Dog Grooming - Double Coated Breeds
Просмотров 1962 года назад
This is a TikTok on why you should not shave or clip your double coated dog such as a golden retriever, Aussie, border collie, or any shedding dog breed. Clipping them short can lead to a whole variety of skin problems as well as coat changes, and will actually cause your dog to shed more!

    I was an independent groomer for 25 years and then worked for a corporate business. I’m not gonna say who. But yes, the rules insane and obviously not made up by a groomer. Unrealistic.

    I’ve been grooming for 10 years and have been with PetSmart for going on 6. I always say I would not be the groomer I am today had I been trained from PetSmart. My years prior to going corporate is what gave me the most knowledge. And at the store I’m at the salon leader holds academies that only last two weeks for dogs. And only two days for cats. It’s been honestly a living hell working there and I am at the point I am going to use up my vacation time and plan my escape from there. It’s weird they are all about safety but do some of the most dangerous things; such as the windows for pet parents to stare at their dogs. Not giving proper restraints for both ends of the dogs. And I just can’t take it anymore.

    Very informative video. I have a 13 1/2 year old Powder Puff that I adopted when he was 9. He has the sweetest temperament of any dog I've ever met. He loves all people and all animals. He gets along with cats and can't be bothered to chase the squirrels in the yard. He rarely barks and never sheds. He loves going for walks. I don't think he was taken very good care of in his younger years. When I got him he was missing a leg and had a heart murmur, and when I got his teeth cleaned by the vet they needed to remove about half of them. He has little seizures often, that are very brief. He's quite deaf, though not 100%. He's definitely getting old, but he has an excellent appetite for food, and for life. I'm retired, so he's my constant companion, always at my side.

      You could try when your puppy is asleep and get inside the cheek where all the saliva pools! If not you could have treats and swab then give a treat but have the treats right there so your puppy sees them! Happy new year!

    Don’t do it as a career. I’m leaving it in 2025. I don’t wanna be 50 with a bad back ,hands , lungs and even ears.the stress and anxiety from getting attacked by so many dogs. Not worth the money all that we do and deal with . Groomers deserve way more. But you may be better off doing it at home . I would love to get into designing and painting . But not working at a private or Corporate job. I’m still thinking about it maybe once a while I’ll do it when I feel like grooming again.

    Great video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. One other tip is to be careful of trimming their nails too short-especially if the nails are black and you can’t see how far their blood veins go. It’s not like other breeds someone might be used to-their feet and toes/fingers are longer compared to other breeds. One more thing: I don’t agree that Chinese Cresteds should pull weights due to their vulnerability to kneecap problems. At least maybe they should wait until they are about two years old and full grown.

    I agree with everything you said but I must say, the way you were talking in this video I expected your grooms to look exceptional. Your grooms don't look much different from groomers that learned to grooms at petsmart. Also it shouldn't take an entire year of bathing before leaning to groom, that's silly. I also think it's silly to train someone to groom but not allow them to use scissors until they've clippered enough dog?

    These are just great explanations from her perspective and honest opinion from the hard end of things. My girlfriend just started Petsmart Academy and her interest led me here watching. Switching from a major corporation one stop shop to a proud private grooming company is exactly like my 15 years of Serving/Bartending experience. Those who are not willing to change or badge new shop policies are extremely difficult to work with. Also coworkers and management may make a huge difference in each individual experience person to person. Loved the conversation in the video though. Every experience is different but glad yours is here.

    Most people don’t get a chance to work private from the start because most private businesses won’t give them a chance. Which leaves people where ? At petsmart or petco. How will that individual be able to grow if no one is giving them a chance? It’s common sense!

    I’ve been working for PS for about 3 years now, 2 as a groomer. Academy is only 2 weeks hands on and 1 week computer work. It’s very frustrating because they want you to crank out grooms as fast as you can. They have me at 3 and 3 in an 8 hour shift, and it’s a STRUGGLE! I feel like I have been set up for failure from the start. My own grooming experience comes from me shaving my own dogs, never having any accidents or injuries to them for the past 16 years prior to PS. I fight every day to try to get them all done on time…. 😮‍💨

  • @HalifaxDarkRecords24

    I just started petco grooming last week, I have six weeks more of pre academy training before I go into academy. I see some flaws, but it's efficient in alot of ways, but some rules makes no sense. It's also never followed. I've heard horror stories about academy but am going to push through because I absolutely want this as my forever career, I don't plan on staying with petco forever. I also can say your opinion is kicking down of rude or more so your take? I know two people making 6 figures + who started at petco and stayed for a majority of their grooming time. But also again, they test different breeds on you before testing out and you learn as you go, just as you would appreciating. We have to test out with 6 dogs and then 3 more afterwards before getting our certificate of completion. Our GM and SLM take it very serious usually

  • @muddywaters538
    @muddywaters538 11 месяцев назад

    The grass is not always greener on the other side. There are a lot of private grooming shops that use crappy products on dogs, it's all about the money 💰 Usually, they have no formal pet grooming skills other than the school of "hard knocks" and they don't like people who have gone to grooming school. I think the best is to do both, try corporate, try private and then open your own shop. A lot of private shops are family run and they only hire others to help them pay the bills, if you're not family they are not interested in teaching you.

    • @gjmarin2004
      @gjmarin2004 5 месяцев назад

      Agreed I mean there was a private company just recently where the man was arrested. A groomer was arrested for kicking a Shih Tzu. He kicked that shit to like about three times because he said the Shih Tzu tried to bite him while he was grooming. So I mean, it’s anywhere you go. There are good people and bad people, and there are skilled people and unskilled people regardless of where you go at least with corporate the people are more likely to be held accountable because they’re held to a different standard because it’s corporate.

    When i was on my search for grooming education, i was origionally going to pay for my education. Well petsmart got back to me and hired me on the spot so i said, Hey! Its worth a shot and who doesnt want free education. Ive been in this company for 5 months, i was about to go to accademy and decided... free isnt everything, so im going back to my schooling for dog grooming. Our accademy has been squeezed into 3 weeks, 3 WEEKS. HOW DO YOU LEARN A WHOLE CAREER IN 3 WEEKS. When i was hired on there was a salon leader, mature staff, a generally good team. It took no time at all to lose all of our geeat staff, our salon leader. Infact all of our strong management are quitting or have one foot out the door. This is not a safe environment to learn in, they push you to take on more then you can handle, when you have decided that a pet isnt going to work out at a petsmart salon, management will not back you up. Theyre only looking for numbers and good reviews.what your looking for in education is not worth breaking your body for. Trust me there are safer ways to manage stress. Yes the 2 year contract is no longer in affect. But ask yourself why, do your research. Theyre is so many abuse in the workplace violations nations wide in both canada and the US. simply put they cant afford anymore lawsuits. The company keeps getting bought out by new management and that management is making it cheaper and cheaper. Im working with someone who has 23 years experience in petsmart. This company isnt what it use to be.

    I 100% agree The first time I saw a comment on some video about how the poor dog was being abused I couldn't even believe it I was in shock I have seven dogs four small and three large My dogs are cleaner and fed better and taken care of better by my hand then some people's children! I just started adding little accents to little ones and dying them and of course I use the dye that is created yeah that's a thing lol for the dogs and my dogs are far from miserable and you shampoo them after you do it so they do not get anything in their mouths they don't do any of that nonsense It's not toxic I'm so grateful I came across your video just to see somebody else say it out loud people just want to comment on everything!
