Very helpful, easy, and fun!
Thanks Tom. I love Jazz and look forward to buying the sheet music.
Great! The tutorial for this one is coming out next week, and I just finished recording an arrangement of Fly Me to the Moon that also has mainly 3-note chord voicings.
@@GodfreyGuitar Looking forward to it!
thank you so much
If you're reading this, i just wanna say i really appreciate it. I did not know where to start and what is important but with this blueprint i can really build some structure on my learning. Thanks a lot
I’m glad you found this helpful! Most self-taught players tend to dive right into the deep end and make music theory harder than it needs to be. Music theory is a big topic, but it’s a lot easier to tackle if you start with the very basics and build from there.
A good teacher makes a difference ❤❤❤❤❤🎉
Thanks for actually slowly explaining how to read the charts!!!!
Excellent! Have a blessed and healthy 2025. I appreciate all you do.
Once I've finished the tutorial, I'll add a link here. For one-on-one online guitar lessons, free downloads, and tons of lesson videos, check out www.godfreyguitarlessons.com
Thank you!
It's very difficult to hear the actual beats when you are speaking over them.
@@teacherlisa163 thanks for the input. I noticed the same problem on some other rhythm videos I’ve done. I don’t remember which video I started doing this with, but I’ve begun counting one time through so listeners can hear what I’m counting in my head and then continuing without counting out loud so listeners can hear the guitar and metronome more clearly.
You are a good teacher you don.t go too fast, this is so beneficial for anyone learning, the diagrams make a lot of difference also.. Thank you.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you found this helpful.
These are terrific tips front to back. Check your ego at the door is essential!
Yup! That pretty much goes with being a musician in general. I've played tons of background music gigs, and I've always been perfectly happy to sit in a corner, quietly play my guitar, and collect a check.

Hi I play all my chords at he skinny end of the guitar neck. Basic shapes no bar chords. I would like to to start to jazz up my playing. I am wondering which book woul be best for me?
If you’re just starting to learn jazzier chords, I recommend Three-Note Jazz Guitar Chords. Here’s a link for that: godfreyguitarbooks.com/products/three-note-jazz-guitar-chords To see the sort of thing you would be getting into with that book, here’s a video that goes over shell voicings and how they work. ruclips.net/video/1UdeSgeCvIU/видео.html If you work your way through Three-Note Jazz Guitar Chords, the next step would be Rhythm Guitar Book 3, which covers 4-note versions of the most common jazz chords, plus standard bar chords for major and minor chords. godfreyguitarbooks.com/products/rhythm-guitar-book-3 I also have a free “crash course” on moveable chords you could check out. Here’s a playlist for that (no jazz chords, though). ruclips.net/p/PL7EWn0NDNJx_oi7ovgLXwoNV_dQ83_CtD You can find the accompanying PDF for this at www.godfreyguitarlessons.com/downloads (the 1st Moveable Chords Booklet is in the Tips and Reference Materials section.)
@@GodfreyGuitar hi again. Perhaps jazz up was the wrong term🙃. I would like to embellish my playing and like to play folk tunes. Thank you
@@barbaradeuell Understood! If you’re looking for ways to embellish folk chords, you can start with bass runs (also known as walk-ups and walk-downs). You may already do this, but in case you don’t, here’s a video on bass runs to get you started: ruclips.net/video/9fhOGJ-RonQ/видео.html If you’re looking for ways to expand the range of chords at your disposal, the moveable chord “crash course” I mentioned in the previous comment would be appropriate. ruclips.net/p/PL7EWn0NDNJx_oi7ovgLXwoNV_dQ83_CtD
Thanks!
Great video! Thanks!
Thank you so much. As the name mentions, i started on the sax. I've been learning guitar, but i didn't know how the notes worked on it
Starting on saxophone will help you quite a bit! I was a trombone player before I played guitar, so the first few years of playing were spent getting my fingers to catch up with the knowledge I already had. Once you get used to the layout of the fretboard, you'll be off and running.
Good tips, one and all
Thank you!
1:28 as a singer, I tend to be fluid in my timing. Keeping a steady time on the guitar while being more loose in the vocals is a challenge.
Agreed!
This is exactly what I was looking for thank you!
Well explained, I've just added a fretboard map to my online tool that allows you to show exactly what you are explaining, can even select 2 scales/mode/chords and overlap, left or right handed and many tunings on the guitar, if ok with you I can post the link, its free and no ads or trackers. I am keen to hear feedback on it and its a really useful tool.
I have my comments set so that I'm the only one who can post links to avoid spam bots. Can you send a link to me directly? You can go to www.godfreyguitarlessons.com/contact and message me that way. Your online tool sounds interesting, and I'd be happy to check it out and add the link myself.
@@GodfreyGuitar I have sent you some information and link, I hope you find useful, there is no cost, its free, been around a year now, this feature I added for myself to help improvise and in song writing. Kind Regards, Dan
Wow ...I just started learning guitar on my own and have zero knowlege, i have tried learning guitar and music theory from youtube but for some reason every youtube teacher makes it so complex and hard to understand, even the basic stuff....But i understand your teaching and i am excited to see more of your videos...Hope you teach more of MUSIC THEORY TOO
Thank you! I'm glad you find my lessons helpful. I do have a series of theory videos. Here's the playlist for that: ruclips.net/p/PL7EWn0NDNJx90kNaiqF6f-4vVNRKSekFb and I also post a fair number of theory videos. If you're just starting, some of the theory videos might make sense, and some will make more sense later after you've developed more background knowledge. Don't hesitate to ask if you have questions. Oh, and if you're just starting out, this "music theory roadmap" video can help you learn theory concepts in a logical order: ruclips.net/video/PS5Ks3ZhZkI/видео.html
