This is the new Volkswagen California, based on the Multivan
This is the latest California, based on the underpinnings of the Multivan. Volkswagen says it will be more practical than its predecessor, featuring more technology and is available as a plug-in hybrid.
When the order books to the new California open in June, five versions will be available: Beach, Beach Tour, Beach Camper, Coast and Ocean. The first three versions have a mini kitchen in the rear, making them ideal for day trips or those who might only spend one or two nights away. The Coast and Ocean versions of the California gain a full kitchenette while still maintaining improved access with sliding doors on each side - those are included regardless of model.

    I picked mine up last week. Not a great fan of it at all. Every time I jump in to drive it I have to turn off the speed limit bleeper (not a permanent setting to stay off unfortunately). It sometimes tells me to put my hands back on the steering wheel... they're already gripping to the wheel? odd warning... Then there is another stupid warning, when I overtake a parked vehicle on the road, it assumes i'm going to collide with it, because i'm such an idiot for hitting parked cars all the time, silly me. On the previous model I had an 80 ltr tank, done me well for fuel every week. Now It's been downgraded to a 50ltr tank, why?? i've lost 200 miles of range because of this. Don't get me started on the turbo lag ooft! terrible for boost. Sport mode is meh, a pointless effort to implement. The inner arches have no plastic protection, it's all bare, a nightmare to try and keep clean and prone for rotting once the road salts get under the paint. No ply on the floor in the back its the slippery plastic crap (cheap and cheerful again) best to cut out some carpet like i did and staple it to the floor, does the job well and it only cost £45 and 2 hours of my time. There are many other things I can say I don't like about it, but what do I like? well, the smoked rear lights are a nice touch. The alloy wheels set the van off nicely and the sound system is a lot better, very impressed with it.

      Van manufacturers do not want to make a secure van. They actually want your van to either get stolen and dissappear off the face of the earth, or get badly damaged whilst being broken into. New vans supplied by insurance or a raft of spare part ie doors and even roof skins after getting butchered during a break in. Same goes for keyless entry on cars. Its a nice earner for them getting replaced. And does the diesel version still have a wet belt? Thats very naughty of ford if it does. Whover came up with that idea needs a slap. Again spare parts galore £££

    I've been really looking forward to potentially placing an order for the electric 160 KW Sport version but you stated the usable battery capacity is just 64 kWh. All the Ford presentation videos through the past year have said the usable battery capacity would be 74 from a gross battery capacity of 82 kWh. The expected WLPT was to be 380 KM, but now I find another recent video showing an e-Tansit Custom at a commercial show somewhere in Europe with an info sign next to it still stating a gross battery capacity of 82kWh but as you stated a usable capacity of just 64kWh and no mention of what WLPT will be. As someone that was hopping to go for the H2 L2 max body size, this reduction of 10 kWh's is an absolute deal breaker for me!! I guess Ford want to play extra safe in reducing the capacity. May wait and see what VW will rate their version of T7. I've just been on to Ford UK's website and sure enough they are showing a revised down max range if just 205 miles thats 330km's but on Ford Irelands site its still 380km. Slow on updating! What a shame..

    • @eDriveMag
      @eDriveMag 6 месяцев назад

      As I understand it, the electric Transit has not yet been fully homologated and does not yet have official WLTP figures -- those will be issued closer to the on-sale date. The figures I quote in the video are the figures Ford gave us on the day of the presentation, just prior to filming.

    • @williampollard6259
      @williampollard6259 6 месяцев назад

      @@eDriveMag I since looked at Ford Germany’s spec for the maximum range and they are showing just 327km. I'm not really bothered exactly what the WLPT will be, it's the actual stated usuable battery capacity in Fords launch video’s of 74kWh which has now fallen back to 64kWh. This means it will have 4kWh less available than the 2021 Peugeot Partner’ Opel Vario and whatever other equivalent from Stelantis. I plan to make a video on this when I'm absolutely certain the battery capacity will be 64 kWh.

    It definitely needs the glass removing from the rear doors. Perhaps even the tailgate and fit a rear mounted camera linked to a rear view mirror. They are certainly cheap enough at Halfords. Certainly no more expensive than having two electrically operated rear windows, which are completely useless in a van. As it stands, I don’t think it is very practical as a commercial vehicle. Just buy a standard Spring and fold the seats down. At least you can use it as a normal car, as well. 😊

    The E-Transit rear suspension is suitable for the load, but not even remotely close to the highest-capacity IRS in production. Yes, the HMMWV (Humvee, Hummer H1) has a slightly higher GAWR, but anything with Oshkosh's TAK-4 is much higher. TAK-4 is primarily used on military vehicles (trucks much heavier than a HMMWV), but is also available for the front and the rear of Pierce fire engines. The lowest-capacity TAK-4 variant has more than double the capacity of the E-Transit rear suspension. There are also IRS Tatra trucks and armoured personnel carriers with all-independent suspension, both again with far higher capacity.
