Maggie in the Wood (Irish Trad. Polka)
Original FB post of 19th November 2024 reads:
"Maggie in the Wood for TT complete with clairvoyant melodeon who can sense fluffs even when they haven’t happened yet! Was wondering if the song lyrics with the same name had anything to with ‘Lady Margaret’ and ‘Tam Lin’? But have now read the comments on the Session … 🙄
Other than that, the arrangement is loosely based (altered due to different chord choices) on Chris Jewel and Alastair Gavins’ compilation of their arrangements, titled “Unexpected Polka (& other tunes)”, which I purchased in the Spring, and is proving to be rather fun. The Tunebook even has its’ own website: check out the many resources available there!

Donkey Riding (English Trad.)

Original FB post of 12th November 2024 reads: "This needs no introduction (hence no title in the video), but there is a two bar musical intro to give people a ‘trigger’ warning! Why this? It was sunny today and I’d had coffee! Other than that, the arrangement is based on Chris Jewel and Alastair Gavins’ compilation of their arrangements, titled “Unexpected Polka (& other tunes)”, which I purcha...

Original FB post of 7th November 2024 reads: "No don’t panic, it's not Tuesday yet. It's positive vibes Thursday, for Apple. xxx ... I need to acknowledge the arrangement I used, from Chris Jewell & Alisitair Gavin's brilliant compilation of arrangements, The Unexpected Polka (& other tunes) published in 2021. With a nod to "Chopsticks" (original name "The Celebrated Chop Waltz") which, accordi...
The Ghost of Ballybrolly by Brian Finnegan (Reverie and Jig)

Here is a Reverie (once through) and a Jig (twice through). Two different takes on one tune, prepared for this week's Tunesday Tuesday Group posting. ..... Boring bit (TLDNR) First, no click track, but dots - lots of them, with chord notation, phrasing marks, dotted slurs denoting the 'push and pull' bellow movements, 'breath' marks etc. Much freedom, but slow at approximately 50 bpm (on averag...
The Wonder by James Hill / Farewell to the Dene by WillyTaylor

Original FB post of 26th October 2024 reads: "Evening all. Have found some time to look at two tunes by Northumbrian fiddle players, no reason other than they're fab. The Wonder by James Hill / Farewell to the Dene by Willy Taylor. ......... Boring bit: First tune, no dots, but with 120 bpm in-ear click track. Second tune, glancing at dots, 105 bpm - a slightly more sedate quick march!"
Ray's Classic by Willie Hunter (In G)

Posted on YT, before FB this time! Technical notes for those who are interested: No dots. Click track (130 bpm) in the melodeon's ear. Dancing pace - tried earlier to walk to this - no chance! Everyone else (poor them) has the pre-recorded melodeon track blasting in their left ear. I don't think these are debuts for my whistle (played like a school recorder, sorry) and mandolin, trying to imita...

Original FB post of 16th October 2024 reads: "Bó Mhín Na Toitean - Strathspey style. Another great TT tune. Needed a click track for this (my feet tapping, although mentally helpful, is never in time!) ..... Technical footnote: Am playing from the dots. However, I am reading the chords from a transcription I did in Em - to learn the tune on my D/G - but am actually playing in Dm on a C/F Sandpi...

Original FB post of 8th October reads: "So, having danced to Jigfoot, quite possibly ever since they released their album, Nothing At All, in 2011, it’s fair to say this tune has been infused just enough that I felt I could give it a go on my Sherwood G/C Anglo (first outing for TT, I think). Melodeon player is also a little uncomfortable, what with one strap having been (reluctantly ?!) remove...
Spin the Drum by Jacqui Longhurst (September 2024)

Original FB post reads: "So, I was trying to practise 'Spin the Wheel' (see earlier post) on my Guerrini 96 bass, in F minor. Title is in keeping with the rest of the tunes I have written lately - they all seem to be loosely connected to laundry, although currently, its full depressing title with hidden...

Original FB post of Tuesday 30th September 2024 reads: " Another Tunesday Tuesday tune, “Ladies Step Up To Tea”. Don’t drink too much tea, but had coffee at lunchtime! Another post for the Tunesday Tuesday Group. Gånglåt från Äppelbo - Melodeon & Fioler. The pace, a meandering stroll, as the path is stony and, with my head in the sky looking up at the trees, and the flowers, and the birds, it's easy to stumble. Oh, and beware the three happy heffalumps (fiolerna) who may appear at any moment! The harmony parts are based on the ABC notations that 'weejie' prov...

Very nice! I wonder if the steam donkey reference is to the ones used for logging up in the American northwest. There are still many steam donkeys abandoned out in the woods in these places. They would pull themselves up steep hills or through deep rivers. Anyways, great tune!

Yes a lovely tune. I'm glad I let Sam send it out into the wild...it is what should happen to tunes :) As background, the gift was for sponsoring (a small) part of the costs of producing a CD.
