The answer is you should be able to release nations you control but you can't always apparently. DH is good like that. ally gets annexed? You can do with them what you will once you recover their land so long as (you don't have events chain to release a certain Type). But yeah I'd love love love to see you do the 3/45 endsieg. It's totally doable just hard and particular.

When Russian POW's were "liberated" by Soviet troops they were sent to GULag's. Their fam's would be executed or put in penal colonies so if Russians surrendered to w/e nationality they were fighting (Spanish/German/other Russians/Magyars/Italians/Finn's/Romanians/Bulgarians etc etc etc they would quite often request that they were registered as KIA by the Axis. And that's also why you don't hear of Russian POW's "liberated" by the Soviets and the swell life they had after. You hear about them in books like GULag archipelago or Lives of Russian Saints(POW's were a constant feature in these camps for decades after the war. Surrender was defined as treason and millions of Russians & others surrendered in droves.

I just noticed the hoi4 map has two Hanover's. The southern one is the real one I believe the coastal city called Hanover on the map is actually named Bremen.
