My LAFFING ( laughing ) SAL
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.3 года назад
Direct from the factory, she came when her original factory home closed and auctioned off everything before closing their doors forever. Unlike her sister Sals (of which only about a dozen survive from the hundreds that used to populate old amusement parks across the country), her face has never been exposed to the elements (although they forgot to paint her nostrils!). I replaced her wardrobe ...
Laffing Sal at Lakeside

Soupy Sales and Pookie tribute - homemade

I grew up watching Soupy, Pookie, White Fang and the gang and they are an invaluable part of our humor from the Baby Boomer generation. Thank you to my wife, Susie, who helped me with this little video. Thank you also to Craig Marin at Flexitoon who actually knew Soupy Sales and Frank Nastasi and attended the taping of Soupy’s show in New York where he obtained valuable insight talking with Nas...
Grim Grinning Ghosts in FCP

I have posted this sequence for anyone who might want to download and use it as Halloween draws closer. I found bits and pieces of the Grim Grinning Ghosts sequence from other RUclipsrs who were nice enough to post what they had. Thank you! The highest resolution I could find was 480p, so unfortunately it’s not HD resolution. (Still looking for that!) Yes, there are existing versions of a 4th a...
Of Course White Fang could talk to Soupy Sales
Просмотров 40 тыс.8 лет назад
We just couldn't always understand him. Most people hear only canine grunts, but he is saying much more. (I used other RUclipsr's uploads to showcase examples. If anyone objects, please let me know and I will remove that section. Thank you.)

John Allen - roller coaster designer interview
That guy was amazing "Mr. Jinks , Snagglepuss" - how did he keep track of all of them ?!!
Certainly not meant as an insult to this very talented man, but as a way to describe his talent for me is like schizophrenic.
Hey I was hoping I could use this video as background footage to promote my latest song! It's not for profit, currently just a passion project :)
Sure. I'd love to see your video when it's finished (passion projects are the best!). Be aware, though,I don't own all of the rights to what you see/hear (like the music, which I licensed for this particular usage, or the Frankenstein clips).
I miss Soupy, Black Tooth, White Fang, Pookie, Hippo, Peaches and the whole gang. ❤
So wonderful.
IIRC I was there with my HS band the day it reopened in either 1979 or 1980 after being closed for some weeks(?) after an obese woman had fallen out due to the restraints not fitting. Some news people interviewed riders exiting the ride and I got on tv waving in the background like Forrest Gump lol. Kids I was babysitting around that time saw me on tv.
Yeah...they really had some problems with the first design. They eventually had to remove some of the humps and rarely raced the tracks together (which was the whole point).
Gotta love going down internet black holes. I was looking to see when Ray Bolger, the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz, passed away and saw he was buried in Holy Cross cemetery. I thought maybe it was near Boston where he was born. No, it’s in LA. I looked up the cemetery and clicked on notable burials. Close to Ray Bolger’s name was Daws Butler, whom I’ve never heard of, but I grew up with his voice. That led me to this RUclips video. Had no idea one guy did so many of Hanna Barbara voices, he’s about as prolific as Mel Blanc, who everyone knows. Jincks the cat was hilarious. Bet I would laugh more now if I watched that cartoon. It was more than just providing a voice for Butler, it was like a work of art. He did use famous voices as inspirations as well. Snaglepuss was Bert Lahr, the cowardly lion. I learned that Lahr sued and afterwards they had to put a disclaimer up.
"Exit Stage Left" became a part of my childhood lexicon.
That creepy old thing used to freak me out waiting in line to get inside and run around like little idiots not knowing or caring about how dangerous it was in there. You could get huge wood splinters or serious carpet burns from the sides of the sheet metal slides or a compound fracture from being nearly crushed by a pile of yelling kids after getting spun around at 1,000 rpms until everyone is flung off that turntable death machine. Good times, the 70's was the best time to be a kid. What a blast.
LOL
where was lakeside?
Denver, CO. It's still open and family-run and in great shape - beautiful at night with all of their lights. Their main competition was Elitch's...but that park closed.
@@scottcampbell3940 ok, thanks i thought maybe she was in alameda ca, sf bay area at some point.
shame for the CC ruining the video. the fun part is guessing what Fang says
NO subtitles. Ruins the comedy Jeeeeez
It’s a wonder that anyone would want to create a thing of such mocking frightening emptiness
dose he have the world record for the most pies in the face
I wouldn't be surprised! I am surprised at how hard Clyde threw those things (you've probably seen the behind-the-scenes pictures of Clyde hitting Soupy dead center with a well-aimed pie from off-camera - that's a real skill!). There's also a great picture of Clyde hunched down behind the window poking Pookie up to talk to Soupy. You can also see the TV monitor that Clyde watched at the same time.
@@luckyzert Sales, whose given name is Milton Supman, was born in North Carolina. He got his start as a radio scriptwriter and standup comic, going on to host immensely popular local children's shows in Cincinnati, Detroit, New York and Los Angeles. He also has made guest appearances on numerous TV shows, occasionally appeared in films and twice had hit records, with the novelty songs "The Mouse" and "Spy With a Pie." Besides throwing cream pies, Sales also takes them in the face. He once estimated he had been hit 25,000 times.
This is seriously scary.
never even thought about subtitles. funny that I think I understood Fang better as a kid than 50 years later. awesome stuff.
Awesome work!! Do you have any making-of pictures or video? I'd love to see!
Thank you for your kind comment. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to grab any "making of" shots (although I wish I had!).
@@luckyzert Aww, darn! Thanks for the speedy reply! What happened to the tiger after the commercial was completed? Repurposed for other productions? Storage?
Randy trained all of his wild animals (including a bear!) for TV and film work. The tigers we used (we had 3 of 'em) went on to be used in the film GLADIATOR. Randy doubled for Russell Crowe in the Colosseum tiger fight scenes.@@AnimatronicsArchive
@@luckyzert Ah, I was referring to the animatronic tiger head in this conversation! But it's cool to know that the real tigers continued their acting careers! 😁
@@AnimatronicsArchive So sorry, my friend...yes, the head was recycled, but it remained with the same look in future uses (as I understood it).
This is amazing! lol
Thanks. It was fun to shoot!
Its was so innovative back then. A guy who could talk with his big dogs that you had to imagine what they looked like. Genius.
God bless RMC 🙌
I want a pookie lion puppet!
Please shout out if you find one. I've been looking. Nada.
Great video. Clyde Adler was the voice and arms of White Fang, plus he was usually the unseen guy at the door, and the voice of Pookie the Lion. In the old black and white clip, it was Frank Nastasi doing the voice and arms of White Fang. Not sure who did Black Tooth, may have also been Adler.
Thanks for the comment. It reminded me of a great clip (I'll see if I can find it) where the man at the door (Nastasi at the time) would ask Soupy a question, to which Soupy had to walk back to ask White Fang the answer. This went on for several minutes, where Nastasi had to be at the door and then Soupy had to give him enough time to run from behind the set and behind the cameras, and up on the ladder in order to respond as White Fang, who then answered Soup's question that required an answer from the guy at the door, and so Soupy had to give Nastasi enough time to get back to the door. And the longer it went on, the louder the crew laughed...even if the audience didn't completely understand what was happening. Found it! Sometimes RUclips won't allow links to be posted, so just look for "White Fang Steals a Steak." Also, if I haven't bored you yet, here's a Pookie puppet that I have: search for ""Soupy Sales and Pookie tribute - homemade"
I named a big white cat I rescued White Fang...because he acted like a dog...
Throwing a pie correctly is a real skill. This show was the best!
Truly!!
The Banana Splits, brought to you by Kellogg's! Kellogg's puts "more" in your morning! More nourishment! More flavor! More fun!
A guy who could talk with his big doggie as if it was natural. God, I loved Soup. That alone was innovative. And how he would look directly into the camera as if you were there. And how he would walk up into the camera and get up close. These were all new and innovative comedy and new TV. Laural and Hardy innovative stuff.
This is more creepy than the original...
This is absolutely hilarious! Thank you so much for introducing me. I was familiar with Soupy’s name but never saw his show.
My pleasure! Glad you liked it. Some just don't get the humor.
6:00 IT'S..........ELROY!
A clip longer than 8 sec would have been nice...lol

