Can anyone tell me the name of and the year of the motorcycle pictured 4 mins 10 secs into the video? I have a picture of my Grandfather who died in the 2nd world war on a motorcycle just like that one and I'm trying to find out the make and year of that model, so if anyone can help it will be much appreciated.

Anyone know what artist is singing the song and what its called?

A great documentary as far as it went. Could i suggest that instead of wasting time with fill-in music as you pan in & out on still images, that you explain what it's a picture of? There could have been far more information packed in, ot would have been so much more interesting.

At 3:50, that's a 53 Clipper, not a 54 which had the revised "sore thumb" taillights.

What's interesting to me is I was researching Ariel Rider Ebikes (its Grizzly model mostly) and along came up info on Ariel motorcycles, a brand name I'd never heard of before mixed in with the various links Google generated. Just finished watching this, great documentary by the way. Very interesting. Here I am again, looking for Ariel Rider accessories, with Ariel motorcycles mixed in the results. So after watching this I am betting Ariel Rider is named in tribute to the motorcycle company of the same name. The Ariel Grizzly and the Ariel 52X have a certain vintage motif. Even it's company logo is vintage with a retro style font to the label as well. I think I may he right and if so, that would be an awesome tribute to that which came before as shown in this video. Awesome vid, and a shame Ariel didn't make it with the same duration Harley and Indian has held onto. Wonderful style Ariel had.

In the 60's I rode an Ariel SQ4 for awhile, nice cruiser but had cooling problems in the midst of the pots.

In the 1950s, my dad rode a 1948 Ariel 350cc Red Hunter, HNN481 to which he eventually added a single seat Watsonian sidecar for my mum. My first new bike was a 1955 Ariel Red Hunter 350cc, XRA632 replaced by a 1955 650cc Hunmaster, I forget its number, the last year before the hood over the headligh appeared. They were both lovely bikes, easy to maintain and service, plenty of performance and very comfortable to ride. I remember Sammy Miller very well.

Although my grandfather rode an AJS, the Ariel name holds a special place in my heart and is also synonymous with my childhood. I have the South African DJ to thank for that.

Packard was for and beloved by the elegant, luxurious and business rich. And aspired to by so many more. Not necessarily for the 'filthy' rich, who had more choices. But filthy rich (and movie stars...) did go for top of the line Packards. The premier American luxury car maker, 1909 --through the '40's.

I saw one that was on loan from the Larz Anderson museum that had a sign noting that the car was so heavy that you could only turn the wheels when the car was moving.

1955 was the last full year of production under packard management. In mid 1956 studabacker took over production. In 1957 studabaker closed the Detroit plant and moved production to South bend. Under the sudinim packard... Almost immediately studabacker sold the patents the most noticeable is firing order balancing spechs to gm, packard held many of which led the way in modern car conveniences suck as power windows, heat, ac integrated dash, padded dashes, power seats, power steering, and power suspensions this is huge when considering Bugatti and Bently are using this desighn with some upgrades.

I had a 1956 Packard 400 series, 2 door hardtop, topaz and bone white two tone, it came with the ultramatic push button transmission. I called the California Packard club to attempt to find someone who could repair the ultramatic trans, this is 1995 they wanted 6k but with no warranty. I ended giving the car to the Goners car club so they stripped out a perfectly original like new 56 Packard and installed a 350/350 combination drive train. So much for keeping these cars original. I will never buy an odd ball car ever again.

Clark Gable was also known for his 1935 Duesenberg SSJ, a car costing 4-5 times what a fine Packard did. The second of just two built was purchased by Gary Cooper and sold several years ago for over $22,000,000! Now those are truly cars of the "Filthy Rich."

In those days people loved "The 3 P's" Packard, Pierce - Arrow and Peerless.

In Fort Lauderdale Florida there is a classic Packard car collection, which I recommend visiting. Particularly memorable is a 1918 Ladies' Town Car and a 1940 open hearse, rather like a flatbed pick-up, and definitely a faIr weather vehicle.

Packard never built "junk". They were always very refined, well built, well engineered automobiles. They seriously miscalculated the post war styling, and paid the price. People who make this type of remark should see the design Cadillac was ready to put into production before the Harley fins. Worse looking than the Nash. Packard didn't have the GM, or Ford bankroll, so building mid priced cars in the 30's to survive the depression damaged their reputation. They were getting their sealegs after James Nance became President, and might have survived had they not purchased Studebaker.

The Company's official name was "The Packard Motor Car Company". After they purchased Studebaker In 1954 they became The Studebaker Packard Corporation.

Barnum & Bailey's English winter quarters, for at least one winter were at Stoke on Trent, not London. A former office manager of mine was the great-grand daughter of a B&B Rough Rider, who decided he liked living in England more than travelling with the circus, settled down and married.

My father always drive Packards. When they went out of business he switched to Oldsmobile. He died before Olds went out of business.

The modest Packards are the best. Packard didn't fail. They were absorbed, like many car companies.

Some neat shots of some beautiful cars. But your Presidential history is off. Woodrow Wilson, upon leaving office, bought a Pierce-Arrow limousine from the White House fleet, then received a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost touring car as a birthday gift from friends in 1923. Warren Harding owned a Packard Twin Six, along with a Pierce-Arrow. Calvin Coolidge favored Lincolns. Herbert Hoover might have owned a Packard, but was better known for a V-16 Cadillac. FDR did have a Packard when he was governor of New York, but owing to his disability, preferred lighter, smaller cars for his own driving, Ford and Plymouth convertibles, with hand controls.

This is the second documentary where Henderson motorcycles, were not featured. amazing since their legacy contributed so much to the modern motorcycle? still it was a glorious time to be alive. when these simple forms of transportation. were readily available to the average person.
