What's it like being the skipper of a passenger river boat on the Dordogne river in France? A 'GABARE' is a traditional type of french flat bottomed barge. What's the average burn time per tor h?
@@lunarminx 20 minutes 🤞🏼
Chuck Noriss ?!
Thank you for making this. It brought back so many happy memories of my boyhood growing up. This is the first year I will be having a bonfire and fireworks with my children. We moved into the country a few years ago and are now able to do this without bothering neighbours too much. I am so excited to be doing this. I feel like that little boy again. I'll be putting more onto the bonfire throughout the day and getting things ready. Wishing everyone a safe and fantastic bonfire night tonight. November 5th 2024.
Very cool but I'm worried this will make my bonfire too big for a back garden if I make one.
Brilliant loved the old fireworks air bombs from standard 👍
Can you reuse the torch or does everything burn up?
@@Samuelchallenge normally yes.
@@NutsinMay yes that you can reuse it or that it all burns up?
@@Samuelchallenge you can normally reuse it, because when fuel has all combusted the torch goes out. But, if you leave the torch to smoulder after the flame has gone out, the material will then be burnt away. Hope this makes sense?
@@NutsinMay yes it's clear. Thank you :D
In a dull 5 minutes during working from home (in Essex) I started reminicsing how this time of year, the three weeks before Nov 5th, were such a magical time for me as a kid in the 70s. I was obsessed with fireworks! I was noodling around RUclips and Google looking at old Standard artwork etc. Then I came across this. You nailed it. Firework Fever! I never had a term for it but that's perfect. We never had much money, mum couldn't afford big packs of fireworks. I had to go to the local shop with a home made guy and beg for pennies for the guy, which I then ploughed into my firework budget. Upon finally purchasing I would examine them in the box for a long time, heady with that firework smell, before eventually taking then out of the box to hold, examine and draw. Yes, I used to draw them to keep a permanent record of the Chysanthemum Fountains and the Traffic Lights etc. Intricate plans begun to be drawn up of the exact order of firing, strictly one at a time, which changed repeatedly as the great day approached. Then after taking them all to a friends to combine with theirs for greater effect on that most wonderous of Autumn nights, and after spuds cooked to golden black in the bonfire embers and sausages and onions in rolls with dollops of tomato sauce, and after the final squib had sparkled its last, home to bed to watch others' displays out of the bedworom window. Up at the absolute crack of dawn to ride my bike around the neighbourhood to pick up all the dead fireworks I could find, to examine and pour over the other brands and to keep in the garden, rotting, until forced to finally throw them out... Then the long wait for October to come around again... As an adult I have done some extensive firework parties with massive cakes and so many fireworks brought by others we had to let them off 3 or 4 at a time just to get through them all. But nothing compares to those days in the 70s, with a gloved hand holding a sparkler (colour changing sparkler too, if you were posh!), mug of soup in the other hand, watching those magical little explosives whose output bound my heart forever.
I can't really add much to what you have written, because you are obviously a kindred spirit and know all that I know and love. I'm just so happy to know that you and others are out there. Our generation is truly the end of the line nostalgia wise, because fireworks have changed so much, as have those simpler times from our 70s/80s childhoods. Thank you so much for taking the time to write down your wonderful thoughts and words. I have another firework related film in the works, hope to finish and upload it in November.
YES, that was so it.... Collecting the empty coloured tubes next morning- such fun...1970's was a good time to be a child.
My favourites were Catherine Wheels , Roman Candles, ''Golden Rain'' and rockets- Jumping Jacks scared us! - old Catherine wheels used to leave their wooden centres on the rose arbour for years- Sparklers were so lovely, too.
Thank you for what you do.
That is a damned good fire torch Sir! will be lining my hallway with your torch design this night
Depending on the fuel, the wire can melt, i recommend to use fuel that won’t make blue flames
You can wet the fabric where you want the fire to stop and only add to fuel where you want the fire to stop
8:35 You are the best. X)
Hi, I'm in Sydney, and we had the same experience of bonfire night but in June, your video brings back wonderful memories for me.. cheers from Australia.😊
That’s brilliant, I love scarecrows!
Scarecrows are very underated things
I live in Canada now and miss bonfire night so much, like you I’m just filled with nostalgia when autumn hits, I’ve watched your film about 50 times now and the memories it evokes are wonderful, thank you.
I really do miss the UK in Autumn, despite all the beauty of France. I'm really pleased that my video evokes those memories for you as well
@@NutsinMay I commented here- but YT didn't let the nostalgic comments stick :( The 1970's were a great time to be a kid.
Really haunting in a lovely way. When we were kids.
Great album.
Love this, only just found it. You are right there is something magical about the seasonality of Autumn that still brings out the kid in me too! I fire large displays every year. However as much as I love everything about fireworks today, they don't come close to the sheer wonder and excitement of those British made blue touch fireworks I grow up loving as a kid in the 1970's and 80's. As you mentioned it was the names, the eye catching colourful labels, the smell of the gunpowder..great memories. Thanks you for sharing.
