legacy is short lived. meaning, it will only exist as long as your kids and grandkids are alive. after that, if your name ever comes up, it will be a footnote. so make the best of what you can now, live the best life and have no regrets. remember, within 3 generations, folks won't even recall your name.

So true. Young people aren't being taught to take care of themselves. Everything has become too dependent on the system and people won't know what to do when the system isn't there anymore.

Knowing how to process an animal. They always say the Indians knew how to utilize the entire animal. Yet, why is that skill, I dare say, is next to gone entirely for 99 out of 100 people. I love to entertain ideas on the next phase but even if you come from a place of accepting that we simply don't know the answers, it makes perfect sense that don't good makes us feel good and that's all the compass direction we ultimately need to navigate life. Obviously more nuanced but it really is that simple to me.

In a discussion group a couple years ago, we were opposed with the question of what we wanted our legacy to be. And it was aimed at motherhood, but I think it's important for everyone to consider what they want their legacy to be, because we DO get to choose it!

I too have felt stuck for the last few years of my life. I'm not where I want to be at all and feel I have so much more potential in life but it's all being wasted. I'm very hard on myself about it and it can get overwhelming if I focus on it long enough. Just stating out loud the things that are good and that I am thankful for does help me, just like you are doing. Thank you for sharing.

With the advent of smart phones and the ability to snap pictures at a moment's notice, not to mention social media and people's obsession with being noticed...we're bound to produce a lot of fake smiles.

I always thought smiling for the camera was fake too. People go around all day with frowns on their faces so why should people smile for pictures? It's so unnatural.

Amen to that. Life can be so difficult that its hard to find a single reason to exist. One thing I have learned is that you can't count on people's approval or encouragement to get you through. It's just not going to happen. I am constantly trying to care less about the approval of others and just do what I know is right. It's a monumental task that no one has totally mastered but it's the key to contentment. Thanks for your thoughts and thanks again for making these videos.

I'm appreciating this series. I think a lot of people, I can be guilty of this too, don't consider what the words we speak really mean. Or often don't think through what we are saying, so we have a whole society of people spewing meaningless words constantly.

I need to get better at this, myself, but hammer and nails have held things together for a long time. Learning to make adhesives is on my list. DIY wood glues on the stove top. The old ones made pine tar, or pine pitch. Binds materials, reinforced with cordage. Pine tar works as a durable wood finish as well.

Cane sugar comes brown and refined to turn white. I have purposely not incorporated any heating source other than the sun because I'm rehearsing for a future without power. Now there is a way to use water drums or barrels in the hoop house, during the day they warm up, at night they will give off warmth...will be trying that eventually. Store bought "brown sugar" use usually just dyed, from my understanding. I wish I had a raw cane sugar source for my coffee. Do you think the hoop house plastic would insulate enough for a small little "milkhouse" heater to be effective on the cold nights?
