Very informative. Thank you. If I were to build a system with only one IBC how would you go about to install an air outlet to release the pressure when it fills up?

Overall, great system that I have built (twice). However, there is a modification to assist. The connection at the tank, if not perfectly tight (should also use teflon tape) you will have a very small leak (you will not realize it until everything is connected in permanently and you have water in the tanks). Once all connected, with this version, you can never service the tank connection point, Shouldn't need to, but it's possible. May need to move or add other tanks/components. To make the system serviceable, use a flexible coupling between the tank and the connecting pipe. This allows for disconnection and reconnection, should any need arise. I got algea at the points where light could still get into the tank (connection point and near the top cap, which meant I had to take them down, clean and correct my mistake. I also know that I will add more tanks in the future. Thanks

Will a 6 1/2" IBC cap with 2" plug fit all 275 gallon IBC totes?

How difficult is it too add more tires to this without taking the system apart? Also it's the water actually, readily drinkable just after 1st flush and filtration focused on debris/sediment? What about the protozoa, bacteria, microbes, etc?

One criticism, on the end tank you put a thin milky liquid on the black pipe coming out of the tank. But it wasn't clear what that was. Was it pvc glue or something different?

What about spray painting the white totes to black with UV resistant paint? Won't that help things further with algae control?

Great video with a lot of good info but can add a few things. The top of the IBCs do need to be tight for the overflow to work or the water will just leak out before building the head to overflow. Rather easy to add a standpipe. There are various types of threads on the IBC outlet, even in the USA, so good to check. There are adapters for the other types available online but not as convenient. The other thing worth checking is the original use of the ibc. If it’s not food grade you could be introducing nasty chemicals into your food via the water. Lastly, calling the water in the tote clean is a relative misnomer. It is cleaner but is definitely not drinking water cleaner outside of third world countries where waterborne diseases are just a part of life. It could be further treated to achieve drinking water clean.

Hey thanks for all the details 🙏 I learned that the water outlet should be 50 mm above the ground. The problem I see with the IBC is that the outlet is right at the bottom. How you handle this or is it not so important to have these extra 50mm for sludge building?

I have a question about the overflow. You mentioned loosening the caps on the top to allow air to leave while filling. Once full, wouldn't the water just flow out of the loosened caps instead of the overflow above?

Thanks for this information. I’m definitely going to incorporate this system in my yard. I like that everything is easily accessible from the bottom to the top. My only issue is what do you do to prevent critters from moving under your containers? Joe long does it last? I live in San Diego and it’s finally raining. I’m thinking about stacking 3 tanks and somebody prevent rodents and insects from moving in.

We have a rainwater collection system that consists of 12 275 gallon totes which receive water off 3 different buildings on our property. We have used the system for the past 4 years. It started with just 2 IBC totes and has grown. We love not having a water bill. My question is: How do you totally empty and clean these totes? I don't see much online about this. I know they need cleaning as they do get some ugly stuff gathering at the bottom. Is there some type of pump that is cost effective and will get all the last few inches out of the bottom of the totes? Is it possible to rig something up? The bottom of a tote is not flat. It is molded with lower and higher areas on the bottom. How are other people doing it? I picture getting a small pump and maybe getting down into the tank bottom with some PVC pipe to pump out that last few gallons of not very good looking water. Then maybe using a long scrub brush of some sort. Then pumping again until it's all clean. Comments and suggestions welcome.