Thanks for taking time out to write a comment, always appreciated. Yes, of course you're right, you can't beat the vintage stuff. The packaging/labels just aren't as good as the old days. That's why my next upload is about me designing a vintage firework label. See you the next time around.
I've just watched it again. It's Lynch-esque. It's bloody brilliant!
Wow. I can't believe this was made two years ago and has seven likes and no comments. This is a masterpiece. I discovered this wonderful channel through a mutual love of vintage fireworks - but THIS is something else! I love what you do, you and your family seem really lovely. Just keep doing what you're doing - this was impossibly good. Andie x
First of all, thanks for taking time out to leave your comments - which mean a lot. Secondly, I'm chuffed that you've enjoyed some of my content. Feedback like yours does nothing but spur me on to make another video. Enjoy your weekend 😊🧨
You are more than welcome! Keep up the amazing work. I love your channel - it reminds me of mini rockets AND 3-2-1-Zero bangers. And yes, I used to collect the dead ones, too!@@NutsinMay

Thank you, sir! I needed an idea for my band's group photo. Great tutorial
This video brought back nostalgic memories of my childhood in the '70s, a time filled with joy and laughter. Growing up during that era forged a deep and lasting bond between me and the world of fireworks. Even now, in my later years, the colors, sounds, and smells bring a sense of nostalgia, connecting me to the carefree days of my youth. Thanks for sharing this enjoyable video - it's a delightful journey down memory lane, reminding me of the simple yet profound joys that have stood the test of time.
Us reminiscers must stick together
Brilliant video :)
Thanks - that means a lot, coming from such a fantastic firework shop
Brought back memories of my dad and I lighting all those brands of fireworks you mentioned in the playground by our block of flats in the 70’s and early 80’s.
A lover of Catweazle as well I presume, which is still one of my favourite characters from my childhood.
This brings back so many happy memories, seeing the fireworks in the shop, this was the highlight of the year for me, i knew every shop that sold fireworks and bought from many of them, i used to buy nearly the entire range from Standard each year, we always had a huge bonfire in the back garden, nearly everyone did back then, i'm now 63 but still celebrate every year with a good display of at least two hours, sadly all British made fireworks are long gone, all Chinese now and much bigger but still as enjoyable, i had a cake from Ardi this year and very good it was too!
I adored this, thank you so much! And I remember that copy of the Firework Code with Freddie Firework! Subscribed. Keep up the amazing work! xxx
All best wishes - hope you had a good time 😊
Happy Guy Fawkes. We've had a great traditional night here too. Great times 😊
How lovely. Truly lovely. What memories are made of.
Indeed, so many happy memories
@@NutsinMay I can see that. You're a good Dad mate
Bloody brilliant and the memories just keep flooding back, like they do this time of the year. Have a great bfn everyone 😊
I'm pleased you enjoyed it, such a special time of the year for memories
I really enjoyed this, thank you. So many old memories and feelings came back. You got the nostalgia bang on. A week to go, can't wait. Hope you enjoy yours, too x
It was very wet on the 5th here in France, but still memorable. Rain and fireworks go together well don't you think.
@@NutsinMay I live opposite a field where they have a massive display- my old dogs used to watch- but new dog {Whippet} when I sat down to watch the display from indoors ran back and forth in a complete panic. This year, I had to sit in a back bedroom with her, feeding her treats while the neighbours watched the 17 minute barrage- At least she wasn't trembling-Animals in the 1970's, we used to make sure cat was indoors.

Thanks Terry, glad you enjoyed it, it's nearly that time of year again isn't it.
well done, great video. greetings from TX
Hello Texas 👋🏻
I’m trying to create tiki torches for an overnight bonfire event, however it’s really hard to get wick in lagos. Also how can I keep the fire burning for about 30 -60 minutes at a time?
No, normally the touch lasts a maximum of 20mins
I just called a friend who works at a saw mill on the outskirts of town. He says he can get me all the sawdust I’ll ever need and is willing to deliver it ! Great news, because I’m going to make a dry toilet. With the chaos in the World and rising utility prices, along with the threat of a grid collapse, this is my best bet. Thank you for your informative and humorous video. Love, from a dedicated Subscriber from Northern Michigan- USA ☝️🇺🇸.
any updates? dry toilet was what you needed? or did you change since?
I agree with you 100%, we are living in very dark times in Our World. Prepare, stay safe, take care and try to be self-sufficient. Love, from Michigan- USA. 🇺🇸
Hi Claudia, thank you for your great comments. Look after you're to, life is tough at the moment and the future doesn't look very bright from here does it. Love from an Englishman bottled in France x
Never could have imagined society captive by a political party so bent on destruction. I have a large wood cooking stove and my goal is to be completely off the grid. Thank you for your inspiration, my friend. There is real “FREEDOM” in Independence and self~sufficiency. ❣️&✌🏻 to you and your loved ones. Northern Michigan, USA. Water is my #1 priority. Also, making a dry toilet, unlimited sawdust ! ☝️
Will come in handy when the power goes out and in the SHTF situation. Great video ! 👍👍🇺🇸
