Everytime I hear this I think about a ex that had a opiate addiction.i remember when I walked into our apartment n found her on the floor od and not responding to anything one of the scariest moments of my life....yes she survived..I hope she's doing well now.
This is my song to my wife. She had a god awful childhood. After whats now 25 years of marriage, its became clear it poisoned her to no end. I don't think she'll ever recover. We're still married and I'll likely be with her until one of our deaths. I tried every combination of words in every emotion i could think of and no amount of talking or therapy has been successful. She is my sleeping beauty. Ive loved APC since the 90s, but it wasn't until recently i made the correlation to this song.
This is simply one of the best songs ever. I would put this CD (yes I am that old!) on in my car and I could never get past this song because I kept hitting "repeat" because I could. Not. Get. Enough of it. And I can't be the only one who has noticed that Maynard is the only person I know of who can write songs that don't rhyme, and they're still amazingly awesome.
He gets his point across in fantastic fashion and his voice has a sleeping beauty but the pain is there. He is a good person to admire and look up to which he would probably deny but once I understood his message about addiction and its harm on creativity. " The trick with drugs is taking it once and spending ten years to get there naturally " not an exact quote but it still with me ten years later.
Awakening cannot be induced by a person for a person. Kundalini rising is a delight and a nightmare. Our shadows refuse to let go and tell us lies through reasoning and denial of the mystical. We are poisoned by the ways of the world, by the concepts of man to try and define what civilized means. We cannot awaken fully until we shed the grasp ego holds all our perceptions with. To overcome we must acknowledge the sleep, we must acknowledge the shadow and embrace that nothing matters. It just doesn't matter.
Irony of this song is the words are exactly what I want to tell my ex of 13 years together. Tool and perfect circle are our favorite bands, never thought I'd end up dedicating this song in the end 😞
Maynard's genius speaks of the everyman's ego that he is the hero every woman needs. He will succeed where all has failed. Not seeing past his own cape/ego. "Don't save her she don't wanna be saved"
I love this song. If I was a princess this would be my prince's song in a tragedy....well,on my gloomy days. I just love how it holds so much passion within the chords. very powerful emotions.
"But you're far too poisoned for me such a fool to think that I could wake you from your slumber, that I could actually heal you..."-------My favorite line in the song; has a special place in my heart.
Absolutely, my wife has tortured and raped, she needlessly to say has Complex PTSD and has flashbacks every day. For a year I spent every day trying to fix her problems only to realize I couldn't fix her myself, needed shrooms to help heal her. Lyrics from the song: "Drunk on ego, truly thought I could make it right if I kissed you one more time to help you face the nightmare, but you're far too poisoned for me, such a fool to think that I could wake you from your slumber, that I could actually heal you" Has a deep meaning to me. I'm not sure if this was a relationship or Maynard's or if it was his mom he loved very much that died from a disease that caused full paralysis when he was young. She didn't get help because of her cult like church that claimed any medical conditions she had must be a punishment from her own sins and it was God's punishment. Think of the song Judith (Marie Judith Keenan) or the songs: Wings for Marie part 1/2 where he talks about her ascending tlanove heaven because she was too pure for this world. This song could apply to so many people's hard situations and suffering in relationships.
@@Bulletz4Breakfast13 It's stories like this that make me more thankful and reminds me how blessed I really am. I know some people who keep faith and seem to have more joy and peace than the most amidst terrible suffering, which is - needless to say - even more amazing.
@kantfail yeah! its weird too if u think that maybe you're the one that has to see something or being awaken (drunk on ego)... life and its misteries... and the art to make us see all the beauty in it... cheers!
Yeah but its so rare to find someone who will actually stick around or stick it out with you. Everyone is so quick to write the relationship off as toxic and unsalvageable so they leave and therefore never get to witness the transformation or the beauty in it... there's no loyalty

This used to be a love song to me but now it’s my song to mankind as a whole..
I view it as men giving up trying to fix women who would rather wallow in their self created misery.
Love you perfect circle.. U are music form of my emotional body...

The bridge in this song captures the emotion so perfectly. Hits my heart strings every time I hear it.

Thats rough, bud. The song does convey the faults of both sides though. If the song fits perfectly, then you are not entirely innocent here.
