Excellent points! Thank you!
@@JimSnedekerMusic thanks, I hope you found it helpful!
Dynamics are possibly the most important part, but this lesson is even more important when you get to Fmaj7 where you just don't hit E&A!
@@knifeyonline yes exactly!! 💯
@@mallorymusibay very important lesson, well done on the video.👍
@ thank you, I appreciate that!
You are soo much beautiful
Not here for the guitar lesson
A definite, no. This is in your head. Strumming 2 strings is not a go to.
You're not getting the point
@Tastein-2024 the demonstration was enough to not have me convinced. If you play thr chords properly, strumming all strings should give a pleasant result. Let us not motivate bad practise.
@@muffinberg7960 thanks for the input! However, certain chords only call for playing certain strings as it can actually create the wrong sound if certain strings are played. Just remember, there are different times to play different strings! 👍
@@muffinberg7960 Agreed, I don’t think strumming 2 strings should be a go-to either. If you watch the full lesson, I go on to explain that it’s more about emphasizing certain strings over others (not only playing those strings). Hope that makes sense! 😀
@@mallorymusibay those chords do call out certain strings to be muted.
You’re a great teacher
@@mehrrepairz thank you!
Good job Girl!
Is this true for all string instruments or js the guitar? and how do ik which strings to hit and which to not?
@bridgette86412 Great questions! I’m not sure if it’s true for all instruments, but I know it’s true for guitar. I actually answer your second question in the full lesson! Just head over to my channel and tap on my most recent video! 👍
It mostly depends in which chords you are playing. For open chords E, E minor and G you'll strum all 6 strings in the beginning. For A and A minor you strum from the A string. For D chords you strum from D string and for the non barre F chord you strum from A. If you can do the F in the barre way then strum all 6 strings. Basically you almost always strum from the root note if the chord
True for mandolin. There are plenty of chords which don't need all the strings, so obviously you only strum the strings you need. However, even with full chords, you can try strumming just the bass strings for a couple of bars, and then just the treble strings for a couple of bars. Or maybe strumming the bass strings on the down strokes and the treble strings on the up strokes. On the mandolin, I might do a tremolo on just two adjacent strings at the end of a phrase. Or start a phrase by alternate picking two strings for a few notes and then gradually transition to full strums. Once you realise it's even possible then a whole world of possibilities opens up. Experiment and find out for yourself what sounds good and what works for you.
Serendipitous this showed in my feed, my girls started learning guitar two days ago and this exact fact became apparent immediately. It's just fun to make more noise. Maybe they'll understand it from you better than me, ha.
@@emptyb9968 haha no way! So cool how that happens sometimes. That’s awesome that they’re learning! I started when I was 9 and loved it. Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions they might have!

You should sing when you play, not only does it help the listener to understand where you are in the song sometimes, but I’d like to hear your singing voice!
@@EVGUITAR1975 thanks for saying that! I 100% agree, been thinking about incorporating that! Just didn’t have time to practice it for these past couple tutorials, but def gonna start incorporating it for the future! 😄👍

Nice , so many people don’t get this 🇬🇧🙌❤️
@@garethmartyndavies2250 thank you! 🙌
All good tips & I would recommend a good one I learned early on: Use a paper-thin pick. It doesn’t matter how hard you hold the pick or attack the strings, it won’t be transferred by the pick. Then, use a slightly thicker pick & try to replicate the sound when using the paper-thin. With practice the feel is easily transferred. Also, it is a must that the beginner understand dynamics.
@@Folkstone1957 agreed!! Those are great tips, especially for beginners!
RIGHT! Dynamics is that super cool and not at all creepy book by L. Ron Hubbard I think!

C and G too .
those are great as well!
This is a good video! As a guitar teacher myself, i also go through this with every beginner. You explained this very well indeed. Pushing your wrist down also brings the flat of your fingers away from the strings too 😊. Is a good one for avoid accidental muting

Very cool - Lots of pattern changes .. I’ll never master those B & F chords with my stubby digits But lots of fun trying to keep up with you. I’ll keep practicing, P.S. Harder to strum with torn rotor cuffs. 😊
Yes lots of changes throughout the song. I'm sure that injury makes it more difficult though. Just do your best with what you can and have fun! That's what's most important!
@@mallorymusibay Oh Oh! Just got a date for my operation .. Oct. 29. With 3 month recovery therapy.

You! Oh, oops #1 chill vibes 😊👍
Music theory is literally just grammar for the language we call "music". It helps us talk about the language by naming the parts of speech, and describes the patterns specific to various ways it is "spoken". The rules don't say you must speak a certain way, just that you are more likely to be understood if you do.
@@kinemaxis526 exactly! That’s a great way to put it! 👍
Merci beaucoup pour la leçon , 😊
