For some reason I was remembering my late Mom and felt the need to listen Pagliacci. She was a soprano and I grew up being one of the children in every possible opera ❤❤ I’m listening this and the smell of the theatre, the glue for props and the old costumes come back to me like if I was there all over again… my Mom is freely singing across the Universe now ❤🎼🎵🎶❤

In my biased unbiased opinion this is the greatest opera hands down. There is no other show (perhaps the climax of die walkure) that can elicit such an emotional response from me. Vesti La Giubba is such a powerful piece.

75 years ago when I was a young bou sick in bed I heard on the radio this opera prsented in English by the Chicago Tribunr. I loved it and I recorded it on a reel to reel tape and played it many times. I still recall in Vesti La Giuba in English the lines, "Put on your costume, smear you face with the powder while Harlequin and Colubine betray you. Laugh then, Pagliocco, and all will shout applause". This is an excellent version.

A superb production set in Mussolini era Italy (there are a few men in Fascist Party uniforms in the cast they are waving flags of the Kingdom of Italy used before 1943).
