minutemen album : The Punch Line. aint sure if its a rickenbacker - but its got that trebley fuzz bass tone that works great with fast bizzy bass lines... super deep bass tone tends to mostly work better with slower tempos like dub .
When do we get the encore? :)
