Herbs and Minerals for Horses - The Water Buffet
When our miniature horse was diagnosed with Equine Metabolic Syndrome and, consequently, laminitis (founder), I took a deep dive into all of the ways I could help her. Due to the veterinarian crisis, which is impacting our area beyond belief, there wasn't a lot of help available to me through traditional medicine. This led to researching alternative methods to spur her recovery. A major factor in her healing has been our horse track system (aka Paddock Paradise).
In the world of Horse Tracks, mineral bars and water buffets have become popular additions not only to support the horse's health and immunity but to also offer variety and stimulation on the track. But you don't need to have a t...

Explore Cost-Effective Shelving and Lighting for Indoor Growing
Просмотров 66Месяц назад
I received some questions regarding the shelving unit I use to grow my indoor garden and how I have my lights set up. In this video, I go into detail to show you exactly what I use and how I have it set up. The first shelving unit I bought was in 2018 from eBay. I tend to do a lot of price comparisons and found a commercial-grade unit for less than $50 (shipping included). Like most things, pri...
My NEW Favorite Method for Starting Seeds
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.2 месяца назад
In this video, I compare 2 different methods for starting tomato seeds. One is a traditional soil method that most of us are very familiar with and involves soil and trays. The second method doesn't involve soil at all. Crazy, right? If you've seen some of my previous videos you're familiar with my love of Kratky Hydroponics. Now don't let that term scare you away...it's an extremely simple set...

The number one thing you can do to save money on horse care is to provide an environment that supports the horse. This means supplying the correct forage, access to friends, freedom of movement (instead of hours of stall confinement), proper hoof trims, and safety (both physically and emotionally). But sometimes our 4 legged friends need additional help and one of the most frequently asked ques...
How to Bake Lemon Poppy Seed Blueberry Sourdough Bread

This recipe is adapted from Zesty South Indian Kitchen and has become my absolute favorite "flavored" loaf. Lemon zest gives it a fresh, bright taste and poppy seeds add a nutty balanced essence. I've experimented by adding fresh blueberries and believe this is simply divine. With only 50 grams of added sugar in the entire loaf, it's a fantastic replacement for high-sugar muffins and cakes. Should You Test Your Horse's Hay? Testing, Feeding, and Food Prep for Efficiency and Heathy Equines

In today's video I go over how to take hay samples and where to send them to get a full analysis. Why is this important? A lot of factors affect the nutritional content of hay...drought, soil health, weather, type of grass, and more. That means not all hay is created equal. And not many hays will provide everything a horse needs to thrive. Some hay is very high in protein, some is high is iron,...

      I wish I could remember but it was so long ago. My guess is 10 (since that's what I started with) but it will depend on how good you are at applying it as well as wind and weather. I do know I was able to get the best coverage with a quality spray paint (like Krylon, as you mentioned) versus a discount brand.

      Hi Mark! Thanks so much for subscribing and commenting. I'm in Cortez, Colorado! Small world. Because I'm growing mostly greens like lettuce, kale, bok chop, and microgreens, I haven't bothered with taking those measurements. I'm not growing any of these to flower. I've found greens and seedlings tend to do quite well with these lights. I did do an unscientific experiment between the barrina super brights and barrina full spectrum, which you can see here. I imagine if you were growing a more sensitive crop to flower, like MJ, then it might be worth it to check the measurements for blue and red spectrum. I messaged the company to see if they have any additional info so I'll let you know when I hear from them. ruclips.net/video/es9rU5Kc89A/видео.html

    • @TalesFromtheMutiny
      @TalesFromtheMutiny 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for watching. I'm pretty sure the color variation is from a lack of nutrients in the Kratky system. I was so worried about trying to keep everything "equal" for the comparison that I failed to take into consideration the amount of growth in the Kratky tomatoes. They needed more since they were bigger. They're still doing great, but I have since increased their nutrients.

      Back when I made this I added the nutrients after the seeds sprouted because I didn't want to risk burning them or wasting nutrients if they didn't sprout. Some people sprout their seeds on paper towels first and then add the sprouts to jars later. I made an updated video and now add the nutrients at the same time as I do the seeds. • @TalesFromtheMutiny
      @TalesFromtheMutiny 4 месяца назад

      I definitely go back and forth about using plastic. These plastic shoe boxes are food-grade and the growth cycle is pretty short so I consider that. I'd say they spend less time in these containers than most seedlings do in seed trays. But there is certainly nothing wrong with sticking with mason jars. I'm always hopeful more plastic free solutions will become available and affordable. 💕

    I live, travel and make sourdough in a motorcoach. We have a sur la table air fryer oven and a convection/microwave. Neither get up to 500 Degrees F. The convection oven only heats up to 450 degrees F, but doesn't maintain it well and the 'toaster/air fryer' only gets up to 400, but I think it maintains the temp a bit better than the micro/convection oven. I've made successful loaves, but I seem to babysit the oven as much as the dough. Might you have any suggestions? I'll be watching for your Chocolate Sourdough drop. And I love the updates on Singa Wynn!!

    • @TalesFromtheMutiny
      @TalesFromtheMutiny 5 месяцев назад

      I used to make sourdough in my convection oven in the RV too. It never got as nice of a crust as I can get now but it was still good. I actually use an Oster countertop oven for my sourdough classes. I bake a loaf during class. It only gets to 450° and has French doors with a noticeable gap but it really does a great job. I do make sure my Dutch oven is preheated extra long to help retain heat better.

    • @JCMercyGrace
      @JCMercyGrace 4 месяца назад

      I've been thinking that I need that Dutch oven. I had the equivalent in my sticks and bricks, but what I had is too big for the 'toaster' air fryer convection oven which gets to 400. The rig's convection oven gets to 450, but doesn't maintain heat well. Husband thinks a DO would be too heavy, but I think it will be just fine in our (smallish) DP motor coach. Thank you for your expertise! It helps me make that push for decision. @@TalesFromtheMutiny

    does this work for tomatoes? I want to grow those little Cherubs that are so expensive at the store

    • @TalesFromtheMutiny
      @TalesFromtheMutiny 5 месяцев назад

      It is possible to grow tomatoes this way but know that they take much longer to reach maturity...like several months. Tomatoes are water and nutrient hungry so it would be nearly impossible to fill a reservoir once and not have to fill it again. I've grown one tomato plant to maturity (I got tomatoes) but was having to fill up the reservoir about every other day. I grew mine with a one-gallon reservoir. The plant will also get just as large indoors as it would outdoors. So it needs a lot of space. So yes, it's possible but it's a bit trickier.

    Have you tried fruiting vegetables like tomatoes and aquash?

    • @TalesFromtheMutiny
      @TalesFromtheMutiny 6 месяцев назад

      I did grow a cherry tomato inside but it required a lot of extra care. Those veggies get rather large and it's hard to find a container large enough to hold all the water it needs. I used a gallon and a half container for the tomato plant and still ended up having to add water almost daily once it was full size. They also need space to spread, and extra nutrients, and some need to be pollinated by hand (if growing indoors without pollinators). There are several people who have videos of outdoor Kratky systems growing tomatoes and squash. I don't have enough room indoors.
