A Visit From Noel
Просмотров 7413 лет назад
In 2003, whilst living in Hackney, London, a friend named Noel came to visit. I was living with a friend named Sean and a cat who, as I remember, was the property of a third housemate I only knew as "Mick".
Views of Ipswich and its People in the Year 2000

A selection of camcorder footage of the town Ipswich and its people in 2000. There have been a few changes to Ipswich, most notably the wet dock, seen toward the end of the film.

On the train from London Liverpool Street to Ipswich. This short video was filmed using my nokia mobile phone. Music from The Draughtman's Contract soundtrack composed by Michael Nyman.

Short Film - My Chair (2008)

An old man reminisces about his favourite chair. Another sketchbook film- this was simply an effort to make an interesting dot about a normal household object. The voice was inspired by a supposed spirit voice recorded on tape during the well known poltergeist investigation in Enfield, London.
Short Film - A Clacton Sea Ruckus (1993)
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.15 лет назад
Hank and Larry are on the hunt for drug dealer Dapper Dillon and a ruckus is about to break out in Clacton on Sea... Short film made in an hour lunch break during a first year art BTEC course at the Colchester Institute, Clacton campus 1993. Shot using a full size VHS camera. Original music composed and performed by me- hence the poor quality- but that's the spirit of the piece. Al Pacino and e...
Look lovely, not a Romanian in site 😂
sight*
06:55 Melvin waiting for the bus. He was a local throughout my childhood. Also lovely to see the town centre full of shops, and no Turkish barbers or pound shops
The waterfront was a complete joke back then. Renovation to what we know now didn't really start officially until around 2005. That massive R W Paul silo was completely demolished; it used to stand on the cut-through between the Old Customs House and Wiff-Waff that takes you out towards where the Premier Inn now is. I've seen old photos from the 1970s where the whole lot flooded. You could see Coprolite Street was just crappy industrial buildings back then, nowadays it's very nice flats.
But why’s it all black and white?
Should use this and compare it to Ipswich today it’s a shadow of its former days. Thanks for the upload 👍
I left ipswich 2001 miss 😢 you ipswich..cos my property was haunted
all those babes in pushchairs grown up themselves maybe with kids
I moved here 12 years ago i was only 4
The chap with the dustcart is David King - really nice chap. I used to know him in the 1970s.
The town was a much better place then - its gone downhill hugely with Eastern European shops and hairdressers. Ipswich isnt a safe place to be anymore. Once upon a time we had decent shops that had been trading for many many years - Grimwades, Debenhans, Croydons, Martin & Newby etc. Just look at the horrible mess the town has allowed to become.
It's the same now throughout the land. If it's not the currys it's the Eastern Eurpoeans. You can't win. The woke governments have given us away and sold us down the river and now nearly all our towns are like shanty towns.
Now we have Gipswich. Good job morons.
Why is it in black and white lol
Thankyou for putting this up. I was born in 2000 in Ipswich , lived here ever since , interesting too see this
20 years isn't really a long time in town life. Looks much the same in most parts. Thankfully you don't get many of those arrogant stupid god preachers in the town Square these days. Its a nice good town over all with a fabulous history and fine buildings
It's a shit hole... no investment... chucked up flats all over the place, they have allowed a very historical town to go to down the pan. I moved away 2 years ago, I prefer Bury st Edmund's.
50 years ago when I was 19, I lived in the princess hotel ( guest house ) by the railway station and used to drink in the farmers arms by the football ground and the falcon in the centre of town , are they still there
Not a romanian hair dressers in sight 😂😂
English hairdressers: Nah mate, can't fit yer in, come back tomorrow perhaps (gives a "there's the door" look). Romanian hairdressers (same number of customers): "Yes of course, we won't be a minute, please take a seat. (Calls: "Sorin! Customer for you!").
Thanks for this. Just before things started to go mental with the Internet and mobile phones etc.
I remember the street works cleaner at the start
Thank you 😮😁
Man talks about death. Me: 2000 is a time for optimism and an empty canvas. Also me: 2020 is also a time for optimism and an empty canvas. Hmmmm that didn't turn out well.
No cell phones @ hand and no vent necks looking down👍
How a Labour council wrecks a town.
Seeing Ipswich town full of mostly English folk is now utterly alien. Only 19 years down the line
Bet you are proud of your veiled racist remark. Ipswich has been welcoming people from across the globe since the last century. The town is an example of how peacefully we all live together happily. I would be even happier if people like you didn't live in the town with your narrow racist views...you are just an empty headed Troll it appears..as per usual racists and haters have no profile or content here. They hide away which says it all
They regenerated the Norwich road area of the town it could be argued. However, I agree then vs now is night and day in terms of diversity.
@@voicevoice2053 The town is much more diverse now compared to when this video was taken, some people are shocked by the speed of change.
Diverse? More like divided
@@JackSmith-kp2vs yes to small minded racists like yourself maybe. Do you try to connect with people. Maybe its not white exclusive enough for you? Decent folks from other cultures add to a society. British history has always been multicultural from the Napolionic wars. What ruins any society is tiny minded racists...with their hatred.
John players hey!!!
Tobacco advertising wasn't banned in print media until 2003 and those cigarette vending machines survived up to 2008 or so. I remember buying my first ever cigarettes out of a machine. 20 B&H Gold that cost me about £6.50, I was drunk and had been curious about smoking. Didn't know much about cigarettes at all, but recognised the B&H brand and they were actually very nice.
Before the internet, this is what everyone did to stay entertained.
A planning application have relatively recently been submitted to Ipswich Borough Council, by Hope Church, to actually convert the former Ipswich Odeon multiplex cinema into an evangelical church.
It is now so. 2021.
Should have been an amazing nightclub.
The Odeon closed in 2003. If you squinted enough you could _just_ spot the outline of the lettering showing what films were on at the time it closed. Terminator 3 was one of them.
Funny feeling I might have seen my ex in this clip! There's a younger girl who looks like, well, a younger version of my ex who was born and bred in Ipswich (even though I wasn't). Might ask her sometime.
Now its richer and full of Eastern European’s
John Doe They’re not only from Romania. All over the balkans. Bulgaria etc
@John Doe Tea Leaves
Love the video. Did you produce it in colour too? 😊
I thought I was watching De Niro and Keitel for a minute! This cracked me up!
Back then they were trying to hand you bibles. Now they try to hand you big issues.
dont you mean knifes
Thank you for putting up this video. My dad is on this! he passed away in July 2011. He is the one on the tractor in Christchurch park.
Wow I knew your dad hell of a nice bloke
The ODEON site is a blot on the town , time it went down .
Agreed.
AlexanderEdwardArt Thank you , I'm sure we could do with a nice , calming area , with some trees and so forth ! About time something is done . 🤔
Whereabouts is the Odeon? I haven't been back to Ipswich in years.
@@toodlypip77 it's next to the Regent, the building is still there abandoned to this day!
@@lawseyitfc I'm old enough to remember going to the old Odeon on Lloyd Avenue
Wow ipswich docks looked like a shithole back then Lol thank god it has changed and other then that ipswich has not changed that much just more betting shops and poundlands around LOL
no blood?
Now we're in 2016, how much has Ipswich changed...such as Tower Ramparts etc.?
Aww the memories!
Clacton dont look like that now
More genuine emotion than most Hollywood flicks. Wonderful stuff.
@PnutButter1986 Thank you.
It captures Clacton Day-to-Day life beautifully
Thank you! I hope to post some more Ipswich related video soon.
