Foggy Columbia River Coho Salmon
A foggy early morning on the Columbia River outside of Vancouver Washington produced a nice bright Coho Salmon from my Hobie Outback Kayak. Be well and eat fish!

Do yourself a favor and get LEE PRO 4-20 110 volt lead melting pot.
I have the Ted WQilliams. It is a 15lb thrust. Top speed pushing a 78lb Grumman 17ft canoe is 3mph.
I used these with the Team Catfish weight slides to make a ruclips.net/user/postUgkxdmsDj7fQXe77DC0l7P7ua8B3PiESUubM Carolina rig and they were perfect for the ponds I fish. I have also used them to make 3 way rigs and these work perfectly. Haven't had any issues with them snagging in rocks or in weeds yet.
They do just what I was hoping they would do.
Hey, Marko, good to see you!
That was fun to watch. I’ll be fishing the Willamette here shortly with my new Autopilot.
thinking about using the same motor for my hobie compass thru the cassette. you mentioned hard to fit thru the cassette? thanks!
Just have to get the right angle on the prop head when you take it out. And the prop has to be lined up at 12 o'clock 6 o'clock or it won't lift out. A bit of a headache but with a bit of practice pretty easy. Good luck.
@@MarkoAbo ah, yes thankyou! I already done the same for my watersnake motor. I had to create a tool from a plastic hanger to align the prop before pulling it all the way out
really wish you'd wear a respirator, you're cutting years off your life this way and some poor people watching may get the wrong idea you don't need one as well
I'm thinking about buying this hot pot for melting some lead I have. Have you had any issues with it ever since you've had it I'd love to know thanks.
I've had mine for over 10 years and have never had any problems. It's a simple 110 hookup and you're melting lead in minutes.
@@MarkoAbo ok thanks
Wait so you missed the motor? I have the same Outback you have and am looking for a trolling motor
Missed the motor? Not sure what you mean.
@@MarkoAbo sorry, I meant messed with the motor.
I just shortened the shaft. The prop head is a tight fit but it works like a charm.
Well done!
In my honest opinion I rather use a bixpy smaller and lighter Having these ugly trolling motors is ugly but my .02 cents
Hmm, let's see. Bixby $650 vs Minn Kota $80. Sorry, I'll take the Minn Kota all day long!
@@MarkoAbo to each there own 👍
Good video Good sense of humour.
hey brotha i live portland oregon as well, great job!
Tight lines Lamar! Fish on!
Is that the Hobie revolution? trying to decide between the outback and revolution. figuring with the strong winds and wave chop the revolution might be better handling for the columbia.
Outback is perfect for Willamette and Columbia spring chinook. PA is too big, Revolution not enough deck space. I love my 2 Outbacks. I have a 2017 and a 2021. Highly recommend it. Be well, fish on!
Next time you going out and like to have company hit me up if you like!!
Great little video! I have been trolling off Oregon coast but have been nervous to test the bouy 10 waters in my Kayak. If you have any safety advice for that area in a yak I would appreciate it!
Personally I stay away from Buoy 10 in my kayak, or the ocean for that matter. There are guys who do it, for rock fish, ling, cabezon and halibut but they are well seasoned and just a little wild in my opinion. Check out the Oregon Rockfish Classic videos for some info. Good luck and fish on! Mark
Can't keep wild spring salmon
After July you could keep ALL Chinook on the Columbia River. Hatchery and wild. That's why we read the regs my friend.
Nice work! Where did you launch from?
Frenchmans bar?
Nice fish! I was getting stressed with the fish flipping out next to the net. Lost plenty of salmon right next to the net. Congrats on the catch
Thanks! I find that you just have to be patient when landing these fish. I use treble hooks and have lost very few fish. Thanks for watching! Be well and fish on!
Nice! Was this 2022? If so, congrats on the early fish. Hoping to get out on the big C for the first time on my kayak this year.
Nope. Last year's fall fish. Numbers look good for 2022. See you out there! Be well and fish on!
Cool head light and nice job on the fishes😁🐟🐟🐟
Thanks 👍Thanks!
Good video Mark! Just picked up 150 pounds of lead today from a boat scrap yard in Scappoose. Planning on making a bunch of 2 and 3 pound sinkers for bottomfishing. Go Huskies!
Nice salmon bro👍
Looks like agreat unit for fishing salmon, nice catch as well brother👍
Thanks! Come on out and fish the mighty Columbia River. You will not be disappointed! 👍
was this really caught on 2/22 of 2022
Nope. Way too cold right now for Columbia River springers. I believe it was early summer last year. Itching to get back out there! Thanks for watching!
Was wondering the same thing! Thanks for posting the video!
Great video thank you very much:-) how fast does it go maximum speed and what battery do I need for a 6-7h bass tournament , thanks again I really appreciate your time to help
Hi Leo. I'd say top speed is about 3mph SOG (speed over ground). The real issue here is the run time and battery weight. I use a Duracell 20Ah deep cycle and get maybe three hours of run time out of it. Since I've made this video I put together an infinite speed controller PWM which extends the battery life a bit and controls speed better and doesn't draw down the battery as fast. I'd suggest you do the same. Just look up "Kayak trolling motor PWM" on RUclips for instructions. Through Amazon the unit only cost me less than 20 bucks. I fish the Columbia River here in Oregon for big kings and have only used it on the river a couple times. The draw on the battery is greatly affected by the river currents so I had to take an extra battery with me and that's heavy. Now I'm just using it on quiet lakes for trout and it's a blast. Getting the head in and out of the Hobie Mirage hole is a bit of a pain but after you you get your routine down you're okay. Overall it's a great setup and for only 89 bucks for the Minn Kota Endura 30lb thrust it's awesome. I hope this helps. Be well and fish on! PS: Bass? Come out here to the great Pacific Northwest and I'll teach you how to catch big Chinook King salmon! Yeeehaw! (RUclips: "Columbia River Kayak Salmon Fishing 2020")
Didn't think a Minn Kota would fit in the hobie opening, can you show how it goes in and out of the pedal hole? Also provide a specific model of it? Thanks
It's the Minn Kota Enduro 30 pound thrust. Got it for 90 bucks at Cabela's. You have to kind of pull it back through as it's a tight fit thru the hole but I'm satisfied with the way it works all around.
Nice Fish Fransy. Is that what you said? Cheers, Shabbat Shalom, Mazel Tov !
Very good 👍 i will support you 🙂 stay connected 🙂👍🔔🇹🇷🤝271
Tessekur ederim!
Good camera work. The close up was very helpful.
Great video! How fast can you go with those motors?
Close to 3.5mph SOG Captain! Great fun.
Mask?
Great job Mark.
Awesome catches. I just moved up from California and looking for places to launch and kayak fish. What type of fishing is best this time of year on the Willamette and where (spring 2021)?
Check out TheGuidesForecast.com. See you out there! Good luck!
Heard the 2021 runs were abysmal. Two up the Rogue and 22,000 at Bonneville. Runs seem to be continually declining or am I wrong?
I didn't catch my first springer on the Willamette last year till the middle of May. I caught 25 and tagged 15. So far it's been slim but we're just a few good rains away from some good catch numbers. Have faith, be well and fish on!
