Luis plays the Spanish guitar like a true master. He can also rock his instrument by playing amazing solos worthy of recognition. I’m a big fan of Luis. You can listen to his music for many hours at a time and remain mesmerized by his talent.

I’ll never forget walking my dogs seeing the huge plume of black smoke from my house. Having just gotten home from Mexico with my dad, we left the apple valley airport about 30 minutes before mike and his passenger died in that crash. It was horrific. We’ll never forget our local badass pilot.

I sat back in my office chair when I heard what happened and thought a bit about life.... some us are so lucky in life to have dreams and live them... I have dreams but not able to fill in the empty spots... my heart goes out to your family Mike.. GOD BLESS !

Venice Beach Boardwalk just isn't the same 2019

I'm just seeing this for the first time. Brings back memories of an amazing man. In 1977, I was a 17 year old beginning skydiver in Cushing, OK. Mike Mangold was a T-38 flight instructor at Vance Air Force base. He was a drop zone regular. He was already demonstrating that he was a world-class performer in all aspects that interested him. Back then, "style" jumping was a competitive event (a series of freefall turns and flips which were graded for both speed and accuracy.) He already held world records in that event. He was considered a drop-zone "sky god", extremely talented, extremely disciplined. I was in awe of him as a 17 year old. It was an honor to do some of my earliest freefall relative work with him. He stimulated my interest in flying as a career, and I began to dream of maybe myself someday flying the T-38. I went on do exactly that. Later, when i became a pilot for American Airlines, I was delighted to learn that Mike had also become an AA pilot, flying then (as i recall) the Boeing 767...a plane that i too would go on to fly. I also knew that he was a world-class aerobatic pilot, and was not surprised to learn this. He was a superstar in the pilot world. He would have been a superstar in the astronaut world. I feel that I owe, in part, my own career to Mike Mangold. He encouraged me when i must have appeared a very unlikely, skinny, 17 year old with long shaggy hair while he had the demeanor and presence of a living Steve Canyon. I am still saddened by his loss, and i treasure the memory of having known this man.

On second thought...he lived live to the fullest did things most people dream of,,pushed the envelope and cheated death several times,some of the things he accomplished left the average man shaking in his boots ,,while just watching,,,.he was a high strung action man who did,,and just dint talk about it, he was truly a badass.