Hi there! I'm a producer with Hearst TV. Is there an email I could send an inquiry to? I'm working on a story about Kings Island in Cincinnati, discussing John Allen the designer of The Racer and I think this clip would be an amazing addition to help visualize John. Thanks for your consideration!
JINKS sounds like Christopher Walken.
Daws Butler...my hero! It started with Ruff! and Reddy!
Daws was several of my best friends while I was growing up.
Great way to say it. Me as well.
Yeah, he made me go sheehyahyahyashee a good deal!
I freaking love white fang. can't get enough.
Thurl Ravencraft was such a talent
Right on! He's Grea-a-a-a-t!
"Pookie" has always been my favorite word of endearment. Now I remember why!
Right on!
The man was a genius..
This was genius. They didn't have a big budget, so they had to be creative. Talking dogs were remarkably inventive...
I was Soupy's production assistant at WNEW channel 5 in New York. I'm thrilled to see these G-R-R-E-A-T videos again. God bless.
Holy cow!! That's amazing!!! You might appreciate the Pookie puppet I have that was molded from the last Pookie that Trudy Sales had (before the rubber completely melted away). Frank Nastasi had some input on it before he passed away. See: "Soupy Sales and Pookie tribute - homemade" on RUclips. I coated it with silicone so it won't dissolve (like rubber does over time).
Amazing! May I kiss the hem of your robe?
Soupy was THE MAN!! Love White Fang, Black Tooth and Pookie! ALL of it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Daws Butlers work with Stan Freberg is largely overlooked, but was fantastic. Both he and Freberg were puppeteers for Bob Clampetts “Beany and Cecil” live show. Daws also worked with Stan Freberg on his radio shows and records. He’s hilarious in “Elderly Man River” as Mr. Tweedley the censor. Daws also did a sketch where he was a hobo with a clock rat named brailsworth.
Soupy to black tooth:”That’s what I love about you. You’re always good. In order to get white fang to be good I have to give him a quarter, you’re good for nothing”
Great memories.
I wish some surviving films of Soupys earlier shows survived so we could see what Willie the Worm looked like. He lived in a little travel trailer in Soupys house.
QuickDraw, Baba, and Jinx are THE BEST!
So sad that six months after this aired, he was gone.
When it comes to voice overs there are 5 greats Mel Blanic,Daws Butler Don Messick Casey Casem and Frank Welker known for Freddie of Scooby Doo
Can't forget June Foray and Paul Frees.
@@scottcampbell3940 ok Rocky watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat
